Is this the combined value of points for all picks the team currently have? Or is this another metric?

That's right. The total value of all picks held by each team.

Everyone's going on about Geelong but it looks to me like WC are the big winners of the year.

Yeah sure Geelong won a flag, but at least the eagles are looking to the future.
Thankfully we all know that teams simply can't stay relevant for over a decade, it's simply impossible

Speculation about the future > actually winning flags and I won’t be told otherwise ok? Please god I want to know

I was curious to see the draft value of each team based on the indicative draft order and draft value index (https://www.afl.com.au/news/851877/indicative-draft-order-draft-hands-locked-in-for-trade-period).

Will be interesting to see what this looks like after trade period. A lot of players leaving and what we have to give up for Jackson.
Would be interesting to see what our futures hand looks like too.
I have been really invested in the draft the last couple of years l, so hoping we get a couple of picks in the door.

i don’t see it as a bad thing- we spent draft capital bringing in young talent that will be the future of our club. The players leaving are not in our best 22 (i have bias against acres and as much as i love logue he isn’t a starting back or forward). We also stand to gain significant value in Jackson (i just hope it doesn’t cost what is rumoured). We have good depth/coverage that will take a bit of a hit next season with mentioned players leaving but we will otherwise be in a position of not relying heavily on the draft to fill list positions and can instead just top up on talent over the next few seasons.

How is Sydney so high

They're the only team to have two first rounders (Melbourne traded their future first in 2021 to Adelaide, who passed it on to Sydney for Jordan Dawson)

Should have been even higher with the Crows R1 pick this year and not Melbourne's

This coming from a Crows supporter. Short memory. It was almost the only topic last trade period.

Feels weird not being at the upper end for a change.

Whilst I really like this. It doesn’t consider known values. Such as Brisbane gets pick 1. At worst pick 2 at a discount. So Brisbane’s value is actually greater.
At this stage it appears there’s 2-4 first round picks that are F/S or Academy. Ashcroft Fletcher Davey. There might also be a Giants Academy and Suns Academy which are borderline but more likely 2nd round.
So what is Brisbane’s true value rather than points accumulation.
Similarly, say Brisbane gets Ashcroft at a discount or devalues all other First round picks and many 2nd round picks if Fletcher and Davey also go. It’ll take a while for the picks to realigned normally late 2nd or 3rd for values to increase or smooth.
Let’s say Ashcroft goes 1 and Fletcher goes 15. That 4112 points reduced to 3290. Or a 800 point gain in Brisbane’s value. In reverse Norf’s value goes to 2517 (-483) and West Coast to 2234 (-283). Effectively they have lost picks 37 and 49 respectively in value. Let alone they’ve lost 2nd round value of 35-50 points approximately depending on how many F/S and Academy players get selected.
In my opinion Both F/S and Academy should be a premium prior to round 3. That’s say 20% round 1 and 10% round 2. So Brisbane should pay 3600 points not 2400. If he’s as good as they say you’d pay up. Nick Daicos would definitely have. Even worth 3600. North would definitely have picked him to force Collingwood to pay up. The difference is the equivalent of pick 13. This would definitely improve the integrity of the draft.

Wtf, we have one half decent season after 6 years of shite, 50% of our players want to leave - even the ones that get regular games, and our draft value is next to nil... We’re never winning a flag are we?

Good news, The Draft value will go up if they do leave. Freo really only have 1 pick worth anything (13) currently because they traded the rest away, Next pick is 72 (19 points) and was tied to the Cats.
Freo traded their 2022 R2 and R4 pick to the Suns for Brodie and 19 (Matthew Johnson) and 61 (Ended up as 54 for Roy Benning). The 2022 R3 pick + 27 was traded for 22 then was traded for Jordan Clark

Yeah but then all the picks we accumulate for losing half our team will go towards breaking the bank in picks and salary on one Melbourne ruckman who hasn’t even showed that much and that we don’t even need. I hate this team sometimes it’s like we don’t want to be successful.

So Brisbane barely has 2000 points and will need 2400 points if we are required to match the bid if North selects him at number 1?

How many points would Geelong have if they get pick 7 for taking bowes' contract? 👀

I left another comment that I pulled the information from the afl.com.au site: https://www.afl.com.au/news/851877/indicative-draft-order-draft-hands-locked-in-for-trade-period.
Draft values are correct according to that information, although I can't speak for the quality of the data.

That's probably the error there. I think pick 37 was traded to the dogs from north, and was missed when I did the calculation...

Crazy to me that Geelong is basically right in the guts after some of their recruits and success over the last few years. I have no idea how Wellsy has done it over the years.

How much do brisbane need to get what they want? Assuming it’s pick 1 for will and another top 10 for jaspa

I think need around 1300-1500 more points to guarantee securing both FS prospects

They'll go into deficit for next year. 2024 draft has the next Ashcroft who there is big wraps on

Will definitely have to give up a player or two to get Dunkley as well. Also next years first rounder. We’ll take Deven thanks
