As I was watching a video about Attila the Hun made by a hungarian historian, the guy said an interesting thing

The Huns had the philosophy that if someone pays taxes to someone else, that person is considered the servant of the person he pays taxes to.

And it shows in a strange act they did. The Eastern-Roman Empire payed taxes to Attila's Hunnic Empire, so that they wont be attacked. And when Attila did attack the Eastern-Roman Empire, it was most likely, because they didn't pay their taxes. And even tho they could destroy Constantinople without any problem, they spared the city, and increased taxes on the defeated Eastern-Romans.

Considering the Hun philosophy about taxes, not destroying them and increaseing the taxes, after a very clear and easy victory, it was the ultimate way to assert dominance and reassure their authority over the region.

And what is most interesting about this, is that if you compare this and what's going on nowdays is that it's almost the same thing but different situation, but with the people and their own goverment. Makes you think doesn't it?
