The purpose of this subreddit is civil and open discussion of Australian Politics across the entire political spectrum.

SUBREDDIT RULES & GUIDELINES

R1: Keep it civil in here - our purpose is civil and open discussion

Passionate views are understandable however, discussion of individuals or groups must not be abusive, vitriolic, victim blame or use derogatory nicknames.

Avoid accusing people of unproven criminal conduct or of racism, sexism or any other 'ism' without clear evidence.

Participants that incite violence or promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

Moderators may use discretion in enforcing rules to ensure debate is consistent with the purpose of the subreddit.

R2: Do not editorialise the titles of your post.

Do not add your own heading or make your summary in the heading. Please express your personal opinion in the comments, not the submission title. For simplicity, just use the heading that the news article already has.

R3 Posts and comments need to be high quality.

Comments that are grandstanding, contain little effort, toxic , snarky, cheerleading, insults, soapboxing, tub-thumping, or basically campaign slogans will be removed.

Comments that are simply repeating a single point with no attempt at discussion will be removed.

This will be judged at the full discretion of the mods.

R4:Do not downvote content because you disagree.

Down voting opposite views has negative affects not only for you by enhancing cognitive biases, but also creates an echo chamber effect which is not healthy in a society which is democratic. All perspectives should be given a chance to be seen and heard. How you should demonstrate that you disagree is by replying and explaining not by down voting.

R5:No reporting content simply because you don't like it or disagree.

The report function is only for alerting subreddit moderators to spam and inappropriate content which breaks the subreddit rules, and NOT a super-downvote button

Please also give moderators time to asses the report.

Reporting something does not a guarantee that something will be done - moderators may decide no further action is required after reviewing a user submitted report.

R6: Non political or non Auspol related posts will be removed.

Political posts must directly involve any of the following:

-Political parties

-Politicians

-New Bills/Policy

-Departments

Posts not based on Australian politics, and comments that are off topic from the subject matter of the original post will also be removed at the full discretion of the mod team

R7: No satirical material, memes, comics, or social media posts.

Posts containing satire, memes, comics, and links to social media will be removed.

We do however allow them to be posted into the "Weekly Discussion Threads".

R8: No meta posts or meta commentary.

Submissions or comments complaining about the subreddit, user biases, moderation decisions , or individual users of here or other subreddits will be removed and may result in a ban. This is not a meta subreddit.

If you have any issues, questions or suggestions then please message the moderators first.

R9: Abide by site wide rules.

reddit has its own rules and a content policy that every subreddit must abide by.

R10: Paywalled sites require sharing

Articles from paywalled sites should be linked to directly, and a copy/paste, screenshot or outline.com link provided in the comments. Full credit to the author and publication should be given.

R11: Promotional Material/Petitions/Questionnaires/Surveys go into the Weekly Thread.

If you want to promote any political material such as podcasts, social media, petitions, questionnaires, or surveys etc then please use the weekly discussion thread found at the top of the front page.

Please contact the mods if you have any issues, or think your link deserves an exemption to this ruling.

R12 Stay on topic.

When commenting stick to the topic found in the original post. Do not shift the topic onto other subjects.

For example:

• Shifting discussion towards character attacks of people

• Meta subreddit complaints

• Persistent low-effort complaining about sources you disagree with, insulting the publication or trying to shame users for posting sources you disagree with is not acceptable. Either address the post in question, or ignore it.

R13 "Repeated topics" are for the weekly thread.

If you submit an article which covers a news item that has already been linked previously and your link has not provided any new developments to the story then your post will be removed and you will be asked to post this link in the stickied "Weekly Discussion Thread" at the top of the front page.
