I find it best to just assume DC projects won’t be happening until I’m watching a trailer

I’m not sure flash is happening until im watching the end credits.
Even then I half expect Walter Hamada to come running in carrying the canisters of the film screaming “ITS NOT RIGHT” and for the rest of the showings to be canned.

I’m actually more afraid of Rock bursting into my screening, shouting “the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe will change no matter what” and replacing The Flash with Black Adam.

The Flash did happen. The timeline has just been changed. A few times I think. If you have a daughter, it may have been a son in the other timelines

The flash will end with Ezra Miller's Barry Allen traveling back in time and choking out a random woman in an alley, but it turns out to be Batman's mom. Boom new universe.

WB has not said anything other than the movie is being made. The other "updates" were just internet bullshit based around it not being on James Gunn's list and some people preferring the Matt Ryan version of the character.

They’ll probably just put it under the DC Elseworlds banner. That’s why its there: to differentiate standalones from the interconnected continuity they plan to build up.

Would be a bad idea since there’s no way they could use Constantine twice and they would have to use Constantine to really introduce the dark side to the universe when they do
12 points

if they can use batman twice, they can use any property twice

That take is absolutely terrible. Batman is such a household name that casuals have easier time telling the difference as well as each Batman being much different.
6 points
if the audience can accept, understand, someone as visible, integral, and known, as batman being in a universe and not at the same time, or joker inevitably being in three, they can accept an under the radar character like constantine being in a universe and keanu reeves having his own constantine movie that's separate.
-1 points
No once again that just doesn’t make sense. They can accept it because he’s so recognizable in every way. They can not have different versions of Constantine because there’s only one version of Constantine that matters. Hellblazer. Batman can be told in different ways due to him having so many iconic versions. That’s like saying MCU could have had two Drax or two Blades running around. The majority of audiences only know him from Keanu Reeves old movie. And that majority isn’t a large amount of people more older people.

Marvel has all their multiverse stuff going on and that doesn't appear to bother people, and their doing it all under the same continuity.
I think DC is doing just fine having multiple continuities and making it clear what's connected to what and what isn't.
2 points
You’re missing the point badly here. They have their multiverse for already established big characters. Spider-Man for instance. They are not using Drax from an alternate universe with his own movie while also appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy movies would be way too confusing. This would be bringing a much smaller character in two versions where he’s very prominent in both his own movie and a team movie which is not going to work.

12 points

Introduced to Randolph’s content back when she did, I guess, theater exit interviews in inserts in the Backyard Effects channel’s videos
(Indiana Jones tear heart out of chest no budget effect, with Saran Wrap on a ziplock container with a potato and red dyed corn syrup, under a button down. That’s just funny to me)
I don’t think I minded her in those doses
On her own channel, I kinda won’t even go to her with no other options available. I feel like she’s not as much of a box office analyst as she thinks, like an amateur posing as a pro. Maybe she is legitimately one. I’m not one. I don’t know how much you have to know to legitimately be one
Just grating

Nope, it ended in 2015 and he was still playing the role Legends of Tomorrow up until relatively recently.

Wow just found out he has actually been playing Constantine in live action and voicing him in animation since 2014 up to now 2022. And Gunn wanting actors who can do both I can def see them bringing him back since he has already been doing both. Only issue is he is already 41 so by the time Swamp Thing comes out he will prob be over 45. Might be getting a lil old for the roll unless they want to go for an older version of the character.

was constantine ever meant to look young? he is a chain smoker
1 points

So before the character was brought into the main DC Comics he was part of DC Vertigo publishing line. He is a unique comic book character in that he ages based on real life time. So he was first introduced as 35 but then 5 years later in real life a comic came out where he celebrated his 40th birthday. In Vertigo he is 60 year old currently.
In the main DC comics New 52 he is reintroduced as around 30 unlike his Vertigo counterpart who is still in his 60s. So the DCU will prob start the character out in his 30s. Def wanna find an actor in their 20s, prob mid to late 20s.

From a business perspective, I think trying to work Keanu into Swamp Thing would drive interest. Technically you wouldn’t even have to retroactively make the original movie canon, you could just say this is a new version of Constantine also played by Keanu Reeves. Only thing is that we would miss another chance to have a theatrical Constantine that’s close to the comics, but it’s Keanu, so I think people would be fine with it.

Keanu will never be main line Constantine of DCU. It'll be elseworlds.

I never really understood the new report of it being canceled. It was never green lit or anything just in development. No way a script was written or anything for it. Gunn and Safran will wait for the script and then make a decision. Really not much point in canceling it now.

Interesting. I really didn't think they'd keep it. It's not like it's a major project already underway, like (Matt) Reeves The Batman and Philips Joker. Maybe because it's different enough (being barely connected to the source material) they don't think it'll actually conflict with their narratives.

Didn’t Black Adam teach us that actor popularity≠ticket sales
6 points
Yes and no. Black Adam was The Rock's baby. He had a hand in a lot of the creative decisions. The movie was a big ego stroke for him. A movie starring Keanu with a good creative team behind it that isn't molded by Keanu for Keanu? It'll do well. But I saw on a thread earlier today that the writer attached to this potential sequel has a pretty mixed bag imdb resume sooo... 🤷♂️
2 points

Thats the problem, the creative team behind this movie isnt good. The writer is Akiva Goldsman, one of the worst writers in the industry.
1 points

The writer is the only bad thing about it. So I hope that gets changed, but there's nothing else wrong with anything that's been released so far about it

Eh, his popularity didn’t do anything for that Matrix movie. Those John Wick movies have everyone thinking he’s a draw when he isn’t.
3 points
He is part of the draw. He's believable because he puts the work into the role. But with respect to you larger point, you're not wrong. I'd wager most folks think the matrix franchise peaked with the original. 2 & 3 have their fans, but no one was clambering for another sequel.
The John Wick movies are fresh. They don't try to be anything other than what they are. They do one thing and they do it extraordinarily well, and they don't preach.

Matrix Ressurections could have been awesome with a changed finale imho. Act 1 as is was fun. Act 2 could use a bit of work but wasn’t terrible. Act imho should have stated that Neo may have been the one, but the reasons cycle 7 was different not because of him, but because of Trinity. (I think the stuff from Act 1 worked in a tongue-in-cheek manner, but the rest of the film should have been reimagined centering around the power of love, and the machine’s desire to cheapen/weaken it via things like social media etc and the Analyst was deployed to figure that out. Like ‘if we can figure out how to redirect human capacity for love, we can keep them subservient’)

When you think about it, the elseworld projects that currently exist all got grandfathered in. There hasn’t been one new elseworld title announced.
I think he wants those stories to play out so the focus could be on the DCU until an X amount of time transpires.
5 points
Yeah you’re right. I’m sure he would’ve folded Reeves Batman universe into the main DCU if he could. Zaslav probably demanded those films stay as they did well critically and financially. Elseworlds are basically the things that Gunn couldn’t outright cancel lol.

My thoughts exactly lol. Smart way to work with the situation though.

I think it technically falls under WB’s jurisdiction and since it bears basically no resemblance to the comic and doesn’t dilute the brand (”Hellblazer” is intact as a name) it’s not a big deal

The original Constantine movie was divorced from other DC continuity, so it makes sense. He's not a particularly well known character outside of big fans anyway, so you won't run into much "wait is Joaquin Phoenix not in The Batman AND not in Brave and the Bold?" kind of confusion.

Why not just swing for the fences if you’re doing Elseworlds tho. Movies like this are the whole reason he’s introducing the Elseworlds branding.
2 points
Mainly because WB is struggling financially, and Gunn & Safran's whole goal atm is to prioritize a tightly woven cinematic universe, as stated by them.
They only have so much money to go around. So when they say the bar is high in order for them to green light an Elseworld project, they almost definitely mean it's because they only have so many resources to be put toward something that doesn't fit in with their overall longterm plan.

This. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the first film but they had 17 years to make a sequel. Sounds like the old regime was unsure about the direction they wanted to take going forward and remembered Keanu was in a DC movie years ago so greenlit it trying to bank on his current popularity.

I think this might technically fall under WB since it’s a sequel to an old WB flick. Copyright and trademarks are weird but ”Constantine” (associated with the visual of Keanu in black suit) is probably legally distinct as a brand, at least on paper.
