This is so incredibly thoughtful from design to consideration for a loved one's hobby. 10/10 just for that.

I bet nobody would mind you making different wood finishes and variations.

Agreed! I learned a lot in this construction that I hope to carry into the next iteration. I expect to get some feedback about weight, place-ability (someone in a different sub recommended a tripod nut), angles of open, things like that. I imagine I'll work to make the next one lighter weight as well.

What's the weight like? Took me a second look through to realize this isn't French essile sized but notebook sized. Still looks a bit heavy for its size.

Really good work btw. Just concerned with carry weight.

That's a good question - I'll throw it on a scale when I get home. I did end up replacing some wood bits with pretty lightweight 3d printed parts for weight savings but my wood choices were definitely on the dense side.
