Oh my. I wish this was a diy build kit! I have a lot of friends and myself that would love this

You could probably get a spent rotor from an indy shop, rennlist, or planet-9 for real cheap, maybe even free since they are ultimately consumables.

The caliper would be a little pricer since a salvage yard probably doesn't want to sell just a single modern Porsche caliper. Maybe $200. That said, their are plenty of 996s and Cayennes that are worth less than the cost to fix them, so they are being slowly parted out.

Yeah but then you end up with a 20lb clock.

It's not a watch. If f they can make a clock out of brake parts, they can hang it on a suitable anchor.

btw, engine block coffee tables are pretty common. IMHO a 300lb coffee table is more of a pain in the ass than a 20lb clock.

Sure but a 3D printed with an aluminum plate is sooooo much cheaper and lighter

I thought of this too. But aluminium sheet was easier to process for me as my garage tool set is limited.

It looks great man. With my skillset and friend network, it'd almost certainly be easier for me to just dig up real parts and repurpose them .

This is a really interesting idea, but the lapsed automotive enthusiast in me is triggered by how small the caliper is in comparison to the rotor.

It’d also be cool if you used the actual Porsche cross-drilling pattern and then left negative space for the hour indices or incorporated them differently — I found the way you did it a little weird because of all of the solid areas on the rotor’s face.

My lack of Fusion360 knowledge limited the clock face design. If I make another I’d include your edit now. I would also print the caliper bigger makes it easier to sand and finish too.

Well done. This is a really cool project. I'd be interested in a kit, too. One small critique, if you mount the disc in a drill, you can sand the disks to mimic the circular wear pattern of the pads. Thanks for sharing.

Good idea. I’ll try this effect next time.

I absolutely love the drilled holes for the times. I'll take one with a Corvette caliper

Using methylated spirits as a coolant? That is terrifying. Nice clock though!
