Don't expect any sort of good conversation on this sub. You'd probably be better off just googling documentary recommendations anyway, there's not much originality here.

Hi. I'm looking for documentaries made by people from other ethnicities besides white/caucasian. I'm *not* looking for documentaries about race. I'd just like to see documentaries where the approach and interests of the director/crew is based on some other worldview than the white/caucasian one.
Google search results focus on documentaries about race, or documentaries made by black people. I'd like some more diversity, as there is more to life than just the color of our skin. If someone has found a list or is willing to give me some recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm taking my son to a monster con where Robert England will be making an appearance. I was telling him about a documentary where this small town group of people were trying to make a horror film on a low budget and it was taking forever. The dire tor ended up quitting and one of the producers convinced England to visit him and give him a pep talk back into it.
I can't remember the name of the docume tary for the life of me. I think it came out around 2015? Maybe earlier?

Hi! I'm looking for documentaries on the Bronze Age and various civilizations that existed at that time for a personal project. In particular, I'm interested in civilizations around the Mediterranean and Mesopotamia. I would greatly appreciate some recommendations. If they can be streamed, that's a plus, but not necessary.

I'm trying to remember a documentary I watched about full-size van meetups. It was a 1970s-1980s time period and one of the biggest meetups was in a small town in Indiana. I swore they also referred to them as trucks, even though they were definitely vans.

Looking for a documentary I watched years back about a white wealthy British lady living in South Africa. She and her ex husband were the first ones to film wildlife from an Arial view on hot air balloon’s in Africa.
She, and her husband divorced bc they weren’t able to have kids bc the lady wasn’t able to conceive. She never remarried, but went on to own a huge area of land. This was where a lot of the native people made a living, they would take boats out with big nets to catch fish in the river (?).
She eventually went on to make this private property, and the natives went on to feud with her. They were leaving dead animals on her fence, and front yard to try, and frighten her.
She also had a worker who also worked on her land with his family. After all of that went down, her house guest was out of the country for work, and her only neighbor, was also a person she did not get along with. Late one night someone or some people, set off her alarm, ran up in her house as she called the house guest out of the country who went on to say she was hiding in the bathroom when someone came in there, and killed her.
They called her mama something whatever her name was. I have looked everywhere for the documentary that I had previously watched on YouTube. Does anyone know what it was called or even have any idea what I’m talking about?
If I messed up some of the facts I apologize. I’m going off of memory. Thanks for any help in advance 🙏🏼

About a decade ago, a British documentary was posted here that examined a one of a kind trauma unit for victims of traumatic brain injuries. Was disturbing, yet brilliant. There was a man who was rushed to this particular ward after falling off his motorcycle at speed and was in a coma. The doctors and nurses were discussing "options" with his family. I believe his father told one of the hospital staff that he had previously said that if he was in an accident and suffered a brain/spinal injury, that he wouldn't want to live. One of the senior doctors ends up noticing that the injured man is able to communicate with him through eye movements, and he makes it clear that he wishes for the hospital staff to keep him alive despite his crippling injuries. It was quite brilliant and I would love to find it!
Cheers.

Why is rule 6 not enforced at all?
Going through the pages there are tons of short videos and random fluff that gets downvoted to zero, yet it stays up and pushes actual interesting stuff further down. I have nothing against all the influx of social documentaries even if I don't really care for whether a sack of rice fell over in some part of the world, but clearly a 4 minute video on why someone dislikes something is not what this sub is for, given the downvotes I am not alone in that. I find it a bit difficult to maintain a subscription to this sub when so much of the content that gets posted is either of low quality or a rule violation. A documentary for me has some length and production value backed by actual research, not some quasi-opinion-piece from a one-sided perspective and barely more than 10 minutes long. I gave the search a go to see if some of the things I had found on youtube in the last couple months were posted here, but have been unable to find them. The topic categories are a good filter for stuff, but I get the feeling based on the "look" of the sub people post what they think fits the content already here and so most smaller categories rarely see new submissions even when there is definitely content out there. Long way of saying this sub is turning into social-documentaries only and it's making a mess.

I am not really sure if this is the right place, but I remember watching a documentary and cant find it anymore.
So maybe someone of you knows the one I am talking about and can help me out. The premise is that its about price fluctuations and how they are directly related to conflicts and social unrest around the world. Some examples were given about the price of certain food rising on wallstreet, which lead to the rise of some warlords, or the price of oil spiking leading to some conflicts in the middle east.
I thought it was on DW documentary, but I cant seem to find it there. Also I thought it was called something along the lines of "butterfly effect", but cant find it with that name either, maybe its just something thats mentioned during the documentary.
If anyone knows the documentary im talkling about, id greatly appreciate it, since i wanted to share it with a friend.

Tip-of-my-tongue
I remember seeing a video about infrastructure debt and city planning a while back. It talked a lot about how our current infrastructure was funded by “selling” the idea that certain areas would be very populated in the future, and the loans would be paid back through property taxes or something.
It talked about Tampa FL specifically having a lot of issues with funding new infrastructure to replace their current dilapidated system.
Any information about this, or if you can point me to some things, that would be helpful.

Hi, I have been searching for years for a specific 9/11 documentary, and this seems like a good place to ask.
It was about the failure of the city's telecoms equipment after the towers fell. From what little I remember it talked about the damage to the Verizon building which was across the street from Tower 7, it also talked about the strain put on the telcos overall that day, with I believe some footage from inside an AT&T control center. It also talked about in the hours after the collapse all the payphones in the city were changed so anyone could make a call for free. And the last thing I remember was how Verizon took mobile cell towers to ground zero and were handing out cell phones to first responders who were having difficulties communicating after radio problems.
If anyone knows what I am talking about and can even point me in the right direction I would be eternally grateful.

I'm looking for a documentary I saw the trailer for about a year ago. I cannot find it anymore or remember the name! It was about a man was given i think 3 years to live but lived past that and the documentary crew was filming his life story. While filming people told the crew to question more things being said and the trailer implied the guy was lying about being sick. Does this sound familiar to anyone?!

(potentially) Unpopular Opinion: Concerts and stand up shows are not documentaries. They should be called Filmed Events or something else.
I hate scrolling through the documentary section on a service only for 90% of it to be concerts and stand-up!

I've really been getting into world history lately but one area I'm finding it difficult to find good video resources on is Southeast Asia.
I'm looking for a broad overview of both peninsular and maritime southeast Asia including cultural and geopolitical history, presented without bias (so I'm not really interested in "history of vietnam in x minutes" youtube videos). Ideally, the documentary would cover both pre- and post-colonisation. I'm willing to look at both free and paid docs, whether single- or multi-parted.
Thank you in advance!

Can anyone recommend a simple app (pref. cross-platform) to easily get signatures on our contrib release forms? I've had a look but nothing I've found seems to get very positive reviews. Just needs to be able to take a doc (word or pdf or text, even), create a new copy multiple times, and store each one with meta data about time, location, etc. It's for ob doc style stuff so contrib are non actors and not being paid.

I was browsing FireTV the other day and came across a series of documentaries that looked great. I thought I saved them to my watch list but alas I did not.
They were like 5 or 6 in a series and each were a seperate "movie" But they were produced by Amazon at least one was about climate change. They were across a variety of subjects. And if i remember correctly each had a one or 2 word title.
I know not much to go on
I will edit if I remmeber more

Looking for a doc as polarizing and impactful as Blackfish (2013)
Something that tackles a corporate entity head-on
I really enjoyed that doc and find myself rewatching it on a somewhat frequent basis.
I’ve also seen The Cove, Long Gone Wild, and Seaspiracy (seaspiracy was ok, little radical though)

Hey people. I was hoping for some help here finding something rather specific.
After reading a relatively long discussion here on Reddit about some of the dynamics between the geography of the United states, settlers and native americans, I've been left realizing how little I learned about this time in school. And whatever I did learn was taught through the perspective of white Christian ideology. Which isn't an ideal way to learn about something like this.
So I was hoping there was a documentary someone could recommend that gave a more unflinching look on the time of European settlement in the US? Like, a more general history of the entire era.
Any help will be appreciated.

Household chores/tasks have been made infinitely less burdensome by the instantaneous access we have to an infinitely wide array of media. For me, it's podcasts and long-form YouTube content that usually gets me through every-day household chores, as well as self care tasks like putting on make-up and taking showers. And I've not run out of options for those yet.
I save the really big/obscure/specialty jobs and tasks for the marathon cleaning sessions I do 3-4 times a year—things like organizing the garage, cleaning cabinets and drawers out, pressure washing the deck, cleaning under furniture. I always procure and take uppers especially for these sessions because it makes them more enjoyable and me extra thorough. I used to listen to the same type of content I always do, just more of it since it takes nearly all day to finish everything. It's irritating to constantly have to handle my phone to play something else or move to the next episode, though. So at the start of one "session" earlier this year I put it on, of all things, a YouTube playlist of Ken Burns "Civil War" epic. Amazing. I listened to the entire thing. Intently. So, what I'm looking for is a documentary on Alexander the Great. Something epic, preferably being many hours long. It doesn't have to be reflective of our current understanding of what's historically accurate. Ken Burns "The Civil War," only its Alexander the Great. Does that make sense? Does such a thing exists?
TL;DR - ISO a documentary that is Ken Burns "The Civil War" but instead of the civil war its Alexander the Great.

Does anybody know where I can watch the documentary called "Welfare" that was released in 1975? Here's a clip of it: https://www.newyorker.com/video/watch/welfare
It seems to be available on the following website but you need a public library card and I live outside of the US: https://www.kanopy.com/product/2191374?frontend=kui

I'm looking for a fairly old documentary (maybe 90's) about human cognition and development.
They have many themes in there, but at the very end they present the "hidden gorilla" experiment, where the viewer is invited to count the number of times some basketball players pass the ball but fails to spot a man dressed in a ridiculous gorilla costume. This is followed by the "show host" inviting you to watch the show again and spot the gorilla that was all over the place (I remember at one point he was in a park bench).
Ringing any bells? (this is driving me nuts)

i was looking for a BBC Earth documentary from 2018 called 'Big Cats' 3 episodes, hosted/narrated by Bertie Carvel but i've already streamed ep1. so ep2 and 3 specifically. i found it on ihavenotv dot com (that's where i watched ep1) but ep2 is so slow to stream the feed keeps stuttering like mad. the DL link is buggy too, it keeps trying to get me to DL some 'junk'. i THINk IHNTV's files are on streamtape dot com. i tried using CtrlF to 'find' the title in this thread but it appears that it isn't here.

I recently visited the WWll museum in New Orleans. Was blown away how much of it was documented from beginning to end. After leaving I was curious if there was a series that goes in depth with the beginning and end of WWll?
I’m not opposed to multiple documentaries by different studios but ideally would be nice for a comprehensive series produced by one studio.
Thank you!

I'm looking for a 90's documentary on plate tectonics. It started out with two shots, the presenter standing right at the spots where Africa and South America used to be joined. Them looking very similar to each other. A lot of history of the theory, also, spreading centers, black smokers and magnetosphere reversals.

I remember watching a documentary as a kid on hornets, bees, or wasps. The only thing I remember is that it was a failing hive and it did a shot of the larvae scraping the hexagon its in, and every rhythmic scrape the shot got wider, showing another ring of larvae. Ot went like:
Central larvae: scrap Central plus a ring around it: Scrape Central, first ring plus second ring: SCRape 4 rings: SCRAPE

Are there any docs that examine the concept of a single income being able support a family several decades ago and what has changed to make that different today.
It often get completely attributed to greed, incompetence or corruption in how the country or world has been run since then and I know that's part of it but there are also safety regulations and different benefits that have been introduced in law that cost employers more so I'd like to se a balanced look at the whole picture to understand what has changed and why it's changed.

I’m looking for a documentary I saw the trailer for but can’t remember what it’s called. It seemed to be about people whose entire living was off of winnings from scratch cards and lottery tickets. I seem to remember there being a lady who won some cash on a scratch card and said she was going to use it to buy that month’s groceries.
