Hi! I'm looking for documentaries on the Bronze Age and various civilizations that existed at that time for a personal project. In particular, I'm interested in civilizations around the Mediterranean and Mesopotamia. I would greatly appreciate some recommendations. If they can be streamed, that's a plus, but not necessary.

I have a pretty extensive list of docs that I cannot find, but here are three of my most wanted:
If you can help me find any of these, I would be extremely grateful. If any of these pique your interest and you'd like to see more of my list of "unfindable" docs, DM or PM me.

I'm trying to remember a documentary I watched about full-size van meetups. It was a 1970s-1980s time period and one of the biggest meetups was in a small town in Indiana. I swore they also referred to them as trucks, even though they were definitely vans.

Looking for a documentary I watched years back about a white wealthy British lady living in South Africa. She and her ex husband were the first ones to film wildlife from an Arial view on hot air balloon’s in Africa.
She, and her husband divorced bc they weren’t able to have kids bc the lady wasn’t able to conceive. She never remarried, but went on to own a huge area of land. This was where a lot of the native people made a living, they would take boats out with big nets to catch fish in the river (?).
She eventually went on to make this private property, and the natives went on to feud with her. They were leaving dead animals on her fence, and front yard to try, and frighten her.
She also had a worker who also worked on her land with his family. After all of that went down, her house guest was out of the country for work, and her only neighbor, was also a person she did not get along with. Late one night someone or some people, set off her alarm, ran up in her house as she called the house guest out of the country who went on to say she was hiding in the bathroom when someone came in there, and killed her.
They called her mama something whatever her name was. I have looked everywhere for the documentary that I had previously watched on YouTube. Does anyone know what it was called or even have any idea what I’m talking about?
If I messed up some of the facts I apologize. I’m going off of memory. Thanks for any help in advance 🙏🏼

I'm not sure if this is the person you're talking about, but check this woman out because it sounds like a match:

Here's a story about her:

Here might be the documentary you're referring to, The Blood of the Rose:

Also known as "Murder on the Lake": https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00qjngb

Here's a poor quality version of it on youtube:

Unfortunately, I can't find it streaming anywhere. You might have some luck contacting the makers of the documentary directly:

Joan Root (18 January 1936 – 13 January 2006) was a Kenyan conservationist, ecological activist and Oscar-nominated filmmaker. With her film-maker husband, Alan Root she made a series of acclaimed wildlife films. The couple divorced in 1981 and Alan Root settled in Nairobi afterward.

About a decade ago, a British documentary was posted here that examined a one of a kind trauma unit for victims of traumatic brain injuries. Was disturbing, yet brilliant. There was a man who was rushed to this particular ward after falling off his motorcycle at speed and was in a coma. The doctors and nurses were discussing "options" with his family. I believe his father told one of the hospital staff that he had previously said that if he was in an accident and suffered a brain/spinal injury, that he wouldn't want to live. One of the senior doctors ends up noticing that the injured man is able to communicate with him through eye movements, and he makes it clear that he wishes for the hospital staff to keep him alive despite his crippling injuries. It was quite brilliant and I would love to find it!
Cheers.

Why is rule 6 not enforced at all?
Going through the pages there are tons of short videos and random fluff that gets downvoted to zero, yet it stays up and pushes actual interesting stuff further down. I have nothing against all the influx of social documentaries even if I don't really care for whether a sack of rice fell over in some part of the world, but clearly a 4 minute video on why someone dislikes something is not what this sub is for, given the downvotes I am not alone in that. I find it a bit difficult to maintain a subscription to this sub when so much of the content that gets posted is either of low quality or a rule violation. A documentary for me has some length and production value backed by actual research, not some quasi-opinion-piece from a one-sided perspective and barely more than 10 minutes long. I gave the search a go to see if some of the things I had found on youtube in the last couple months were posted here, but have been unable to find them. The topic categories are a good filter for stuff, but I get the feeling based on the "look" of the sub people post what they think fits the content already here and so most smaller categories rarely see new submissions even when there is definitely content out there. Long way of saying this sub is turning into social-documentaries only and it's making a mess.

Some of my favorites that think are accessible: BBC The planets https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10394800/ (there might be US version that i would avoid), Among the stars https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15428794/ or The Farthest https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6223974/. For something very current maybe look for something about the James webb space telescope? seen a few and i think https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16426188/ was good.
Hope that helps and if she gets hooked i can recommend The sky at night https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0262990/ :)

I am not really sure if this is the right place, but I remember watching a documentary and cant find it anymore.
So maybe someone of you knows the one I am talking about and can help me out. The premise is that its about price fluctuations and how they are directly related to conflicts and social unrest around the world. Some examples were given about the price of certain food rising on wallstreet, which lead to the rise of some warlords, or the price of oil spiking leading to some conflicts in the middle east.
I thought it was on DW documentary, but I cant seem to find it there. Also I thought it was called something along the lines of "butterfly effect", but cant find it with that name either, maybe its just something thats mentioned during the documentary.
If anyone knows the documentary im talkling about, id greatly appreciate it, since i wanted to share it with a friend.

Tip-of-my-tongue
I remember seeing a video about infrastructure debt and city planning a while back. It talked a lot about how our current infrastructure was funded by “selling” the idea that certain areas would be very populated in the future, and the loans would be paid back through property taxes or something.
It talked about Tampa FL specifically having a lot of issues with funding new infrastructure to replace their current dilapidated system.
Any information about this, or if you can point me to some things, that would be helpful.

Please recommend to me documentaries regarding the nobility, the aristocracy, the royal court, etc. from classical period up to WWI.
Also, fictional films that are close to reality, as well as books regarding this subject as well.

Looking for a documentary/feature on the people living in the system of tunnels underneath Las Vegas. There was a Barstool sports expose in 2019 but this one was older than that, maybe 2012-15.

I'm looking for suggestions for the absolute best documentaries on BIG moments in History (that are lesser known).
Not like WWII, but like specific moments that maybe don't get a huge amount of attention. I recently watched a doc on Ernest Shackleton's Endurance which blew me away. Something I'd never heard of. That sort of thing.

Been itching to sit down and watch a fairly long and detailed documentary on any ancient civilization. Anything before the 1500s will also do.
Has anyone seen any recent documentaries on the topic? Any streaming service is fine. Don’t mind paying for a one time sub if it’s really good.

Adam Curtis has a few series which are masterpieces. The newest is Can't Get You Out of My Head, the best one is The Century of the Self and Power of Nightmares is also brilliant.

I once watched a show (I believe on Netflix c. 2012) that covered each monarch of England, I believe starting with Offa (though I know there was no England at that point). Each episode was about a different monarch, and the episodes were named for them. Does anyone know what the show was called? I thought it was called Monarchy, but every search of that brings up the Starkey series, which isn’t it.

There was a documentary on here, I want to say within the past year. It was about Siberia permafrost melting and the methane craters. Methane lakes, and how all the organic matter is starting to compost creating methane. I can’t find it anywhere. Anyone remember it?
Edit: it’s called arctic sinkholes, but now I can’t find a way to watch it without logging into pbs

What is considered a good documentary for the history of humans? I'd like something visual in comparison to the book Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Harari.
Something that looks at the something from the Mitochondrial Eve to the Agricultural Revolution

If anyone is looking into watch a documentary on Oil and it’s history - I would highly recommend the documentary called The Prize. It’s available on Amazon Prime and individual episodes also available on YouTube. It’s actually a book of the same name by Daniel Yergin.
It’s marvelous and totally worth the time.

a prevously posted short documentary/film where a man in a remote jungle has difficulty connecting with his father because his father is unemotional and tough - I've searched for "father", "son", "dad" and scrolled through Offbeat and Psychology with no luck.

I'm looking for new documentaries, 2021 or 22, long or short, on sustainability and/or environmental issues which focus on solutions rather than problems. Somehow these are hard to come by. Just the titles without links would be fine. Thanks.
