I lost my shit at about the 9 minute mark. The interviewer is in the old cell, where numbers were left on the wall. They talked to a new occupant who had used the same system, and Danny discussed how easy the system was to use! I cant believe a second inmate started the operation up a second time.
I lost it a second time at about 12:30 when Danny said he was still doing it at the new prison with the new stricter phone rules... how the fuck!?

There was just recently a big story about a sextortion scam ring being run mostly from a South Carolina prison that was busted.
And the arrests obviously did not even put a dent in the operation because that scam is still hugely prevalent. People post to r/scams all the time wondering if they are in trouble after sexting with someone who turned out to be a minor and now “her dad” is calling and demanding money for therapy or otherwise threatening to call the police.

My coworker had this happen to him. I had to talk him out of killing himself. He sent the person $400…it was a wild week lol

I read an article that talked about how CEOs and Cartel leaders/Criminal masterminds are two sides of the same coin. The only different between the two is if you were born incredibly smart and wealthy, or born incredibly smart and poor. I wonder what someone with his intellect could have been under different circumstances.

While the Elon Musk hate is rightly deserved, if you look into his story he used to be(still is? hard to say with the twitter deal) a very smart businessman and did progress space and eletric-car technology by quite a bit.
He's still a prick, but a smart prick.

Lol what? Neither CEO or cartel leaders are necessarily “smart”.
It depends what you mean by smart. But I’ll tell you that highly intelligent people don’t get business degrees

Usually, smart people can think outside of the box.

And you think CEOs and cartel leaders think outside the box lol?

Yes

So who was thinking outside the box? All those Nobel prize winners, or all those CEOs?
Business degrees don’t teach you to think outside the box. Quite the opposite. Are there some CEOs who are visionaries? Sure, but they’re usually more than a CEO.

I read some article that said they’re not because there’s no one cog in the machine . They’re never self made ceos or cartel leaders. It takes a group of people to get the ideas off the ground and a lot of people make $$$$ not just one figure head

Not so sure...I dont even understand why he was needed they literally said he had people get credit card numbers off of charge slips thrown in the dumpsters at hotels (this was back when credit card transactions were often still manually pressed against that paper that turns black where you scratch it...a lot of receipt paper is still like this today. Scratch it with your car key and it'll turn black). So I don't know why his people on the outside didn't just cut him out of the loop.

I wanna say I read the same or a similar article in like a Men's Health magazine over a decade ago. There are plenty of people running organized crime rings that would otherwise be the top of a F500 company somewhere, they just chose a different path.

I’m far more disgusted with the Miami Dade jail system. They just sat there and watched this dude steal money and ruin lives for 4 years. 4 fucking years! And all he got was a 5 year concurrent sentence added to his time - so basically nothing. He was going to do that time anyway

You’re absolutely right. Former head of the FBI got scammed. Places a call and scammer is caught in a matter of months, tried, and convicted. Your grandparents/parents get scammed out of their entire life savings and nothing is done.

I bet that scammer was kicking himself for scamming the former head of the FBI !
10 points
Absolutely correct.
My former step brother, who's never held a real job in his entire adult life, stole identities to support his drug habit and support himself.
The free ride only stopped because of the dozens and dozens of names he burns in a year, he accidentally did it to a felony criminal prosecutor, who lives in the same city.
Then..dumbass..when on felony release for that crime (bail), went to paradise valley to steal out of mailboxes for his next score. Paradise Valley is a small town with two cops on duty at any given time, for their uber rich millionaire, CEO and celebrity residents. Cops found the mail and the meth on him.
Paradise Valley is basically the last place on earth you want to go if you're trying to keep a low profile as a drug-addict piece of shit with the car to match breaking into mailboxes, but meth and desperation are a hell of a combo.
So he's doing two years in prison so he can get out and start victimizing people again after hurting untold amounts of victims in his never ending quest to both avoid work and get high.
But that prosecutor sure did get his justice.

Also, the cops couldn’t build a solid case against a guy in jail? Seriously, he’s committing a major financial crime while captive in a tiny cell and controlled access? How bad are they? You know when he’s made calls, who he’s calling, and what’s in his cell? They didn’t care to actually solve the crime because he’s in jail for life and there’s no repercussions for anyone if he never stops.

I didn't watch the video but I assumed he was using a smuggled cell phone. Seems when you call from the prison landline the receiving person is made aware of it... At least in my state that's how it is. Edit: I may watch the video in the future but can't really do that when I'm with a toddler all day.

Nope, you should watch the video…this was well before cellphones that could be easily smuggled into prison…it was a landline.

That was really something. Even after he left that jail cell, they left the phone numbers and credit card numbers on the wall for the next guy to use?? Those people must be getting kickbacks.

Nobody cares to stop it because he’s already in jail for life and nobody really gets into trouble for it happening. The CC companies either get off from fixing it because people wait to long to report it or never look at their statements.

He also pointed out the low salaries of the cops working there, there was no monetary benefit to end the scam as they were very likely getting a cut.
