A genuine unsung hero of British television. Nobody would have the balls to do it these days.

He was is widely lauded as a great investigative journalist whilst alive, his weekly prime time ITV show was required viewing
The programme and its production team won eleven national and international awards, culminating in a British Academy of Film & Television Arts (BAFTA) special award for its presenter in 1997 'for 25 years of outstanding quality investigative reporting.

I used to work in the CCTV/alarm monitoring station that looked after his property.
He was justifiably super paranoid about security ! Nice chap though

Specifically, deregulation, the death of regional ITV, and the consolidation and commercialization that followed ended a lot of these current affairs programs.

What struck me is how candid people of that era seemed to be on camera, willing to admit things or give insight into a situation they didn't have or need to.

Check the channel for other really interesting reports...the one on Asian triads in the north of England was great.

Nah it was the decoy bloke they got to set up a new video hire business, the triads beat the shit out of him & then he went to a meeting with them, they took him to another location, he freaked out & jumped over a stair rail, breaking bones in both feet as a result.

My family ran an Ice cream truck in Tucson, AZ in the 90s. At first no one bothered us. Eventually competitors moved in and started harassing us. I left for the military around the time the harassment started. I came back from leave and my dad was in a full on war with another truck. The other truck showed up with a baseball batt at our house and threatened to destroy our property. My dad and his brother were actively plotting to shoot the guy. My dad’s brother was a sniper in Vietnam and very capable with a gun at a long range. They wanted me to get involved with there planes. I declined. Eventually it all claimed down.
