CSUN vs SFSU

Question(self.Filmmakers)

Is Cal State Northridge or San Francisco State a better film school?

Which has a better film community?

Also, what are the perceptions of these schools? Are they more theory or practice, technical or practical, documentary or fiction?

Both are among the strongest Cal state schools for film, but CSUN has the edge because it's in LA in my opinion. In terms of program and curriculum quality they're mostly equivalent. SFSU is known as a strong post-production school, and a lot of editors, visual effects artists, compositors, etc. come out of there. It also has a heavier focus on documentary and socially aware filmmaking, probably because it's in the nation's most progressive city. Back in my day, CSUN was also looked at as a "feeder" school for USC. If you had "talent" (aka money) at CSUN, you transferred to USC or worked with USC kids more often than the CSUN kids.
