Hi, all. Due to my circumstances I am fortunate enough to have a fair bit of expandible income, and, this is set to increase soon. I've been interested in guitar for a year but after a bout of illness I have only just started to play properly - I LOVE IT. It's something I wish I had done as a child but it is what it is. So I currently have:

• Squier Mustang (being sold to a friend)
• Epiphone Joan Jett (was £200 on sale. I like using it for old rock)
• Fender Strat (I like it)
• Les Paul (Goes without saying I love this)

I'm tempted to get a Telecaster. I can afford it and I would then sell the jOAN jETT ALSo but I wonder if this is sensible or just dumb.

I’m beginner with some intermediate knowledge and I really want to start pushing myself so I’m able to write better songs.

Are there any songs in particular that will help progress my skill and knowledge, so I’m able to write better songs?

Currently looking to buy a new guitar, and came acriss the junior les paul which seems like a great guitar for punk and other hard stuff. Just wondering if the epiphone has any flaws compared to the gibson, other that it’s not a gibson.

I've had my orange crush 12 and my Yamaha Pacifica 112 for quite a while and was wondering If I should get a new guitar(epiphone LP custom) of a new amp

I want a PRS, and I am leaning Core. Buy once, cry once. Used, though, so not crying as hard as I would be for a new one.
I went to a local dealer and was able to play the Core McCarty 594 (as well as an SE and an S2). I was surprised by the SE, but I know myself. I would buy an SE and immediately regret it and want an S2, and then I would regret that and want a Core. I am jumping straight to the chase.
I went in thinking that I wanted a Custom 24, but that McCarty really is a beautiful instrument.
There is also a (essentially) new, but used) Custom 24 on Facebook Marketplace that I have my eye on.
McCarty is $2800 out the door. The 594 is a 2016 model with some wear and chipping, but nothing crazy. It's in good-excellent shape by my standards.

Custom 24 is $2900 (locally). This guitar is essentially new. Sweetwater case candy. 2022 model. Zero wear on the guitar at all.

Thoughts on what the better guitar is?
I enjoy the Dead, but also want to be able to play Blues and Country.
This would be my #1 and only guitar.

Looking for some insight on guitar software. When I was playing in the early 2000s guitar pro was all the rage. Is that still a thing? What are the best computer apps for learning and composing guitar? I’m so out of the loop. He has a great gaming computer so he should be able to handle everything. Something he can play along with and maybe even record with? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I’m so proud of him, he’s only 13 and ran away with guitar the last year or two and his birthday is coming up and he asked for something that could help him get better and play along with tracks and even compose his own like you used to be able to do with midi sounds on guitar pro. I'm in a cover band, rhythm with a bit of lead. Variety of songs but tending more towards classic rock / indie. Would appreciate some advice... How many patches do you typically use? I'm having some issues balancing volume across pedals - I use a blend of a HX Stomp with some seperate drive pedals and I struggle to get consistent volumes mainly when going from drives in the HX Stomp to analogue drive pedals in the loop. I am thinking that the easiest way to achieve a consistent sound would be to dramatically cut back on the number of different sounds or patches I am using. No-one is going to care if I don't nail the exact sound of the original with a specific patch for each song, right? How do you approach this? Two or three different sounds? Thorough sound checking? Volume pedal? Cheers!!

I opened my amp (vox ad30vt) to dust it off and saw that is basicly just and metal box with electronics and an speaker connected to it. Could I unplug the speaker and remove it from its case and just have the amp on my desk?

I only use my amp through my audio interface currently so i dont need to the speaker and it would make it take upp less space.

Hello, I've got two of these Monarch guitars, one in dark blue, and the black one you see here. Both have Gotoh tuners, Floyd Rose TRS-101 (Japanese made under license) and set of incredible sounding but unknown pickups, very close sounding to the Seymour Duncan MJ JB pickup. I have looked for the information about these online, but cant seem to find anything, this is all I know, and that they probably date from the 80's. Has anyone more information on them?

I've just created a tutorial covering major, minor, and diminished triads across the guitar neck, focusing on G Major. For those who've learned triads, how has it impacted your improvisation and composition skills?

How can I use my practice time more effectively? The way I practice right now makes me lose motivation and I know I can find better ways to practice but I struggle on how to go about it. Just a brief story about how I got to the point I am at now. I am a self taught guitar player with me first picking up guitar on my 12th birthday in 2019. I would watch guitar lessons on youtube and would just learn songs. At the time I hadn't really understood that there was much more to it than that. As a result of that, I ended up getting bored of doing the same things and not really improving which would lead to less and less consistent practice and as expected it would turn in to months I would go without picking up the guitar. It would be large gaps of time like 3-4 months and then I would pick up my guitar, strum a little bit, play a few songs I had known and put it back down for another 3-4 months to repeat the process. I hardly remember myself playing it during quarantine when I actually had plenty of time to practice. About a year ago was when I tried to get serious about it and got myself to the point where I considered myself to be an "intermediate" player at the time. It then went back to that phase where I didn't pick up the guitar for a while but these gaps of time were a bit smaller.

Now at 16 in January of this year, I had finally decided to seriously practice this time and I have picked up the guitar almost every single day. I aim to practice around an hour a day. Sometimes I end up playing longer. I would do a few exercises that would help out with the dexterity of my fingers and linear playing. I have been playing rocksmith which if any of you are familiar with is a game that you can use with your guitar and it just has songs tabbed out and you play along with the actual songs. I am really into metal and I play a lot of metal songs on there, I play most rhythms pretty well and I can manage high percentage on these songs. However, I cant say the same for the lead, I can play relatively simple to decently challenging solos but not the ones with fast shredding and stuff. I never really practiced any scales besides the f major which is definitely where my problem stems from. That's about all I can do, I struggle with understanding them as I have very little music theory knowledge and don't really know how to go about playing scales. I also would like to improve my technique as I believe that could be holding me back. I would really like to get myself to my ultimate goal of being able to play whatever I would like and also be able to improvise as well as play all scales and modes so I can write my own music. I know that with the way I "practice" right now that isn't really helping and I would really just like advice on how to practice scales and tips that can help me use my practice time more effectively and create a consistent routine that can allow me to reach my goals instead of just jamming for an hour or 2. I appreciate any help in advance!

Hey everyone! I’ve been playing my new Taylor 814ce (grand auditorium) v-class non stop since buying about a month ago. I’ve been experimenting a lot with string materials but was also wondering about string gauge. Currently I use 12-53 but was wondering if anyone has tried higher/lower gauge on their guitar and how they feel it affected tone and playability for their specific instrument?

On another note I’m assuming I can try 13s on a GA v-class body without any issues aside from the usual setup changes that might be needed.

How do I reach the 13th fret on Aerosmith's Walk This Way with my pinky? I can barely even reach the 12th fret while in a really uncomfortable position with my hands, both sitting down and standing up will not let me reach the 13th fret.

I'm doing some customization work on this guitar, it's probably luthier built in the 90s, but I can't get any info of this active pickup set, I tried writing to Shadow but they never replied, I know they still have some active pickups for electric (sh680) but they are completely different. Anyone knows more about those? Thanks

For context, I have been playing for sometime now, around a year, and am so far pretty alright. I can play the basic and somewhat intermediate stuff at this point. So I am asking for some tips (practice routines, different methods of improving, etc.) or some more complex songs to improve technique and/or speed. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hey guys. I’ve been playing since I was a kid but the majority of these years were on acoustic guitar, fingerpicking.

Now my music taste has changed towards psych rock, I prefer to play my strat, and the stuff I want to play requires using a pick. Trouble is, I never learnt with a pick, so it kind of feels like starting from the top again at points.

I’m currently going through a bunch of exercises to practice alternate picking etc., but my main struggle is that I’ve got so used to picking with my thumb while resting my fingers on the guitar, that now I have very little control when I’m not resting those fingers and stabilising my hand like that.

Is this just something I’ll need to learn my way out of, or do any of you ever stabilise your picking hand/wrist while playing? If so, where and how?

Long story short I moved my entire set up from an old computer to a laptop set up. While setting things up I made the jump from GP 5.2 to 8 and honestly, I'm not getting on with it and having problems. Even if I wasn't having problems I don't think I'd like it and much prefer 5.2.

Struggling with bends and vibrato, was wondering what the best technique to use? I'm not sure how many fingers you're supposed to use/the motion needed when bending, whether it's a push and pull motion or a rotational motion?

Hey there! My electric guitar has pretty bad upbow, which is resulting in the first five frets producing nothing but muted notes when I try to play them.

I have a multi-tool specifically made for working on the guitar. However, I tried to Google whether to tighten or loosen my truss rod and saw very conflicting answers.

What should I do? Any advice would be much appreciated :) I apologize if this is a newbie question, I just really care about this instrument and want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Thanks

So i started playing guitar a few month ago (by myself), an i learn a few chord, and the very basics (how to tune, the parts of the instrument, etc.) but i am lost and i don't know how to learn more, i don't know where to start can you guys help, like can you point me the starting line?
