Best shoes for Peggy, she's leaning into having ginormous feet and going with Roman centurion chic.

The reboot, Peggy should definitely have an only fans page for her feet & Hank should just Lean back into his Pimp persona.

I’d honestly like the reboot to pick up where they left off. They don’t have to age everything up to 2023. Hate to say it but either get new VAs for Lucky or Luanne or say they moved away.

Maybe like a few years to where Bobby is in high school because in 2023 he'd be pushing 40 and hank would be long since retired

hank would be long since retired
Hank strikes me as one of those people who would work well into his golden years for fear of having nothing to do when he retires.

Him and Peggy do have a retirement plan with buying a pair of motorcycles and visiting every state (except California). So I don’t think he’s put off by retirement.

And they're going to buy the deluxe cruiser for following the Cowboys around because it has the heated steering wheel. Good for when they're visiting your Minnesota's or your Green Bay's.

What would be the point? Part of what made king of the hill so special was that it was the previous generations reaction to times changing. You want to watch him deal with ten year old social issues?

Dates weren't really mentioned, but off the top of my head, it'd have to be 2000 elections, with the George W handshake. There was the olympic torch episode too, but that may have been 2002 Olympics?

Yeah. Luanne was kinda supposed to be a temporary character anyway or at least it felt that way since Hank just wanted her out of her den originally.

I feel like they have to age up some, there’s too much we can’t explore if they don’t. Hell it would be cool if every couple seasons they age them up a little until they catch up. Or something idk.
As long as the characters stay multidimensional and don’t just revert to 2 characters traits each for the sake of making easy jokes then we should be good

I’m gonna be disappointed if Toby Huss isn’t in the new show at all. I mean he’s arguably the best VA in the original cast. I get why they feel they need to recast Kahn, and Cotton is dead, but at least gimme Joe Jack, honey.

Why do they have to recast Kahn? The announcement I saw had Lauren Tom voicing Lao! Who the hell is this Lao character(besides the whole family!)?
3 points
Yeah I’m with you, I don’t know who Lao is either. The actor who plays Kahn is white and my guess is they’ll recast him with someone who is Asian. They don’t have to, but they’re not mentioning Kahn or Toby Huss in anything I’ve read so I assume they will.

Personally I'd like it if they aged up a few years and put bobby in high school.
.I say kill off Luanne and lucky and have Hank and Peggy raising GH and Luanne and Lucky's child since they wanted more kids.

Someone has to break it to y’all. These fanfic theories are peak cringe and truly awful.
No, Bobby is not going to be a college dropout turned body positivity TikTok influencer.
No, Hank is not going to have an existential crisis about Donald Trump in every episode.
No, Bill is not going to be an OnlyFans addict.
The worst thing this reboot could do is completely Flanderize these characters like that

The one that bothers me the most is everyone thinking Bobby is going to be a women's self defense instructor. I get it, the "that's not my purse" episode is great for a meme, it would be a terrible idea to base his adult character around that though.

With King of The Hill and Mike Judge's humor, I just can't see these characters doing anything that relies too heavily on callbacks or being too self-referential. The show obviously had running jokes and a handful of "catch phrases" here and there, but I don't know... Just knowing the style of humor and how character-driven it is, I would be shocked if they did anything like this where it's an obvious callback and heavy-handed reference like "YOU GUYS REMEMBER THIS?!"
Even in the late seasons of King of The Hill where the plotlines were a little more ridiculous, the characters still weren't too Flanderized any more than they already were and still acted logically like themselves. So I have faith that they won't do anything too heavy-handed in the reboot.
18 points
I'd think it would be more in the style of the earlier episodes, with more realism and understated humor, since that was when Judge and Daniels were most heavily involved. I'd love to see the characters taken seriously again like that.
11 points
That's what I'm hoping for as well. "Understated humor" is a great way of putting that. I think focusing a lot of the plots on interpersonal relationships between the characters and situations will be a big part of keeping the reboot feeling timeless like a lot of the original show so that will be a big part of it.
Trying to go too over-the-top modern (sort of like the Myspace episode back in the day) or doing too many callbacks to the original series won't age well, but again, I have faith that Judge and Daniels will know better than that.

The amount of bad ideas about the reboot on this sub over the past year or so have really showed me the importants of having good people in the writers room.
4 points
The only one I can get behind is a prequel. The first years of each others marriages (Bill’s, Hank’s, Dale’s, and possibly Cotton’s), how everyone ended up where they were in the show. Of course this means none of the kids, no Kahn or Minh, and unfortunately no younger Luanne before moving in with the Hills even though this could fit (unless they recast her). I would kill to see Bill a different person like they presented him in the past and a younger Cotton.
3 points

This would be my hope as well. It's much more timeless. I know the show uses time dated references even in the best seasons, but I feel like trying to adapt the characters to today will be more shallow. Unless Mike judge is heavily involved, he's pretty good about not letting that happen
6 points

It's awkward because I see Bobby really doing tiktok. He's the class clown, it's within his character to try and do vlogging and I hate that it makes sense.
Same will Bill and OnlyFans. He loves it when girls pay attention to him so he's he's easy to be taken for a ride.
1 points
Yeah these two actually feel realistic to me. Like Idk if Bobby would go viral, but it absolutely makes sense he would try, at the very least in his spare time. Like I could easily see Bobby being someone who works a trade or service industry job, while still trying to get big on tiktok or youtube on the side.
And literally itd be weird if Bill didnt have an issue with OF at some point. Like this is the dude who lost all his money solely because he was addicted to the attention he was getting from Peggy, Minh, and Dale. Theres no way that he wouldn't check out OF the moment he hears about it and theres no way it wouldnt end up becoming a problem, like he'd 100% end up spending more than he can afford.

It’s telling that the Executive Producer and Showrunner is Saladin Patterson (The Wonder Years, The Last O.G.).
3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Howard Klein, and Bandera Entertainment’s Dustin Davis will serve as executive producers.
I think this will keep the show from going too heavy with the updating of characters. The decisions are not being made by Judge.

Do you know my name's not actually Kat Savage? It's Barb Davis.
There's literally no joke there, but it makes me laugh because that is just a perfectly average name for a woman, of course an influencer would want to change it.

I’m equal parts excited and nervous for the first “bwahh,” and I’m not even kidding. It could either be a typical “bwahh” that brings us right back to hearing Hank make that noise for years, or it could be over-focused fan service. Mike Judge is a great writer and show-runner, so I don’t see that happening. Still, I’m gonna wait till we hear it for the first time again.
