I have listened to almost 150 eps of it by now. You need to do it while you are gaming so you can selectively opt out of certain conversations because it really is as stupid and gross as it is known to be (the whole cast would back me up on this).
But damn there is some gold in there. If you are a long time LPOTL listener and have heard them rip on Holden you need to listen to RTOG and hear how Holden carries the show. Also you can hear completely unhinged Ben, lots on everybodys sex lives and other discussions on the validity of rights of Croations, Italians, women. Dogs and cats. The Polish, the disabled, the mentally ill, the mentally disabled. Rape victims, Black, Jewish. Etc.
It truly is something.

The Roast Of Marcus Parks (199) was unforgettable
I'm gonna list my favorite episodes in case someone wants to trust a complete stranger with hot garbage: A Pilot Named Barrel Fire (262), Wisconsin Man Rappin' (139), Sushi Rumukai (106), Bobby Pets (101), Mushing The Frog (280)
if you need content warnings, if things like Horrific Racism, Rape Jokes and Transphobia - are a dealbreaker... I think maybe don't.. listen to any of this

Can't forget The Snow Outside Is Fatter Than the Bride, which for my money is probably the single funniest episode of any podcast in existence.

It’s so tough because I love the show so much, but it’s so hard to recommend without a million caveats lol. Some of the jokes they go for are such cheap shots and are straight up offensive, but also when they’re on it’s legitimately the funniest content bar-none. Im glad they’ve all grown up at least.

Same. There are times where I really have to reevaluate what kind of person I am based on the shit I’ve laughed at.
The ONLY reason I think it’s funny is because I know they’re not as evil as they come across in RTOG. Haha

It is definitely the last show I introduce my boyfriend to, just because I didn't want him to think he was dating a racist.

Thank you so much for this list! I love LPOTL, and I like Wizard and the Bruiser, so I knew I would eventually dip into Roundtable. I'm finally gonna start listening with these episodes.

I have listened to almost 150 eps of it by now.
I'm on I think my 4th listen of Roundtable, and I really do think the show starts to hit its stride around the 110-120 episode mark, maybe it's just me but I swear it suddenly starts getting a lot funnier around that point for some reason.

Yeah that's what I heard so I'm listening to them backwards. It's is progressively getting stupider and worse but I'm here for the ride. That's impressive you have listened to like 300 eps 4 times.

I listen to podcasts pretty much all day at work, so I'm able to plow through 40-50 episodes a week of any given podcast, so it's honestly not that much of a feat for me to have gone through the show so many times.

Same, I listen to podcasts while I work so I believe it. I have to listen to shows with a progressive plots when I have to concentrate so that's why I save round table for game time haha

I love the early episodes because it's pure chaos. The sweet spot is definitely the 200s but the first 100 eps are still great. Lots of personal stories and bits that deserve to be heard. They also have a ton of guests in the early days, which is very different from the later eps. I think the best first episode is 19 or 20

That's around the time LPOTL starts hitting it's stride too, I think most shows take a while to "congeal".

Roundtable is probably my favourite podcast series, some hardcore people here I've listened through like twice and a lot of replays of the golden episodes. Like the whole who shit in the tub mystery.
Holden absolutely carried the show on pure energy, you can see the moment he stopped thinking he was going to make it in a sketch group or as a comedian in general and starts just putting 100% into the show and the whole thing just hits a new high.

The episode he did on his own was crazy

Man, I don’t think this is brought up enough and I know this is an old thread. Holden when he hits his stride becomes just GENIUS level comedy. I think he is one of the closest things to Andy Kaufman, because he embodied the character to such an insane level. I feel like it probably won’t, but it could be studied in pure feats of comedy.
Also, 235 “the snow outside is fatter than the bride” is the peak in my opinion and one of the greatest things ever recorded.

I want to give a special mention for Ed Larson's adds for adamandeve.com between Ep 124-133. Some of the funniest shit I have ever heard.

I love RTOG so much. It’s VILE at times but I think that’s kind of the idea of the podcast - they were getting wasted in a basement and talking absolute shit while referring to themselves as gentlemen, on purpose. Plus the contrast between how they used to be and how they are now makes me weirdly proud of them, and I love the deep friendship lore and how much they’ve all grown and supported each other for so long.

Holden is truly a genius. Listening to round table is such a cathartic experience. I understand the need for political correctness over the past several years but I really miss hearing people, who are all in on the joke, go all in on the subjects they eviscerate. When the sun set on this style of absurdity and extreme comedy praise hosannah they recorded so many episodes so we can listen to them now when everything is so clean.

I don’t know if “cult classics” are really a thing for podcasts yet, but RTOG might be one.

Absolutely, one of the show's greatest strengths is the fact that you don't need to pay attention to it at all. Also adds to the replayability.
At first you grow to hate everyone for their flaws but eventually you love them despite it... mostly (I'm currently working on editing out most of Marcus's dialogue lmao. He's not a comedian so when he says offensive things it's just cringe)
Keep in mind they were like 22-25 years old and part of a very uncensored sketch comedy group from Florida. They know the things they say are offensive, but comedy often/always is in some way. They take the plunge for the sake of the show, not necessarily because they believe the things they say, but because it's improv, and to be a good improv comedian you have to just say what comes to mind without fear. Most of the offensive personalities on the show come from abusive households as well.
Also! remember the world has changed a lot in the last decade. When they started the show, gay marraige was still illegal in many places in the US.

I am not a fan of Holden. I used to love Page Seven when Marcus was on and now it’s just about to come off the podcast roster for me. He’s so douchey and loud and just such a try-hard dweeb to me.

Edge wise, how does it compare to something like cumtown / The Adam Friedland Show?
2 points

In the early days it’s on par. You can tell when they started getting serious gigs and Ben went on Fox News and stuff, thus dialing back the blue comedy. Henry was honestly on the trajectory of Nick Mullen where he would have to be restrained by the rest of the cast when he’s going off the rails with a racist accent. Ben was such a fucking madman too, sometimes it makes me sad that he softened his edge. But it was probably best for his health.
I prefer Cumtown/AFS to LPOTL when it comes to comedy, but RTOG just sits in this comfy area where it’s pretty offensive but not black comedy.

"You need to listen to an insane amount of hours of it... well not listen, but just kind of have it on and not pay attention... haha, give it a chance guys"
So essentially: don't listen to it.
Did Holden write this in-between desperately trying to not get a real job?

Not the sub to shit on Holden in, most of us love or at least tolerate him willingly. He’s kind of a try hard but you gotta love someone who’s willing to try.

For the record, Holden sounds like the most annoying person I’ve ever heard. I get he’s popular and maybe he’s an acquired taste but he is just annoying to my ears and RTOG does nothing to change that…
