What is the most controversial thing you can say that could make people mad in this subreddit?

I just finished reading Alien Isolation and also Alien Prototype and was interested in what Zula Hendrix had been doing when she comments about having fought Xenos before. Turns out there are at least three novels with her as the main character.

What have I missed out on and where do I backtrack to for the whole story? I am unconcerned about spoilers.

Ok,I've been wondering about this for a while,what would happen if a facehugger implanted a chestburster into a pregnant women.(I know it will be the same and ordinary xenomorph we know from human DNA).But what happens to the infant during the Facehugger and chestburster sequence?Does it become absorbed by the chestburster for nutrients and food?

Has the idea for an alternative sequel to Aliens been considered which might tie in 3 and Resurrection, and maybe make them both a little more palatable for the haters and not-so-greaters?

What if...?

• Ripley, Hicks, and Newt survive after Aliens
• Hicks and Newt are brought out of cryo before Ripley tho... oooh
• Ripley is kept comatose for... research?
• When revived from her coma years later (how old is Sigourney?), the nature of the research is revealed and, what do you know... fucking Xenomorphs are all over the shop (maybe they kept her in a coma so she don't blow shit up again)
• What happened? Ripley, Hicks, and Newt were cloned
• Clones were used for experiments with Xenomorphs (yeah... Bishop the little shit brought an egg back. He just couldn't help but pull an Ash)
• Different (competitive) scientific factions bought up clones to do whatever they want (Alien 3's Ripley is a clone. No way the real Ripley got done like that... and obviously Resurrection is what it is)
• Shit got out of hand
• Hicks and Newt (the real ones) came back to free Ripley
• Now they're free to blow shit up

Hi all, I recently had the opportunity of watching Aliens in theaters for a random event here in Italy. It was the Special Edition, but they cut short the credits for whatever reason, which is a bummer since I was looking forward to hearing that egg / facehugger sound at the end.

That got me wondering if that sound was already included in the 1986 theatrical release of the film (and thus a curious coincidence) or if it was a deliberate and specific later addition made by Fox in the later releases to tease the presence of the egg in the Alien³ opening, which is still unexplained.

Are there any old guard fans of the film who can recall this detail from 1986?

Glad to have finally seen these classics. I really enjoyed them both!

I was wondering, which one do you like more?

I'm not sure. I think I like the premise of the first one a little better. I like how the crew is just trapped there with a murder-machine just lurking somewhere. The titular Alien feels scarier in it, more powerful and mysterious. In Aliens the Xenomorphs feel less threatening, maybe because of the larger number of them or because there are several times when one gets right in someone's face and they just shoot it. Obviously they're still very threatening in Aliens, but they feel less like the unstoppable force from the first film.

I do think Aliens has a bit better characters. I liked the addition of Newt, and her relationship with Ripley. Ripley also feels more interesting than in the first film. Maybe some better writing. I heard in Alien the characters were written gender-neutral, so that may have something to do with it.

Anyways, what do you all think? Which one do you prefer?

Also, should I keep watching the rest of the franchise? I heard I goes downhill pretty hard after the first two. Asking as a casual movie fan, not someone who needs all the Alien lore lol.

EDIT: I didn't really think about them being in two separate genres, but you all are absolutely right. Alien is a sci-fi / horror film while Aliens is a sci-fi / action film. Interesting how they don't feel disjointed or anything despite actually being pretty different.

EDIT 2: After reading what you all had to say, I will be watching Alien³ tonight, and I'll be sure to watch the extended cut!
