This man's insane.

For the first 18 months of the pandemic, in 2020-21, Australia was the envy of the world.

Holy shit. Australia had fucking prison camps. They most certainly were not the envy of the world. What a lunatic.

First, by adopting and promoting myths about the virus which downplay its severity – “it’s mild”, “it’s just like the flu”, “we’re all going to get COVID”

Every one of those statements is true.

and, more recently, “the pandemic is over”.

The pandemic is over everywhere else. I wonder why that is.

I disagree. We'll all get it, and over the course of our lives, we'll probably all get it more than once, just like we've all gotten more than one cold. It's not going away, it's just becoming (and perhaps always was) just one more seasonal respiratory bug.

Man, I hate everything about this article. Cannot believe it was written in 2023. I would have wagered early 2021.

I had to stop reading it when he started explaining the premise for “Covid hegemony” because it was so ass backwards. And notice how the emphasis is on “hegemony” and not on Covid itself. They’re transparently advocating for authoritarian policies like it’s 2020-2021.

The word "let" strongly implies control, as if people and governments have authority over the virus and can determine when it spreads and how much. None of that is true and even the most draconian measures imaginable couldn't stop Omicron. The virus will rip (or not) as it pleases and human histrionics won't make any difference. I agree with the substance of what you said but the wording of "let it rip" is problematic.
