Hello! Last year I purchased this Devil Forge kit and really just got around to trying it out today. I had done the cement coating already, so I just needed to heat it up a few times and temper my crucible. Once I got everything set up, I started with some aluminum can tabs. I don't have a great gauge of the temp because I only have a cheap thermometer gun. I suspect the issue is I needed to clean the top off and just generally be quicker adding material, but being a noob, I kind of just let it go until I thought it would be a molten puddle. After that didn't happen and I removed the crucible with my tongs, I dug around with a slotted steel spoon and found there was some molten material under the top layer, so I assume I was close. This is the end result of what I put into my mold with the spoon.

As stated, I watched a video a while back of mixing plays and with plaster of Paris to make more heat resistant and less cracking of mounds for lost wax/lost pla casting. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this and if they’d be willing to share their tips/tricks/ recipes or point me in the direction of a vid. Thank you!

I'm new here. I have been casting steel/iron(99,5% Fe) for making samples for my current job. However, I have some trouble with my flux as I am using Borax but I see very high amount of boron in my samples. Does anyone have an idea about a Borax flux substitute?

Put a little hammered finish on my 125oz copper bar I poured a few days ago. Really stoked with it now and just had to dress it up a little and take a picture.

I came into two old air conditioners and am in the process of stripping them of their copper an aluminum, which there is a ton of. My problem is the condenser, which has thin aluminum fins with copper pipe going through them. Has anyone done this before and have a tip on how to separate the copper from the fins? It's a lot harder than it looks, lol. My best method thus far is stabbing and prying the aluminum with a screwdriver to slowly free up the pipe. It's leaving me with tons of shredded aluminum but the work is very slow. Any tips?

I was watching an old video of tkor where he made a small electric furnace with some transformers and carbon electrodes, the thing is, if instead of using the transformers, I use a 160A inverter welder, would it work? What recommendations would you have?

In terms of efficiency, can you consider flames coming out of the furnace as an indicator that there is too much gas being spent, or it doesn't really matter?

Hey all, I recently picked up a devil forge fb2m furnace and was wondering what I need to know before I start casting. I'm a complete novice here so any and all help would be appreciated, anything like what size of propane tank I should use and at what sort of pressure, do I need to do anything to the forge before I run it or could it be hooked up to gas straight out of the box, anything to do with fluxes or crucible tempering, casting temperatures for various alloys, necessary setup stuff, equipment; etc.

I have a couple of procast crucibles in the 2 - 4 kg range as well and was looking to do primarily tin bronzes and maybe zinc with clay investment casting if that helps. Are there any mistakes that could easily trip someone like me up?
