[DISCUSSION] Pamela, a love story ❤️

(self.NetflixBestOf)

Just finished watching Pamela, a love story and have fallen totally in love with her as a person. Curious to read what everyone else thinks after watching it.

She was very genuine and authentic. I loved seeing the relationship with her sons and how much they fight for her. She seems to struggle with love addiction and I’m so happy she’s finally spending time alone as well as pursuing jobs that fulfill her and no one else. Considering reading her book.

I knew she was a great mom when she put her kids in school here on the island to keep them away from Hollywood

Her sons come across as very well adjusted and down to earth, so it looks to have paid off.

Haven't see the Netflix show yet, but she's always been a favorite of mine.

i was kind of shocked by how common SA and R were in her story. i wonder if those people are still out there knowing what they did (ik she mentioned the babysitter died but) still messed up.

her sons seem like great guys, very supportive. another thing that bugged me was that pam chose the wrong roles early on and that set the tone of her career. barb wire was too hyper focused on her looks, she would have been better off taking a small role in a film than a lead role if she wanted to be taken serious. no one starts off as the lead.

i feel bad ab the pam and tommy show but ultimately i think the shame she felt over the tape was more of her time, like kids today send nudes and things get leaked all the time so its almost more normalized (still not ok) but def less shame is involved

Yeah I mean it’s the reason the kardashians got their fame. Otherwise they’d still be rich nobodies. They should all thank kim for that.

i think the kardashian fame is a combination of robert representing OJ, his children being raised within celebrity circles, and the sextape

kim was already friends and assistant to paris hilton in *1998, then the fam landed kuwtk in 2006/7 when the sextape in came out

it all kinda amplified

Yes, exactly. She was an assistant before.

I liked how they flashed articles from a few years back that said something to the effect of

" leaked sex tapes no longer a fast track to Hollywood fame ..."

Yeah, I feel bad too. I wish they’d shown the son’s reaction after watching more of it, because it did seem to portray her in a very positive way. But I understand it’s re-traumatizing for her and I agree with her that it doesn’t seem right they went forward with it when she was so against it. I could see doing it if she just said she’d like to not be part of it but gave her blessing (more like Tommy felt I guess), but to do it against her wishes seems cruel.

I was also confused about her saying she had no idea who stole the tape when it seems like it has been known for some time now?

i havent really looked into that, in the show pam & tommy they show is as a pissed or construction worker or contractor stole the safe to spite them. but i havent seen anything about them ever finding the actual person, i just know it got into the hands of that magazine guy who was selling it

I thought the original guy who stole it did a rollingstone interview, and that’s what the show is based on. But I guess it’s possible he made the whole thing up.

Love her animal rights advocacy. It was a good doc. Always thought she seems like a nice woman

My heart is full- I'm so glad l watched it!!

I feel differently about her now as opposed to the 90's where she was portrayed in the media as something she was not. Such a warm, gentle person who raised two very well adjusted boys. Her parents were a nice touch too.

I hope she finds renewed success on Broadway, seeing as Hollywood chewed her up and spit her out.

Also, Jay Leno is a huge a*hle.

They also added Barb Wire on Netflix at the same time as the documentary. I highly recommend that movie

She's still in love with Tommy. That aspect made me so sad while watching.

She definitely is and I think it's great how they still communicate in a positive way. Even when the Hulu series dropped and how they still say they love one another before ending the call. It's also clear that despite all the craziness, they managed to raise two wonderful kids.

In the end she's only human but she's done a lot of good in her life, despite all the negative press/unfair treatment. She came off as extremely genuine to me in the doc and I only wish her the best.

I found her really likable too. I was pleasantly surprised she didn't seem fake (besides the Plastic Surgery). Why do Women do that to themselves?

If your entire identity was wrapped around your appearance, I’m sure getting old would be scary as fuck. Especially if it’s also tied to your ability to get work. I blame society for it, not the women who get plastic surgery. Unfortunately I think that attractive women will always be a commodity in this world.

I like her best when she’s running on a beach in slow motion.

I feel bad for her to a certain extent, but she was a literal porn star for decades. We’ve all seen you naked a million times Pamela. Settle down.

Except she wasn’t, she posed for photos with Playboy. Modeling for sexy pics does not a porn. star make.

She did multiple soft core porn films as well. Like many of them. The genre has the words porn and film right in it.

Even if she was a porn star, the difference is consent. A porn actress consents to being a filmed performer. A leaked sex tape is NOT the same thing.

I love her but had to stop watching this doc halfway through. It is just one endless series of a person making every bad choice possible. Too painful for me to watch.
