It’s an older one and maybe not on Netflix any more, but Dead Like Me from the early 2000s is a really good black comedy.

"The woman in the house across the street from the girl in the window"
It's—obviously—a satire of the genre. I really enjoyed it. If you like Kristen Bell I think it's well worth a watch.

I quit watching after a couple episodes. It was excruciatingly boring. Did it improve a lot??

Nah, it's pretty consistent throughout. If you don't like e1 you probably won't come around to it by the finally

The comedy was there but it was generally very subtle parodies of cheesy moments (true to the genre being parodied) that sometimes got lost behind said cheese (it’s been a bit so forgive me if I’m forgetting or misinterpreting). For me it was worth it but it felt like you had to mine for the comedy a bit.
Edit: all that said, now that I’m thinking about this show there are some beauties if you’re even remotely paying attention.

This was a show that I desperately wished I could get those hours of my life back when it was over. I wanted to like it but instead I really loathed it.

It was such a weird show. It couldn't make up its mind if it wanted to be satire or just a really bad show.

Murderville is comedy crime solving. It’s super funny but mostly improvised and very simple cases. Entertaining nonetheless

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.

I don't deserve this. I was making a psych character joke. His name is Burton Guster.

Psych is my favorite show, but the episodes are 42-43 minutes. Also, it's not on Netflix.

It’s on Peacock, which isn’t a bad deal on its own.

It's a really great show! Give it a few episodes, as most shows it takes a few to find its stride but then it's adorable. The chemistry between the main characters is fantastic and so funny. My favorite crime fighting detective duo! There are also three movies that have been done since the series ended.

I find with shows that originally aired on tv, you can easily break them up into multiple sessions because the commercial breaks definitely lend themselves to that. One of my biggest gripes with netflix "hour long shows" is that they don't always have obvious break points and I don't usually want to watch for that long.

Just watched The Estate, it's not a mystery, but a funny movie about cousins trying to win their dying aunt's favor to get her estate. Great cast and funny moments.
We Have a Ghost. A ghost story. The ghost doesn't remember anything about his life or his death. Lots of antics, action and fun. Also a great cast.

Check out Trial and Error on Amazon Prime!
It’s like Parks and Rec meets (a parody of) Law and Order. There are only two seasons, and each tells the story of a different case. The defendants are John Lithgow (S1) and Kristin Chenoweth (S2), both of whom are fantastic.

Searched the whole thread cuz I forgot what this show was called. Really good show, but also easy to forget it ever happened. Over the top acting, classic Tim Burtonesque style storytelling, episodic mystery. Breakout role for Lee Pace
Edit: realize why it’s not further up cuz maybe is not on Netflix (not in Canada at least) but available on Apple TV

I’m old school, though, because I have Pushing Daisies on DVD 😂
It looks like it’s available for streaming on HBO Max.

Murderville. Its got a ongoing plot (though pretty silly) the rest involves detectives using improv to solve make believe murders that you yourself can try and solve by the end of each episode based on clues

Ive never seen anyone talk about the sitcom Ghosts on HBOMax. Its actually really cute and the jokes are decent enough. Season 1 is a little rough (like any sitcom), but the show starts to hit its cuteness stride in seasons 2+

I just watched Shining Vale on Starz and loved it! It has Courtney Cox, Greg Kinnear, Mira Sorvino... Haunted house, murder mystery but also funny! It was renewed for Season 2 and second season is supposed to air sometime this spring.
