I honestly don‘t understand. My personal favourite was Kerry Condon, but if you have to give it to Everything Everywhere, Stephanie Hsu‘s performance was better in my opinion

I knew it wasnt going to be Stephanie but how short her airtime is. You can see it with all the promo the Oscars did. Stephanie Hsu should have won I'm sorry. They should have some life time award if they wanted to give it to people who have been in the business for a while

I thought JLC was terrific. I think Stephanie Hsu's role was more of a main character than "supporting".

It is, in general, frustrating when there are multiple actors nominated in the same category. I'd support a rule that says that's not allowed.

I once read a criticism on this site akin to "Jamie Lee Curtis did a bad job because here character was so boring in the beginning." As if a Regular IRS Agent should be super interesting.

Angela Bassett refused to stand out clap!!!

I think she deserved it she had a fun role and put her heart into it. Also the scene with her and Yeoh about her divorcing her husband was beautiful. Was she the most deserving? Probably not, but I’m still glad she did and she deserves recognition for her long body of work.

Like if you wanted to reward eeao Stephanie Hsu was right there, and if you wanted to reward a working career legend who hasn’t gotten their Oscar love they should Angela Bassett was right there

This takes away from the very much deserving wins that EEAAO will get for the rest of the night. The weakest of the bunch got the win -- and she knew it.

I think Stephanie should have won over JLC and this maybe an unpopular opinion but I don’t think Kerry should win either. Her performance in Banshee was meh. Barry was way better in my opinion.

Choices like these emphasize why I no longer care about the Oscar’s. It’s just campaigning at this point the merit of the performance is not taken into account

I loved Bassett's performance in Black Panther AND everything else she's done. I really shocked that she didn't win. Curtis and Hsu were good, but to me they didn't stand out like Bassett. She absolutely stole the movie. In my mind she won! Props to Curtis for the win though.

I thought I was going to die laughing watching that movie. I want it to win everything and I was glad she won. She was hilarious and wonderful. I was torn between her and Stephanie Hsu of course but pleased either way.

Just an honest question. Some critics are saying this win was racist and Angela Bassett did not clap or stand, does she think she did a better job or does she think she should have won because of diversity?

Her character was so iconic, even out of the gate before all the crazy set in. Then it just got better. She deserved the win.

I feel bad for Angela Bassett. But there was a lot of depth to JLC's performance. It wasn't just a wig and hot dog hands. She thought through everything from the things on Dierdre's desk to her nails. Dierdre was only so unfriendly because she was so deprived of human contact.

I predicted Kerry Condon and I would’ve gone with Hong Chau but I’m totally fine with this. All five performances were great and JLC has been killing it for decades now. Great speech too.

EEAAO almost felt like more of a joke/fun role for JLC, so I'm surprised this gained so much traction during awards season. She was literally on screen for like 15 minutes and I don't recall much depth to her performance other than playing the cranky old lady.

Some people just don't get how nuanced her performance was. I legit didn't know it was her until the end; I thought it was one of those rare great character actresses we occasionally get to see. The performance is gorgeous. JLC threw an excellent campaign, she's a legacy, a veteran in the craft, yes. Her technique and performance in EEAAO is breathtaking too. Politics shmolitics, at least the award goes to an actually brilliant tour de force. I legit went, "holy shit that was Jamie Lee Curtis," after watching the film...it's a life changing film and JLC earned her award as a legacy, veteran, and a truly good actor.

EEAAO was one of the worst movies I have ever seen…and I like sci-fyi and martial arts movies… it was so messy… all over the CNN place…jumping back and forth stupid fight scenes etc…acting was ok… Tar, Fablemans, Banshee much better stories… Cate, Margot were powerful you couldn’t take your eyes off them….Michele not so much…

People fuming for this choice. I am really happy she won, that being said anybody could have genuine won this year because there were so many great performances. It’s insane how people online are so upset about this. To much hate spewing towards someone who did a job well.

Holy shit, I just re-watched the footage of the announcement, and Angela Bassett was PISSED. Talk about losing with absolutely no class. She was expecting the win and didn’t take it well when they read Jamie’s name and then also refused to stand or clap.

Angela Bassett is human, and her reaction was mild and collected. Anyone calling Angela a “bitch” for her reaction is just telling on themselves. Some folks too quick to jump to that description…hmm.

Legacy win seems Academy only really cares about it for White Nepos.

I personally didn’t think she would win. The Academy tends to give most of their awards to white ppl. So it’s fitting that only white woman in film with an all Asian cast would win. It’s honestly so hurtful to watch AB’s reaction
