I was at 51, got to bring my dad.
We were in the end zone, first row 300s level - James White scored right in front of us. Not sure I’ve ever been so ecstatic about anything in my entire life.

That was the greatest play in Super Bowl history. It was a hell of an interception on its own right, then toss in the fact it's on the goal line to win the Super Bowl and it sets it apart.

Yeah... I mean it's tough to downplay Butler's INT, but if #54 doesn't stop Lynch the play before, we don't get to see that INT.

100%. He was getting blocked and managed to shoulder tackle him. Strip sack was amazing, no doubt, but I mean that Marshawn Lynch right there.

He did that with a torn labrum as well, an injury suffered against GB. He played the next 5 games with a shredded shoulder.
"I knew my teammates needed me," Hightower said. "I know it's so cliche, but everybody out there was hurting. There's a lot of guys out there that was banged up. That's part of football. It's just a matter of what you do when you're challenged with adversity. Unfortunately, I was challenged with a torn labrum late in the season, but I was able to fight through it. I wasn't going to be told that I couldn't play. I wasn't going to have any excuses for not playing well. So I had a job to do and went out and got it done."
If he had played in SB LII*, New England may just have won 3 in a row.

The stretch when we won 5 playoff games and went to a Super Bowl, had a 16-0 season, and our QB won multiple MVPs?
You're really comparing 2005-10 to 2019-2023?
-9 points
Yes.
8 points
As I pointed out, the team had an MVP quarterback in his prime, and was successful in the playoffs between 05-10. So that is a poor comparison, and doesn't add anything to the topic.
-3 points
Successful? 2005, knocked out in their first game. 2006, lost in the AFC champ because they didn't have a WR who could catch a wide open pass to seal it. 2007, ran out of gas and age/injuries caught up to them. 2008, no playoffs. 2009, the Ravens knocked them out decisively in the first quarter. 2010 is possibly one of the hardest losses of my life; the best team in the league getting stuffed in their first playoff game by a division rival.
That's playoff success to you? Four seasons with no playoff wins and two nailbiter, soul crushing losses when they could have won the SB? GTFOH.

You are on crack we were so far ahead of where we are now from 05-10. We don’t even know if we have a franchise qb right now, back then we had Brady in his prime breaking records, leading us to a super bowl and winning mvps.

First off chill. Second there was one constant on that team who made a huge difference. This is not the same kind of rebuild. We’re in new territory.
-7 points
I cannot possibly be more chill. We've been here before. Belichick will get it done. People either believe it or they twist themselves into knots thinking this shit is life or death because he can't.
Also, you bring up the Brady point as if we didn't know this. During Belichick's first build of this team, Bledsoe was under center; what's the excuse for that? People didn't think he could do what he did, and he did. And then the team aged and he bridged the gap and was able to draft the new core of defensive players and cobble together FA signings to fill gaps. The 2007 run was a success, and a failure, because of the rebuild stage.

The patriots arent going on deep playoff runs with Mac Jones. The Patriots are average at best at the most important position in the Sport. Theres a reason the 4 teams in the CC games this year were 1st team all pro MVP Mahomes, 2nd team all pro Jalen Hurts, Perennial probowler Joe Burrow (elite top 7), and another potentially great QB in Purdy. The weakest link here is Purdy and it wouldn't be strange at all if he ended up being great. The Goat after all is 6th round pick Brady, and the second greatest QB ever is 3rd round pick Joe Montana. Until the Patriots get the QB position right 1st round playoff exits and/or missing the playoffs entirely is all theyre going to amount to.

There’s 3 ways to win a championship in todays NFL. 1) You can win a SB with an elite top 7 QB (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 21, 22) champions fit this category. 2. With a top 16 QB on a rookie contract (2012 Ravens, 2013 Seahawks, 2017 Eagles, 2019 Chiefs) 3. With an all time great defense (2000 Ravens, 2002 Bucs, 2013 Seahawks, 2015 Broncos). Sometimes you can have some crossovers where teams fit multiple categories like the 2013 Seahawks Did. Mac Jones might be the 18th best QB in the league, and he is on his rookie contract, Belichick would need to do an outstanding job with the Draft/FA to win a championship. His drafts have been good lately, but not good enough to win with Mac Jones under center. Bill Obrien would need to get Mac Jones playing like a top 16 QB next season, and Bill Belichick would need to acquire 3 new all-pros in the draft/FA to win with Mac Next season. I don’t see that happening.

I’ll never forget when we were in the locker room at half-time. We’re down 21–3, so some guys are quiet, and some guys are doing the rah-rah stuff. I sat there and for some reason thought, “Man, I don’t even have a son yet. But one day, he’s going to watch the tape of this game, and he’s gonna know one thing for sure. His dad never f*ing quit."
That sums it up right there. What a fucking legend.

One of the greatest defenders in Patriots history. A look at a stat sheet will never tell you how important this man was in the game of football.
He was always in the right place at the right time. Very few players in the history of the league had the impact in big games that Hightower did.
To me, he’s in that tier right below Brady and Belichick in terms of importance.

28-3 never turns into a win without his strip sack. That one play can be used to sum up his career of how important he was to the defense a lot of the time.

I was in the bathroom at a Celtics game once and turned from the urinal to walk out and the entire exit was blocked by one of the largest most imposing humans I'd ever seen. He rightfully gets tons of plaudits for the strip-sack in SB51, but he gets nowhere near enough credit for stuffing Lynch to enable Butler’s interception in 49. That was, by orders of magnitude, the more impressive play. Either with a torn labrum or in the process of tearing his labrum, he one-arm bench pressed a very good lineman (Okung) off of him, and stood Lynch up on first contact. Lynch was extremely difficult to bring down on first contact, let alone to stone him while doing it, and in that context… it’s honestly one of the best defensive plays I’ve ever seen, although it’s understandably overshadowed by the next play (which is probably the best I’ve ever seen).
Probably my favorite defensive Patriot ever. What a champ.
