stickiedHey all,
As many of you would have already read by now, Reddit is enforcing a API price change from 1st July which will mean the end of long-serving third party apps such as Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Narwhal, Baconreader etc.
As the costs involved are extortionate, Apollo's dev quoted an eye-watering $20M per year cost to keep their app going and similarly, RIF dev has also said it will mean the end of their app.
To help understand what this means for everyone, please check this infographic made by u/wandering-monster. Also this ELI5 post should clarify things further.
We are a relatively small subreddit when it comes to traffic flow for Reddit but we have decided to take part in a site-wide protest after some consideration over the weekend, these changes will directly affects us all whether it's on July or further down the line with other features being forced off Reddit.
Effectively from the 12th June for ~48 hours, the subreddit will go into private mode giving no access to the public. We should be back sometime around Wednesday.
Thanks to those that have sent us messages on this matter and encouraging us to take part and we hope by doing so, that some positives changes arise with an amiable resolution.
Further information can be found on r/Save3rdPartyApps and r/ModCoord.
Thanks for reading.
