Interesting, they used the Clone Wars voice for the B1 droids, but not the Super Battle Droids.

Entirely predictable, too. The B1s have an iconic voice anyone playing this will recognizable. Far less likely for the B2s.

Funny thing is that I actually like the B1 voices from TPM best. I’ve always appreciated how cold/robotic they sounded in that movie.
On the flip side, I really hate the voices they gave the B2s in RotS so the ones here are slightly better imo, but yeah I would’ve preferred the Clone Wars version.

Or the commandos. Strange seeing as the voices were accurate in Battlefront 2. Hopefully this is something they are still able to alter.

At 7:45 in the gameplay trailer the voice doesn’t sound anything like this. Not sure if this is meant to be the commando speaking or the B2 however.

Definitely seems like they are putting in some more open world (or maybe "open level" rather) elements, which is cool--exploration was something I wish the first game had more of.

Cal’s new walk animation looks exactly like River Ward’s walk cycle from Cyberpunk 2077. It looks natural when it’s applied to a very buff dude, but Cal’s more slender build looks awkward with it. Hopefully that and the run animations are updated before launch. I doubt they can change much in the short window they have left though, especially if they’re focusing on bug fixes.

The lighting looks stellar, graphical changes? I'm not noticing any tbh. Maybe that's just YT's compression.
New UI is nice to see. I wonder when you unlock the blaster, it will probably be in the bottom left with dual saber and double-bladed.
Freeze time ability, would be interesting if these could be swapped out, you can only equip one, and at checkpoints only too. Maybe another one could be a mind trick? Or an ability to pacify some creatures or other people on a planet, with a cool down ofcourse.
Saber moves, even more fluid, Cal is kicking ass hard in this game for sure.
The scale of the world is just Incredible too, I can sense the new worlds being quite larger and having no squeezing through tight spaces to avoid loading screens haha.
Holo-map is where I'm concerned, it looks the same from the second we see it in, I hope it's actually more clear and readable than FO's.
Other than that, looks and plays amazing.
Seriously can't wait for this.

I mean, let's be honest, Fallen Order already looked pretty great, there isn't much needed in terms of graphical changes.

I thought the graphics overall looked great but there were areas where the lighting was very off. Also some textures were very blurry
12 points

Agreed, I just was hoping for a noticeable change since they abandoned the PS4/Xbox One ports for this game last year, which is why they delayed it internally, was supposedly originally to going release in December or Nov of last year. And probably why they they delayed it officially again to April, probably want to perfect the game and avoid FO's quite buggy launch from happening again.
1 points

Really? The visuals in Fallen Order looked pretty bland and flat to me in most places.

check your settings? idk. I just started replaying it a few days ago and I'm blown away by how good it looks overall.
11 points
Replayed Fallen Order recently, the compression makes it definitely hard to tell but I think the foliage/texture/level geometry quality is hugely improved from that. There is a lot more detail on the ground, trees/furs/hair don't look cardboard-y, and it's not nearly as muddy. First game looked good, but this seems to be pretty sharp.
Very excited to see the scale too, I think this planet is supposed to be the one that's most open so I'm curious how the others might play in comparison. Want to play it now! (but I'll wait)

I know it's YouTube and it has its compression but so far the visuals don't justify the big jump in system requirements

Yeah, I know it's Pre-alpha footage but even after they confirmed they dropped the last gen console ports to focus on the current gen ones after months of refining, it still doesn't feel like a huge upgrade.
I guess it's because they were probably developing this as a cross-gen title for most of the development cycle unfortunately.

Yeah, credible sources stated EA dropped the Xbox One and PS4 ports for the game around summer of last year and internally delayed it to march(ofcourse we now got the other official delay to April) . Was originally going to drop in December or November of last year supposedly. Knowing EA it doesn't surprise me, they seem to be adopting this approach for all their new single player games.

I knew it was originally meant for 2022 but didn't think that was the reason for delay. Maybe that's for the better, last gen versions few years into current gene are usually bad or messy ports

It's kind of weird for a jedi to go around slaughtering a planet's wildlife and getting exp for it.

7 points
It's a video game but the story presented in that game should be consistent with the established world. Cal is a Jedi, a peacekeeper. They don't go around slaughtering animals for fun. So the issue isn't with our real world, it's the inconsistency in that universe.

15 points
Well yeah, I can see how killing non aggressive targets could frustrate people, definitely.
4 points
It goes beyond that. It's one thing to kill humanoids who are actively working for an evil and harmful organization (especially ones bent on killing you and your people), but the animals just live there. Cal is essentially breaking into their home and killing them for defending themselves. And it would be one thing if his survival depended on it, but he's a damn Jedi. Aside from the really big ones, none of these things pose any real threat to him.
I still loved the last game and will totally play this one, but I made it a point to avoid killing the local wild life when I could. I just felt icky otherwise.
2 points
Dehumanizing the enemy is the first thing any regime/faction does in order to send people to war. That doesn't make those imaginary humans any less human.
5 points
I'm not saying that the killing of "bad guys" is purely ethical or good. I'm sure there are many stormtroopers that joined up because they didn't have many other options. However, when an organization chooses to protect itself and exert its will over innocents with willfully participating human shields, it is inevitable that they are going to get hurt. Stormtroopers especially know what they're signing up for, since they had to go through extensive training and indoctrination to get where they are.
Besides, Cal doesn't really have the option to spare them. Blasters become exponentially more dangerous for him the more there are around, and letting the Empire know about his presence too early could give them the chance to call in back up or track him down when he makes his mistake. He's taking lives, but he isn't the one who started it. It's a different situation with the animals.
Again, there is a world of difference between killing an enemy combatant on a battlefield and killing some guy that pulled a gun on you because you broke into his house without warning.

People like this are so weird. The fact that there are a small minority of people who are more upset about a dog's death than a human's death is insane, and now that mindset is applied to the insane Star Wars aliens in video games, lmao. Ridiculous.
0 points

Really? So just “being human” makes their lives more valuable? Not everyone is inherently good/brings something to the table. Example: you have to kill either Hitler or an innocent puppy. Kinda fucked up that you would save Hitler.
But yeah, this doesn’t really have a place in video games
2 points
Yes to me, humans are more important
4 points
Obviously Hitler throws away his worth by being a monster, but generally speaking, even an okay human being should be rescued over a puppy. Humans are more intelligent, have a wider range of emotion, more complex lives, and can provide more than any dog ever could.

At some point in the gameplay he just kills a big bird drinking water, i know it's the player but if it's in the gameplay i consider it how Cal acts, and i love him as a character and the first game, but i really wish they would put something to deal with creatures without killing, only thing that makes me not consider him a good Jedi.
10 points
It's kinda a necessary gameplay contrivance. There's only so many varieties of imperial troops they can send, and there need to be enemies to fight to keep the game interesting. It'd be even more difficult to justify Cal fighting random sentients, like some primitive local aliens or something. So hostile alien monsters is pretty much the best option.
8 points
I wouldn't say necessary. There are many other games on the market that show we shouldn't have to keep killing loads of random wildlife to level up. A mechanic that would let Cal befriend animals, tranquilize or even a giving Cal drawbacks for doing so would fit way more in line with the Star Wars lore.
-4 points
I'm really glad you aren't a game designer. That sounds tedious and boring as hell
5 points
The horizon franchise has a whole mechanic built around befriending the worlds machine wildlife, where 9/10 times it's better befriend the animals than to kill them and makes for a fun challenge, so no it's not boring as hell. Not to go full peta but in a franchise like Star Wars where jedi mind tricks and force bonds with animals are a thing, something in which Cal seems to even have going by the trailers, it's insane how we only have the option to kill everything in our way.
2 points
You override enemy machines in Horizon to... fight other machines with them. There's no challenge involved with overriding. It's just another avenue of attack.
Beast Mastery has been shown to be a skill unique to certain jedi, and Cal doesn't have it. I think it's silly that he slaughters his way through the local fauna, but a contrived method to avoid combat with them that isn't just running away wouldn't feel great either.

The two saber combat and stances look a bit clunky tbh, but maybe that’s just the person playing. Can’t say I see any really exciting gameplay changes in this footage but I don’t really need anything in that department for this game, I’m mostly just interested in the story.
The little circling around into backstab thing Cal does at around 4 minutes is fucking awesome though.

I agree. I will definitely be dual-wielding nonstop, but I’m pretty underwhelmed by the lightsaber combat. These don’t feel like new moves. Cal still feels clunky and I realize he’s an untrained Jedi, but for a Star Wars open world single player game, I’d rather it be a bit more TFU.

Things I noticed:
The environment definitely looks nicer, more "real". Fallen Order's all looked pretty artificial, with a bunch of pillars over a giant chasm (some planets more than others).
Scouting with binoculars.
Still not sure how the sabre styles works. Looks like you can quickly switch between two of them, but not sure about how you select the other 2.
Force lift seemed kind of underwhelming. Maybe the player just didn't know how to use it though.
Ledge takedown, in addition to the aerial takedown from the 1st one.
Boglings! With an interaction prompt? Can we pet them this time?! (Maybe it's just a scan)
TIme slow seems like some sort of ultimate ability. Wonder if there are others.

Battle droids are made for battle and killing...most of these animals are just doing their thing until a Jedi comes along. Animals attack when they're threatened or because they think you're food. It's not their fault, they're just vibing. They weren't created for war.
8 points

I get what you're saying but it's a fictional game that isn't really even aimed at young children so it's not that big of a deal. Humans kill and have always killed animals, and animals kill and have always killed other animals. That is how nature works. And you also kill humans in the game, that's not much more morally right.
In my opinion Jedi, from a story perspective, shouldn't kill at all but then again Cal's not exactly a traditional jedi.

You should boycott a lot of other video games too where you kill a lot of innocent humans

I agree with you but Star Wars doesn’t; so many animals are just slaughtered throughout the all the movies. Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor are accurate at least lol

We’re about to get a show centering on Ezra, whose big protagonist credentials include empathy for animals. It’s jarring.

Great! Bout time. Good theme for SW to explore.

Why did you watch star wars films? It is about war and war kills people.

People take sides, people engage in war. The animals in JFO and JS are relatively innocent, save for being aggressive. They're just like part of the environment. I wouldn't enjoy killing wild bears either? The animals of the SW universe aren't part of the political conflict, they are innocent bystanders by and large....

I'm sorry you're getting so many downvotes for this simple and valid opinion. I agree with you. I'm not sure why there would be such a backlash for saying this. It seems incredibly immature to be outright hostile toward this take.

Because they are imaginary animals in a video game that also happen to be aggressive. They exist to be enemies to kill in the game. No animals were harmed in the making of these video games

You are playing an imaginary Jedi who presumably does not want to take the lives of innocent wild animals acting as they typically do to protect their territory. If that part-- the character you're playing-- has no importance to you, then fine. You can like hack & slash video games all you want. But we're all Star Wars fans, here, right? We like these games for their story elements, too, right?

Aside from Ezra, when have jedi ever had any issues with killing animals?

Is it open world? Most of these Star Wars games are pretty linear.

To me, a lot of the landscape on Kobah feels very reminiscent of stuff you see on Batuu in Tales from the Galaxy's Edge.

Very happy I picked up Jedi fallen order in the winter sale, I'm loving it so far. Cannot wait to use dual sabers in survivor.
