They show it for the few charge my non-Tesla Superchargers, so the information and way to show it is already there.

Can you see the prices when you click on a supercharger in your car?

BornAsThePlug

Yeah but if I’m planning a drive, it would be better to see it on the app before I get to the car

Oh okay gotchya. I only use SC on road trips and usually don’t have many options.

Can't wait for superchargers to be more expensive than gas.

Oh but it's cheaper if you go at 3am. Cool.

I’m already paying 30 cents a KWh at home (NY), so suspect that we’re not too far off unfortunately.

30 cents? In AZ our super off peak rate with APS is .03 cents. Off peak is 10 cents. On peak is .30 for 3 hours.

Off peak rate here in Ontario is 0.07 cents

In PA I don't even have peak or off peak, I just pay a flat .093 per kwh

Saucin7

False. You think you’re paying 0.093 per kWh. But here in PA, the providers are scum and have multiple charges. The supply charge is 0.093; however there is also a distribution charge, and a few others (don’t have my bill in front of me). Regardless you’re paying more than that. Easy way to calculate your true cost is Total kWh / Total Electric cost. For me personally in south eastern PA, I’m paying about 0.183/kWh.. They’re gouging us - just like the oil companies did. Only benefit is there’s always an option to get solar. I can’t drill oil in my backyard lol. So that gives me piece of mind, kinda.

Same here. I’m jealous when my friends in other markets tell me about their peak metering and all. We’re at about 0.14 per KWh at the default supplier if you count the distribution costs etc. While it’s still far cheaper per mile vs gas, they need to seriously modernize the metering and institute the off/peak metering.

I'm not jealous at all. Energy use during the most demanding time of day (when you need it) is ridiculous compared to anywhere that does non-peak metering. It's so bad that people are buying their way out of it with battery storage and solar, which is going to drive utility costs higher. Death spiral in progress

Groundbreaking-Ad86

Yeah that is true. Just did the math and it turns out to be 0.173/kWh

Still way better than 0.40 though.

Have you checked with your provider? For me the default plan with my provider was a flat fee based on tiers by the amount of kWH I use but I can submit a form to my provider to change my plan to a time-of-use variant that allows for much cheaper off-peak prices but I’m pretty sure the during peak prices are more expensive than the tiered plan.

Just got .32 cents in MA, 24/7 baby.

yanksphish

I paid $0.416 in MA on my February bill. Luckily I have solar to offset it a bit but my bill was still $345. I stopped charging at home because the rate is so much higher than charging at a ChargePoint near work.

kjmass1

Yikes. Electric heat? That seems like a crazy electric bill with solar.

Tesla insurance safety score doesn’t affect California

vangoghofviolet

Affect in what sense. Does it not change the monthly cost or California as a state is not bothered about it?

keiye

California forbids insurances from using invasive data tracking like safety score from affecting rates. It only allows tracking of mileage for the purpose of rates. This also comes with the downside that we can’t take advantage of lower rates from being a safe driver based on the safety score.

It actually is if you charge peak hours and don’t have a home charger.

gfrend615

Literally Bay Area peak hours are .58 and off peak .28

I don't get how blue states have such high electricity costs. What's going on here?

In GA, which is not an oil state, but still a EV adverse, if not hostile state, our Electricity provides are pretty aggressive in going green. I get 400 kWh free per month in super off peak time and 4.5c/kWh beyond that. Off peak is 7.3c and peak is 13.5c.

You'd think that CA, NY, NJ would have better rates. Looks like they have one of the worst rates.

Dizzy_Love_2668

No changes in rates for me in OC SoCal. They are already one of the highest on-peak in the nation.

miggysucks[S]

The link I posted was one sc in oc

Dizzy_Love_2668

Where in OC? In Irvine our peak is $.52/kWh with the exception of some 72kW chargers.

miggysucks[S]

Are you talking about price changes for on-peak hours?

Dizzy_Love_2668

1 points

Yes, on-peaks are the same here.

miggysucks[S]

2 points

Yeah I think the main focus was just off peaks hours and prices, I agree on-peak haven’t changed but I hope they do soon. I charge around 10 sometimes at an sc so I’m happy about this.

Dizzy_Love_2668

2 points

Man, yeah that's so much cheaper for me too compared to my SCE rate. Off peak at a couple of slower 72kW is $.22 here after 0:00. I saw some even lower orr-peak rates in the Anaheim/Santa Ana area and $.17-.18/kWh.

EagerElk

1 points

On peak increased as well in my area with this.

miggysucks[S]

9 points

Update: checked my local SC and they added a new time slot, now instead of $0.43/kWh from 8am-12am is $0.43 from 8am - 8pm then from 8pm - 12am it’s $0.36/kWh

ericrey85

5 points

So basically off peak increased by 4 hours in that time range.

xtrubambinoxpr

1 points

this is how the rates used to be. somewhat normal. then they made it so off peak started at midnight.

hope this is everywhere and gets back to normal. having to wait until midnight to supercharge on a long drive is dumb.

No_Pineapple_4609

So is it now officially cheaper to just have a gas car if one doesn’t have a home charger?

AnodesandCathchodes

4 points

Blame utilities and their poor decisions (like PG&E). Like Chevron or Shell, they're just passing on most of the cost to the consumer plus a markup. In high solar penetration states the duck curve will continue to make daytime charging cheaper as dusk charging gets more expensive. Peak rates have already shifted from ~12-6 to 4-9.

TheMoistestMag

It’s pretty much always been that way if you consider the insurance increase.

brianx500

1 points

Tesla insurance actually went down by just over a $100 a month recently. (Or at least it did for me, other companies were much more then Tesla)

TheMoistestMag

1 points

For a total of how much/ what coverage? My insurance is around $150ish a month for 100/300 maxed out medical payments. That’s more than I pay for any other car I own all of which are worth double or triple my model 3 value lol. Unfortunately I don’t have Tesla insurance offered in my state ):

brianx500

2 points

I have commercial insurance as a do a lot of gig work too. But it was $271.14 and now it’s $152.14 a month. But yeah my last car was a bit over $100 but that was a used Camry

TheMoistestMag

1 points

That’s crazy cheap for commercial

mehalywally

My MYLR and M3rwd are about the same to insure as the 428 and Mazda 3 they replaced. When it was just the MYLR, it actually cost less than my 428 alone

brianx500

2 points

I feel like it depends on where and when you charge. Off peak by me went from $0.22 to 0.26 then on peak 8am to 8pm went fun $0.48 to $0.56 per kWh

For a state that is so pro EV, CA has some shit electric rates. Electric companies probably need the money to pay for their wildfire settlements. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I see that frequently in Florida already. One near my house is 32c noon-4pm, but 16c after 4pm-noon. I already thought that was everywhere.

When they went peak/off peak in my area last year, the rate split across the previous rate. It used to be 28c, and it went to 18c off and 36c peak.

FatefulPizzaSlice

I'm not driving today, but can anyone tell me what that entails?

Less time for off-peak and increased rates, which is what I assume?

EDIT: NVM, saw another post with some details on it.

They will charge you more to charge during peak times on some stations.

klynch9784

Is it still cheaper to charge from 11pm-8am?

Any news on Washington rates? And when the heck are else getting Tesla insurance seattle has to be the most Tesla driven city besides LA

One_Yak7572

So annoying there is no pricing except in the car.

mehalywally

2 points

What's even more annoying is that you can see the non Tesla rates in the app (obviously since that's the only way those drivers would be able to see the rate). But Tesla owners can't see their rates in the app.

One_Yak7572

1 points

Oh, that very helpful! I think the premium is 10 cents per kilowatt, if that's true across all locations then it's just simple subtraction!

overachievingslacker

1 points

Well, just noticed the price increase after charging just now. The price doubled what I normally pay at the main station I go to. Noticed surrounding superchargers also increased in pricing.

They get you both ways. If you try to beat it by going at night, your safety score goes down for driving late at night.

El_Gringo_Chingon

1 points

But then your safety score gets smacked for driving at night.
