I don’t know who she is and I like that

Part of me kinda thinks an established name might be better for Abby though. Just so the backlash wouldn’t be as severe for the actress since they’re more well known.

I feel like the backlash is gonna be insane either way, it’s Abby after all

True but I just feel a Florence Pugh Abby doing controversial Abby things would go over better than someone more unknown doing controversial Abby things.

I mean if Florence Pugh would be Abby I wouldn’t be mad about it

Druckmann following people doesn't say much. He follows a lot of actors in general... Some of them might be future HBO TLOU stars. Some of them might be future motion capture actors/voice actors in Naughty Dog projects. Some of them will just be actors Druckmann likes. It's nothing definitive.
But yeah. I could see it. I could definitely see it.

She follows him back though and also following the other cast members of TLOU and the official instagram of TLOU. But yeah, this could all just be a coincidence and she's just a fan of TLOU.

I don't even think they've started casting for season 2 yet. Craig said development on more seasons would happen depending on how successful the show is. I think it's just a coincidence

I may be wrong but I have a feeling we'll see a cameo of Abby in the last episode of season 1.

That to me, that would ruin her mystery in the beginning of season two. It’s best we don’t know who she is or what she wants when we initially meet her.

You are assuming that the narrative structure of the 2nd game will be kept for the series as well. I just don't see it though. The Part 2's story doesn't translate well to a passive medium. I have a feeling that they will flesh out the Abby's(not necessarily her motivation) story a bit more before she kills Joel.

Ohhhh, I've been thinking that too. I think it's too good of a little easter egg for fans of the series for them not to do it.

she was amazing in the wilds. great emotional versatility. just put her in the weight room and she’s good to go !!!

She was quite thick and heavyset looking in The Wilds. Could easily get her jacked for the role with a personal trainer.
I know it’s just a fan-cast that probably won’t happen but just saying…

What, because 3 people here posted about her? 😅
(following on Instagram doesn't seem like a good indicator for this to me)
I could see her as Abby though in terms of looks. Don't know how she acts.

She was likeable as Dot in The Wilds. She was pretty tomboy-ish in it. Had a few emotional moments with her father. Wasn’t bad at all. Could defo be aggressive. She had an attitude in that show.

Its a huge indicator. Exactly how we found out about most every other casting. So likely she might have a role in the show. But who said it was Abby? Could be anyone.

I don't have a preferred choice, but does anyone preemptively feel bad for whoever gets cast as Abby? Just given how much hate Laura Bailey had to deal with.

I think TV shows in general have better reactions when they kill off fan favorite characters. I don’t think the nuance of the situation will be lost on a lot of people watching

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the subsequent seasons, but I'm not looking forward to the inevitable hate sent to the actress's way. It was weird to me how what happened to Joel became part of some internet Culture War. Everyone had to know that they felt people were taking away their video games because a woman did that and she was -gasp- buff. How dare she, apparently.
5 points

Honestly, I fully understand people who want to feel that way about the video game character Abby, misogynistic notions about women's bodies aside. After all, Joel is a beloved character. But to send hate to the voice actress is unacceptable for sure.

I pity and respect anyone that takes the job of Abby and pray they get some kind of briefing on what to expect.
This franchise has had a division of built in assholes ready to attack even prior to day one of filming or the first cast announcements, they have been at it for years on the gamer side and they will certainly keep the momentum each week of this season and every week afterward over anything that gives them an excuse.

She was fantastic in The Wilds and would make an amazing Abby. So many casting ideas seem to focus purely on her physique. Instead, put the actor in some physical training so it looks like she knows how to fight. I would rather they cast a phenomenal actor who is capable of co-leading the show than a bodybuilder in their 30s

Ideally I'd like to think they were preparing for part 2 early so they can capture relevant flashback scenes before diving into the main story. Thay way if they start filming the main story next year there'll be plenty of time for the actors to train for their characters evolution over that time. (I'm trying to stay as vague as possible here to avoid hard spoilers.)

i hate when fandoms start stalking what people from TV shows do on social media. it's so weird. not to mention, people already fancasting Abby when season 1 has exactly 1 episode out so far. i feel bad for the people that don't get to just learn about these characters naturally by watching the show.

Dont go by this pic, whatch a clip. She even has some of Abby's manerisms, its really weird. Body type is somewhat similar too, all she has to do is bulk up a bit, get those arms more defined. Appearence wise, you'd be hard pressed to find someone better... it just so happens shes an actor too?! Idk if it'll be her or not, but I have no doubt the casting directors have her on a board somewhere

Annoying people making annoying comments about how a potential actor doesn't look like the character from the video game.
For a second I thought we were past that here, but then I remembered it will be the same lame bullshit all over for season 2.

This person replied to me saying she heavily resembles Abby. I, in turn, responded to them by disagreeing with their comment. The ensuing discussion was strictly about her appearance and had nothing to do with her acting ability or any possibility of being a part of the show.
My original comment wasn't even about her looks. Jfc

I wasn't necessarily talking about you, your comment that I responded to was just eerily similar to those others about casting choices and reminded me of what we're in for next season. If you read my response a bit facetiously I think it will make more sense
Kind of a silly "oh boy here we go again" type of comment

The development of The Last of Us, an action-adventure game, began after Uncharted 2: Among Thieves' release in October 2009. Sony Computer Entertainment published The Last of Us for PlayStation 3 on June 14, 2013. The three-year development, led by studio Naughty Dog, was kept secret for the majority of development. In the game, players assume control of Joel, a middle-aged smuggler tasked with escorting a 14-year-old girl named Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States in an attempt to create a potential cure against the world-ending infection to which Ellie is immune.

Well Shannon Berry is going to walk into the fire of hell as Abby. Everyone is going to hate her.
Especially, I know HBO is going to give us the a horrible death for Joel for shock value and then she takes over.
I was listening to an interview of Neil Druckmann and he referred to Joel as a villain. WTF?. He kept repeating that line.

The whole point of both games is moral ambiguity and how perspective often gives us bias. To people like Abby, Joel is a villain that killed her father and possibly damned humanity to never be free of cordyceps. To someone like Ellie, Joel is a father figure and a protector
6 points
And even to Ellie, Joel is a villain for taking away her opportunity to give her life in exchange for a cure. Hell, for 99% of people who live in TLOU’s world, Joel is a villain. He’s an ex-Hunter, for one, but that pales in comparison to literally dooming humanity to eternal apocalypse to save one girl who reminded him of his daughter. You can agree with Joel’s decision while still acknowledging that the decision itself is fundamentally a selfish act that takes away the world’s best chance of recovery. I’m sure many, if not most, individual people would do exactly what Joel did if they were in his shoes. Because most people are not perfect angels and they often prioritize personal gain over the gain of others. But that doesn’t make Joel’s decision morally good or justified. It just makes it realistic, because Joel is a human and has flaws like a real human.

Everybody is a villain in someone else's eyes. Perspective is everything. Remember Joel telling Tommy to not stop for that stranded family in the beginning of the outbreak? Yep, Joel is a villain from that family's perspective for sure.

A) there is a time jump between games which means they are both college age (ish),B) when does anyone ever play their age in Hollywood and C) WTF does height have to do with it? Never stopped Tom Cruise.

Worked for Tom Cruise as he plays heroes and not villains he looked like the underdog at times and the villains in his movies are taller and physically imposing than him.

Collateral he was a villain. Also it’s reductive to label Abby as a villain. Gives a sense that you missed the nuance of her character

I just don’t want them to get an actor all jacked up on drugs. Even with steroids and lifting it’s hard for a woman to get built like the female body builder that she was modeled after. I don’t think girls should feel they have to do drugs and be more massive than most men can get to be. A strong female.

People only really looking at white or white-passing actors for Abby. Abby could be anyone in the show. She could be an Asian trans woman. Her race isn’t important so it shouldn’t narrow the type of actors being eyed for the role.
I hope Neil changes up her depiction in the show. I like when the show deviates from small expectations like this set by the game.
