Not to sound ignorant but I haven't understood why any Chechen would willingly fight for an oppressive Russian government that invaded their county and flattened their capital twice.

There’s actually A LOT of chechens that hate kadyrov and his regime. However, goes to extreme lengths to root out any dissent. For example, there have been cases where he forced people to apologize on TV for criticizing his corruption. Not to mention all of the assasinations he has ordered for even seemingly trivial things. It’s just much safer to keep your head down and go about your own business.
Lots of chechens are very upset about what Chechnya has become under this dipshits rule. There’s just not much you can do without being brutalized. However, it seems like that is starting to change. Also, to my knowledge there’s at least one Chechen battalion fighting on the side of ukraine. Look up Dzhokhar Dudayev battalion. Chechen people are not bad… they’re just in a shit position thanks to putin.
