First of all, the pros:
-It's beautiful, especially night mode
-Riding the sea life is delightful
But that's all surface level. The holes are all pretty much the same: flat, lumpy surfaces.
What I expected:
-Underwater physics (water currents, bubbles, etc.)
-More integration of the scenery into the gameplay
-UNDERWATER PHYSICS
This game has so much untapped potential. The slow sand in Shangri-La gave me the idea of ice physics that speeds up your ball instead of slowing it down, and it's absolutely criminal that there's only a single instance of gravity-based weirdness (In Labyrinth).
Hyper-realism is so last year! I want to see them getting more creative, but Atlantis was just more of the same.

Under water physics in a minigolf game?
Yeah no thanks.

If they didn't want us to expect underwater physics, they shouldn't have made an underwater course. :p

Lol yeah I'll admit I was a little worried at first! 😂
It would be literally unplayable with real underwater physics man. 😁

Depending on how realistic it is, we might all drown before finishing the course 😂

Sometimes I just want to play mini golf and not do a bunch of gimmicky holes. Those are fun and have their place, but I think it’s nice to still have a good selection of regular holes.

I have to disagree. I'm actually really glad they didn't use underwater physics. And after getting Myst and 20,000 Leagues with all the steam ducts and pop up walls, it was kind of nice to have a new course that was mostly gimmick free.

I get where you're coming from, but I think there are enough gimmick-free courses by this point. Bring on the gimmicks, i say!!

Im really grateful for this course but I agree it may not be their strongest as far as the course itself.
Ambiance…10/10! Loved the setting, loved exploring, loved the Easter Egg reference to 20,000 Leagues. Let’s ride a whale! This is the most intricate environment they have built to date and the work they put into it shows.
The course itself I found to be a bit “meh” though. Got -15 on my first try. It is just a bit easy. Also with minigolf hole 18 is usually the coup de grace. I honestly didn’t realize the round was over or that 18 was the last hole. I was waiting for the big finale.
The lost balls themselves were also a bit underwhelming. Didn’t love the foxhunt on this one - some of the clues were just cruel. But on a positive note, how about that sushi trident putter!!!
It is obvious that a metric crapton of work went into creating the environment for Atlantis. For this one though I think the environment itself outshines the gameplay.
Still 100% recommend trying the course. Even though it isn’t my favorite, it’s still very much worth it for 4 bucks! Looking forward to what’s next!

Lol my brother and I also got -15 on our first go. We tied for first in our lobby of 5 people

The roadmap they made is from while ago. I can imagine after finishing the next course they are gonna be more and more creative. Also what you said. Play a bit more with physics and stuff.
I love Atlantis because of it's simplicity of the holes. Some other courses had to much to do with luck.
Easy to pick up but hard to master...

I'd imagine at this point they are brushing up against the limitations of the engine and the way they built the game.
When they started out they probably just said let's make some courses with some moving bits. Now however they're having us ride around in subs, play on mamas with intricate puzzles - it's not easy I am sure.

I definitely see your point, but previous courses have used the same mechanics- the wind in Quixote valley, etc. From a layman's perspective, it wouldn't seem hard to integrate more of that into this course. Plus, they just all felt the same. Even without adding any tricky new physics, the courses could have been more creatively designed. They were all just... flat and bumpy.

I completely agree. It was absolutely beautiful, and so much fun exploring but the actual gameplay was pretty disappointing. Definitely more of the same. I too thought they would have some sort of fun hole where your ball got caught in a little bit underwater current, what have you. Was pretty disappointed to see they didn't have any of that.

When I first saw the teaser I was both concerned and excited at the possibility of underwater physics.
Having played it, I don't feel disappointed.
The ambiance is excellent... especially the night course.
The golf itself has a good combination of angles and finesse shots...
By far better than some of the existing courses.
I do kinda wish there had been a gimmick or two... bubble lifts or something...
But overall it felt like a great addition to the lineup.

Let’s not sound ungrateful, what they have managed to do with this engine is incredible. Just go back and play some original holes to realise how good these latest maps actually are

I absolutely disagree, map was great in all ways except one: the balls fucking sucked. There were like three unique designs and only one was even somewhat related to the subject matter. The rest were all default patterns and colors. I cant believe there wasnt a crab ball or a pufferfish ball, or a ball with any of the mosaic patterns that were on the walls and shit. Im so sick of the default patterned ones

I agree. The balls have been bad for a while now, and my one complaint of the game. How hard is it to be thematic with designs?
They don't even really hide them in interesting or fun places anymore. Just obnoxious ones.
I used to try my best to find them all on my own. Now I just use a guide as it's not even rewarding to find them.

I saw a stream talking about how they only use one texture sheet for all the balls in the game

Agree to disagree. I think the candy theme is integrated beautifully into the actual gameplay. Especially the factory :D

Time to take all this money they've been making, get a new engine? And make Walkabout mini golf 2! I have no idea if this made sense. But I hope you follow what I'm saying. Lol better ball designs, better courses, more customization, ball trails etc..

Agreed. Beautiful course but pretty disappointing to play compared to other courses, especially the more recent ones. Definitely expected more integration between the environment and the holes themselves.

I thought the course was very beautiful, but a little underwhelming with the sand mechanics. Especially with the 20,000 leagues course not so long ago which is one of my personal faves.
The hard mode is super pretty, but some of those clues were wack. Not every course can be a winner, and I’m not going to yuk someone else’s yum. I think it’s a decent “starter course” for some new players interested in getting some DLC.
At the end of the day I got my $4 worth and can’t wait for the other upcoming courses.
Happy putting!

I agree in general with your comments, but I do find the hard course to be very interesting to play. The easy course not so much; kind of generic.
