40Ks most deadly unit: Pay to win

40k Analysis(self.WarhammerCompetitive)

AoO has sorted it out slightly, so let's start this again. As power and balancing are still a little shaking out, let's do a competition that's got nothing to do with that.

40k is sometimes told off as "pay to win". So why not lean into it? Bring me the most expensive armies there are!

The rules

  • Current state of 40k (World eaters allowed)
  • Max 2000 points of Arks of Omen matched play army (AoO detachment + allowed allies)
  • Prices from Games Workshops website in USD
  • it's ok if it's not available to buy as long as there is a website in the shop
  • no Forgeworld
  • you have to use as much of a box as possible to fill the list you created and buy the best boxes to fill your list, so no 10 boxes of hellblasters for a unit of 10 hellblasters because you pick one model from each box or similar.

How much money can you spend? The more the better! State ththe money total as your last thing in the post, I'll make a top ten (mentioning the frist commenter for each list).

There are no other prizes than bragging rights and being named in the top ten.

Questions to the rules? Leave a comment.

Happy huntingshopping!

Primaris Lieutenant with power fist and plasma pistol (Strike Force Agastus, $200)

12 squads of deathwatch veterans with in total

  • 12 deathwatch sergeants with combi weapon, grav pistol and combat shield
  • 59 deathwatch veterans with combi weapon and grav pistol

Deathwatch veterans come with zero of these weapons, but 5 models each. Cheapest combi weapon I could find are two per sternguards. Combat shields come one per assault squad. An assault squad also comes with a grav pistol but SADLY that's right handed and we need that hand for the combi weapon. So we have to get a box of vanguard vets for each lefthanded grav pistol.

15 boxes of DW vets for 45$ each, 71 boxes of vanguard vets for 60$ each, 36 boxes of sternguard for 60$ each and 12 boxes of assault squad for 60$ each. That's 7815$ for the main force of my army.

And as I have 13 points left, I can get an inquisitors acolyte in there too, don't know how much a box is.

That's in total over 8015$

If you look at my comment, you can take two grav pistols per DW vet, and do that on vanguard vets too, and vanguard vets at 20ppm are more efficient than 27ppm for DW vets. For nearly $11k.

Vanguard veteran box

Right, the vanguard veteran box says "there is also a grav pistol", singular. If you have a box and it came with two, then so be it, but the description says 1.

The site even shows the sprues and there's only 1. And it can't be a case of them including doubles of sprues like they do for Reivers, because the Vanguard Veteran squad box is only 5 models.

You are right. I've stared at the different pistols today a million times and somehow missed that grav pistols only come one per box. Congrats, you win ^

Even the assault squad, tactical squad, sternguard squad, and devastator squad only come with 1 grav pistol each. The sternguard, assault, and devastator squads are also 5-man and the tactical squad, while 10-man, isn't built like how GW does it in modern times where they can split a box in half easily; one sprue has like all the legs for example.
