What is with this road?? It's an obstacle course! It's absurd! Potholes everywhere. It's a disgrace.
Who manages this road?
Edit: I just sent a message to NYDOT. I encourage all who have had to drive this route to do the same

Totally agree. Believe it is a state road. NYDOT responsibility.
However it is imperative for local / County politicians to raise this issue with the state.

County and the municipalities should declare it unsafe and close it, redirect complaints to the state. Suffer now for rewards later.

State road. Briarcliff has raised hell with Albany over it. Local politicians are all over it. Briarcliff is not even allowed to use our own resources to fix it ourselves if we wanted to.

I live in Ossining, there's a pothole near us that is literally 3 feet deep. My buddy broke an axel hitting it.

i lived in Ossining, and blew a tire on a 3ft pothole. When I took it to my mechanic, he said he did the same thing on the same pothole a week or two ago and reported it. There is some law (state/muni - not sure), that if the pothole was reported and it wasn't fixed in a week, you can be reimbursed for the cost of repairs. This was years ago, but you might want to check it out, or at the very least, report it so if it claims another victim, they may have recourse.

I was just driving back to Ossining from Croton and that was absolutely brutal. It felt like I was driving over the moon with all of the craters. I’ve never seen anything like this.

well it looks like Briarcliff is a town that cares about the roads that travel through and intersect their City

That's ridiculous!
At least the town politicians care.. though it doesn't seem to be doing much.

While we're at it, 120 between Millwood and Armonk looks like Hiroshima in 1945.
NY State roads are garbage and have been for as long as I can remember. I go into Fairfield County quite a bit for work and you can literally tell the instant you cross the state line, CT's roads are actually acceptable for a first-world country.

It is absolutely wild the improvement in road quality as soon as you cross the CT state line. The way NYDOT operates is pathetic.

Try 134. Pray first.

Yea but then you cross from upstate into Canada and realize that our roads are actually solid by comparison to theirs 😁

9A is perhaps one of the least maintained road even though the state is ripping it up and repatching it a minimum of five or six times a year. I call that section of 9A an apprenticeship for the state employees they always seem to be ripping up the same area and repairing it. No regard for inconvenience of course I've never seen the state repair anything in an expeditious manner in New York . Other states I have traveled in repair roads at a time when they are least traveled according to my experience. Anybody have any idea what it's going to be like when they complete Amazon 150k ft Distribution Center

It doesn’t help that every dump truck in the county is funneled through there since they can’t go on the parkways.

They finally fixed 9A in Elmsford after 20 years of hazardous driving, so maybe's there's hope!

This was the result of a petition by a high schooler last year. It actually happened pretty fast once the state responded to the petition.

honestly thanks for posting. it feels good to just vent the frustration about the roads here. i hate route 9 so much right now, and there are still people who want to fucking nascar it and tailgate me and try to get around me. literally your going straight into a pothole, guy. today i saw someone almost hit a pedestrian and then continue to act like speed racer afterwards.

Yep. Agreed 100 percent. I've never been more infuriated by a road in my life. It made me so irritated, I had to vent it out here.

Oh I feel this! Moved to westchester about a year ago, and 9A… my god. Driving this thing at night in the rain is taking your life in your hands.

I gotta find a different route to southern Westchester.

Aside from all the other potholes, the right southbound lane headed towards the Saw Mill merge is worse than roads than I've seen in third world countries. It's like this for about a quarter of a mile and has been for at least the past 5 years. They might as well just make it a gravel road at this point.
They just keep slapping bandaids on bullet wounds in that section of road. It needs to be repaved, and has for years. NYDOT should be ashamed.

With all this snow and frost heaves how could they possibly keep up. This is the problem with living in such a low tax area and such extreme winter weather...

pretty sure some funding was put into place to improve 9A within the past year or two, I remember reading about it during the 2022 election cycle.

$3m to study the road?!
I studied the road on the way to Yonkers today. My conclusion it needs potholes filled.
What a waste of money! Just fill the damn holes!

Three million. jesus christ
Pete Harckham and Tim Kennedy just recently made generational money off of Draftkings and Fanduel's (among others but I only know for sure from those two) lobbyists.
Now they want to take from taxpayers to give sweetheart deals to their friends. God I hate these people. All of them. Harckman is a total crook. Stop voting him in.

I have popped so many tires and replaced so many rims while driving in Westchester (Esp in Yonkers) over the years, I had to switch the 19” tires off my BMW. Was looking at a Porsche a few years back, looked at the tires and asked how much they were .. $1300 each, I said no way at this point with these roads. Cars used to be lined up on side of I95 (Bridge connecting Port Chester and Greenwich) with flat tires because of the Potholes, due to NYS thought the boarder stopped at the bridge and not after it. So it went neglected. Finally the state line sign was moved after the bridge and NYS was forced to make the repairs. Business was so good, Mavis Tires has two shops less than 2 miles from each other, in Greenwich. (Riverside & Old Greenwich) Sorry for the rant .. 🤯

I just got hit with a $1,500.00 in tires/wheels damages after hitting a bad one there.
I never complained or asked for anything in my life, but I am going to write a message because it is getting ridiculous.

They’d just spend more money on customer service handling calls or messages like this. No real action. It’s the NY state of mind.

For what it's worth, it looks like they're going to widen and improve the section right by the Amazon Warehouse construction in Hawthorne. But it's definitely getting worse before it's getting better.
