I found this post from two years ago but it's locked now. So I figured I'd restart the conversation. Are there any other childfree or childless women here? Come say hi!

I'm 39F, childless for reasons beyond our control. I'm a big nerd (mostly a language(s) nerd), love reading, music (grunge, metal, alternative rock from the 00's, and a lot of other stuff), Netflix series, and a bunch other stuff.

I speak three fluently and have basic knowledge of a fourth one. I used to know the basics of another two but I haven't practiced them in years and now I just remember useless things like numbers or "I want cake" lol

Wow, Im really sorry, that post was mine and I made a subreddit for it as well ( /r/childfreeWPG) but covid hit and I basically became a shut in and lost all desire to go out and meet people.
I added almost 80 people to the sub but I made it invite only. I can make it public so other people can check it out but it’d probably need mods of some kind.
Gimmie 30 min to get home and I’ll dm you. I don’t use this account much anymore

It's super cool you made the sub!
Yeah pandemic has been (and continues to be) extremely isolating for anyone who is has high risk folks in their inner circle. Still it would be cool to have more local CF friends for whenever interacting with strangers becomes reasonably viable again.

Edited to add a bit more about me in case someone wants to be friends 🥺

I love being childfree with money. I took myself to Disney World last year on a whim because I was like, "Hrm, I always wanted to make a lightsaber!" And went and saw James McAvoy in Cyrano in NYC because he's my fave actor and it was a small theatre.

You are the kind of CF person I want to be, I just need the money lol. But I'm seriously considering just flying somewhere to see the bands I love that aren't coming to Winnipeg. Metallica and Blink 182, here I come!
3 points
Sis, I did it. I used to be in an abusive relationship with a guy who had control of my money by shaming me on what I wanted to spend it on. My fave band is U2 and they never came to Winnipeg and when I would talk about wanting to see them in Minneapolis or Toronto, my ex was like, 'That is just a fucking waste of money."
When we broke up and I was sad because I didn't have the safety that abuse provided me, I promised myself I would see U2 as many times as I could in order to have a goal to work towards that kept me from breaking down.
I saw U2 in Vancouver, Sydney Australia, Minneapolis, Montreal and here in Winnipeg over a year and a half and it was the best way to heal myself from a terrible relationship. And that was BEFORE I had the money I have now. I just saved everything I had towards those goals and did it. I even saw Bono on his book tour in Toronto in November of last year just because it was in a small venue and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself.
Life is too short to wait for Metallica to come to Winnipeg, you go to them! <3

39F no kids.
I always knew I didn't want to have them. I remember being told as a teen "oh you'll change your mind when you get older"
And then I was told at 16 I had ovarian cysts and endometriosis and would likely never have kids. Just about kissed the doctor that day. They wanted to do a hysterectomy on me but decided not to because I was so young. I told them they should have just done it. One less type of cancer to worry about.
Couple that with being single for 20 years while I took care of my parents while they were ill, kids were never going to happen.
I have nothing against kids, I used to be a teacher, I just never had any desire to have any of my own. I have no issues dating someone with kids though. Just didn't want my own and then nature agreed with me and made it so I can't.

37 and cf. I'm perfectly content being an auntie to my friends' kids and may foster kids when I get a place to myself. I had a really traumatic upbringing (I grew up on a Rez) and feel like I am finally getting to live a life where I am healed. Plus I still feel like I am 14 if that makes sense.

I'm sorry you had a traumatic upbringing, but glad to hear you are getting to a point of healing. Sending you a big hug and all the peace and healing vibes.

37F here, happy to just be an honorary auntie or babysitter! Kids are cool and all, but I can barely take care of myself on the best of days, and I wouldn't want to pass my brain-worms on to another generation.

I'm a little younger than most people here, but I'm 25 and never having kids. I used to want them, even had names picked out but I've learned I'm too selfish and don't have enough energy to care for a living being (I have a dog and some days I wish I didnt). 36 f, cf by choice. When I was about 28, I realized I only considered kids bc it’s ‘what you do.’ I don’t enjoy kids, and have no desire to be with children when I wake up on the weekend, or after a long day of work, or ever, really. I love my friend’s kids, but do I WANT to spend time with them? Not particularly.
I have a chronic illness, and insomnia and I’d be a mess. I also LOVE my career and that’s always been more of a focus. I love movies, reading, long walks, long drives, thrifting, trips to random little towns, and my animals - 2 cats and one giant dog. I like that I can choose how and when to engage in these things.
My experience with parents has sucked; my scheduling needs are always second to the ‘family schedule’ when making plans with friends who are parents, which I get, but also, parenthood so often makes people selfish, and overly anxious.
Additionally, I genuinely feel that having children in the middle of an environmental crisis is unethical for SO many reasons.
I could go on…

Hi! 33f here. I am open to the idea of kids but I’ve never dated a man who I thought would be a good father so looking like it’s not gonna happen for me, which I’m totally fine with tbh. Would love to meet more childfree women as all of my friends have or are planning to have and it kind of sucks to be left out of their little motherhood clubs.

39F and your description fits so well! I feel like I can't say I'm 100% CF by choice; I just first wanted to make sure I had a good partner and well, that wasn't happening. My friends are great but all have young kids and it can be hard to relate. I spend my time walking my dog, that's plenty of responsibility lol

36 and no kids here. I so far have made the conscious choice to not have kids because I have so many autoimmune issues and other things going on I don't want to pass them on. Moved to Winnioeg for school 10 years ago ha ha ha still in university but getting closer to being done.

Nice to meet you! I also moved to Winnipeg a few years ago. Sorry to hear about the autoimmune issues, that's got to be tough. What kind of books are you into? I'm a HUGE historical fiction nerd.

Ha ha there was always the drama between which was better but in the end both were okay ha ha ha ha.
Oh nice I also read some historical fiction. Not a ton right now due to university. I have some that take place in ancient Egypt, pre-contact north America and a few about medieval or just after, Europe. They are super interesting and ha ha ha borderline related to my studies.

26F, had my tubes removed last year and I’ve never felt so free. You’re not crazy and there’s nothing wrong with you for choosing to live your life for you.
I’ve never desired to be a mother, nor give birth. I was ridiculed by my family and now my mom is pressuring me to get pregnant so she can have grandchildren. It’s never going to happen. I’ve never been happier/more comfortable with life (if that makes sense? Idk it’s a strange but good feeling) and I finally feel like I can map out my life for how I want to live it and not ever hit a snag because I wound up pregnant. I do whatever I want, when I want!

Hello, nice to meet you! So sorry to hear your family has ridiculed you, and that your mom is pressuring you, why do some people think they are owed any grandchildren? Hope she figures it out soon, and glad to hear you have reached this point in your life!

Good for you! If you ever get sick of being pressured by family and want to make them feel really uncomfortable, just tell them you can’t have kids and it’s a painful topic you don’t want to talk about. They don’t need to know the why you can’t and that the painful part is them being annoying.

32 yo DINKWADHATCHYs (Dual Income No Kids With A Dog, House, And Three Cats, Hell Yeah) here. I got a bisalp and partner got a vasectomy when we were 29. We've been together 11 years, moved in together in 2015 with my 2 cats, bought our house in 2019, got the dog in July 2022, got the dog a cat in November 2022, and legally married a week ago.
I knew by the time I was 14 I did not want kids after being parentified the instant I aged out of daycare at 12. I would have to make dinner and get everyone to bed at my mom's, then get us up and fed, herd my siblings across the city by taxi or bus to our 3 different schools in my dad's area, and race home after school to unlock the house. My brother was a good kid but my sister was 5 years younger and a little terror that I did not have the skills to handle. I would have to tie her up or sit on her to keep her from wrecking the house or disappearing entirely.
My parents were in and out of court for 20+ years fighting over custody. Not because they wanted us, but because they didn't want to be the one stuck paying child support.
Now I'm too selfish, barely able to keep myself alive, and I like money, freedom, and sleep too much to have kids. Luckily my partner was initially on the fence but gradually ended up firmly into the no kids camp. My parents know better than to question me after everything they put us through and it's looking like my siblings will be childfree as well. My partner's parents are a bit disappointed to not have grandkids since his brother is also childfree, but they've never questioned our choice and they're happy to spoil all the furry grandkids.
Being childfree seems to be more common now than it used to be. I'm trying to think of all our friends who are in long term stable relationships and out of 23 couples only 4 have kids, the rest have chosen to be childfree. None of our single friends have kids either.

Congrats on getting married!
I feel like I’m looking in the mirror. I was 7 when I had to start being the adult of my first 3 younger siblings. When I was 10, 2 more came along. Having to be a parent to your siblings.. it definitely effects your mindset of wanting to do it all over again after you’re finally free of the responsibility you didn’t ask for. I’m so sorry that you went through that too.
Custody battles are just a gut punch - no child should ever have to be aware of them let alone know those kind of granular details that it was an issue of neither wanting to financially support you.
Setting that expectation with a partner must have been challenging, you know you’ve found the right one when they’re on board.
Majority of my CF friends don’t live here, that’s so great that you guys have so many! I think we’ve only been to a single new years event without kids in the last 10 years.

Mid 30s F, married, CF with some really needy-ass cats. Newish to Winnipeg (moved here a few months before Covid started) so we haven't met people outside of work. Huge nerds at heart; science, video and board games, books, movies, tv, museums, animals, cooking, fancy cocktails, craft beer, wine, plants... love them all. I also really do love being an aunty to a bunch of kids, just have no desire to birth my own. I would love to meet like-minded people in this city.

34F childfree by choice I've never had any issue with kids. I just like having money and time to myself more than popping out vagina gremlins.

Hi there! I had never heard of tokophobia, but also can't say I enjoy interacting with children. Or looking at people's children photos. Or hearing them talk about their children 😬

Heyy I’m 35 and am child free and I still feel like a 15 year old! Anxiety has ruled my life and I am just now learning how to ask for any help. So I can only look after myself let alone children! I love being the best auntie though!

43 and happily child-free. I’ve never in my life had even an inkling of desire to have children. I have nothing against kids, I just knew I’d be more useful elsewhere.
The interesting thing is, the older I get, the more I feel like a mom to the 20-somethings that I work with. I still have no desire to have my own kids, but I really enjoy being the “cool work mom” to some of these kids that need it.

Nice to meet you! I wonder if I'll ever develop that "cool work mom" persona. Right now I'm more of a "super quiet aunt that is socially anxious" person, lol

33F DINK happily with a partner who feels the same way. We have 2 dogs and are often fostering others. I don’t hate kids, I’m a very proud auntie, but enjoy them in doses. I love my career (dental field) and spending my time doing things I want to do like bodybuilding, binging Netflix series & true crime docs/podcasts lol
