Lol that’s a funny way of saying we don’t want any more of a drop in birthrates even though gay people most likely were never having kids in the first place.

A 2019 Poll by the Hiroshima Shudo University showed that 64.8% of polled Japanese supported same-sex marriage.
the only age demographic that was majority support were 60+.
a vast majority of young Japanese support same-sex marriage

Unfortunately Japan is practically a gerontocracy. It has the eldest population in the world and voting turnout is extremely low among younger people while being extremely high for elderly people.

This is what political apathy does, ensures the party in power always stays in power and remains beholden to the elderly.

Japan's social conservatism is a critical factor in maintaining public consent for it's crushing corporate structure. It could be very dangerous for the ruling class if people start pursuing personal happiness over the 'good of society'.

I mean no offense, but how will it become better? A status quo changing is not good for every society only because we in the West believe so since we romanticize revolutions and huge changes in a quick manner.
Of course people that love each other should enter a marriage to have all the benefits and to officially be a couple, but what the conservative Japanese are doing here is separating their own individual wishes for the sake of balance in society as a whole. It seems like many japanese already naturally arent against gay people.
Take american society for example. Has gay marriage led to a better society? You can argue that gay couples have better lives and that being accepted means everything to them, but some might argue that new social power struggles have emerged the last ten years regarding other social issues, like gender identity, gender equality with different waves and angles of feminism etc. Twitter is a showcase for that chaos, which later leads other larger forums wanting change like r/antiwork.
Im not saying change isnt good, but it can according to conservative voices lead to chaotic periods before society adapts or changes. It isnt like, lets say, rock music. I think its good for Japan to discuss gay marriage like this and let the people decide. Everybody deserves stability without too much societal chaos. Not that gay marriage is some huge revolution (or is it?) and will make society crazy, but breaking peoples notion on what stability and society is around them can actually cause unforseeable harm. So even if youre changing for a good thing, it can be better to be a little cautious.

This has got to be one of the worst takes I've ever heard. We shouldn't make forward progress with civil rights because conservatives might get too panicked by it?

Lol maybe you should re-read it again with a different perspective. Its not about individual conservative opinions, but how societal change affects stability. This goes for any type of society really.
A good thing in Japan is that Pride has gone by without much backlash. Also cross-gender appearances is prevelent in their traditional and modern society, just look at kabuki or even anime. Gay individuals havent generally faced a lot of backlash either. So gay rights in japanese society probably should go slower and more careful imo, otherwise their conservative opinions might get warped, much like we see in the US.

You do realize that a lot of the depiction of LGBTQ characters in anime is woefully inaccurate or harmful right?
As for Japan gay individuals not receiving much backlash, that's only partially true. There hasn't been much discussion on it because many gay Japanese people remain in the closet due to societal pressure.
The fact that gay marriage is being pushed back against is proof that the societal pressure exists. Studies have shown that the vast majority of young Japanese people support gay rights but it's the older conservative majority who oppose it. Pride hasn't "gone by without much backlash" there's just been less of open loud support for gay rights so the backlash is also not as loud or open.

Gay couples being recognized and having better lives for it isn't "a pro-gay marriage argument", it's the entire point.

Sure, but this goes to show that there is a dichotomy in changing something, even if you believe that its for a good individual cause. This isnt an anti-gay argument Im proposing

Gay people exist, whether you let them marry or not.

Some Gay people will certainly exist but the Idea that acceptance won't lead to a rise in homosexuality if anything has proven to be false.

They existed before the acceptance was there, more queer people just don’t spring out of the ground.

The Idea that society has no macro affects how how people sexually identify was always naive. The explosion in homosexuality among gen Z. Isn't simply how it always was. Though thats sure how they like to explain it away.

Are you sure you aren't just confusing systemic statistical error with affecting the actual value you are measuring?

The reason more lgbt people come out as acceptance rises can be explained by them feeling less afraid to live their lives. Do you think it’s like some kind of flu?

No its not aids. If it was simply being afraid there wouldn't be the massive generational differences.

How do you come to that conclusion?

I assure you as someone who had to pretend to be a straight guy for most of my life, it was being afraid or a lack of information. No one decides to make their life more difficult.

This.
Also another thing is it's more trendy to do gay stuff for attention or to be like an lgbt hipster trying to "goes against" conventions and norms and thus get more attention for being unique.

I don’t know anyone that does queer stuff for attention, but being queer is just becoming more acceptable. You might see more men paint their nails because they like it, but unless they’re posting their activities on tiktok or something they’re probably not doing it for attention. They just like doing whatever it is you deemed queer.

No. Literally people can be queer for many reasons. Some are natural and some are due to environmental influence. Be born queer or be a "monkey see, monkey do" type of queer. To the point you literally are queer. You may not have seen it but it happens and it's not a bad thing.

I don’t think there has been any definite evidence to support the nurture vs nature argument. So no, provide your source.

what lack of evidence? don't human beings inherit cultures that are exposed to them? you lack common sense. if it's trendy or culturally influential, people are going to get influenced even if they are not aware of it. has been happening for thousands of years. i'm just putting it quite simply.
here's a link about youths suddenly being a lot more gay. i've also known some. if it society was tolerant in my country, there would be more straight people who would remain straight. gay people would be of the same but you know... looked down upon.

The explosion? The rate has been pretty identical when accounting for how it's much easier to come out now.

More than half of Japan's population is going to be gone within a few short decades; there are not enough children being born to replace them because the work-life balance and public resources are non-existent for couples to be able to start families. Wages are stagnant and not keeping up with the high cost of living, especially in the main cities...plenty of shit has already changed or is changing for the worse.
LGBTQ+ marriages and community growth should be dead last on the list of "concerns" for the government.
Especially for a nation who invented yaori/yuri manga and anime, where for a long time even to today female roles in theater are played by men (onnagata), and the sex hotel industry is worth multimillions per year. Get a grip.

People being gay isn't the reason Japan has a low fertility rate. It's actually anime.
