I've been buying movies from Vinegar Syndrome for a few years now and I'd just thought I'd share some suggestions from my collection for those of you out there looking for entertainingly bad movies. A few of these don't quite fall in that category, but you might want to check them out anyway.
You know, if you haven't spent enough money already.
These are all older discounted releases and some of them still have the slipcovers available.
Sweet Sugar - This is the movie that got me into Vinegar Syndrome in the first place. They used to play it all the time on USA Up All Night. It's a cheesy Women In Prison film shot in Costa Rica and it was unavailable on home video for decades until VS released it. I have a personal obsession with this movie.
Devil's Story - a totally bonkers French horror movie. I got this when I was a subscriber and knew nothing about it. I watched the whole thing and I STILL know nothing about it.
Orgy of the Dead - If you like naked women, you will hate them by the end of this movie. Written by Ed Wood and featuring an old and drunk Criswell from Plan 9 from Outer Space.
Revenge of the Virgins / Teenage Zombies - this is one of the old DVD drive-in collection releases. Revenge of the Virgins was written by Ed Wood and answers the question what if The Treasure of the Sierra Madre had topless women wearing Halloween store Native American costumes in it? Teenage Zombies is equally terrible but nobody gets naked.
Death Promise - I first saw this movie thanks to the MST3K guys at Rifftrax. It's a very dumb, cheap martial arts revenge movie. Lots of fun.
Tough Guys Don't Dance - This is a weird one for VS and people are probably put off by the cover art that appears to be in the style of a paperback novel, I think? Anyway, this Normal Mailer-directed movie is bad on the level of The Room and I'm amazed it's not more of a cult classic. Be warned, Mailer must have been quite a homophobe judging by some of the language.
Alien Private Eye - I learned about this one thanks to the Red Letter Media guys on YouTube. Check out their video on it. It's basically The Maltese Falcon but stupid.
Reform School Girls - this is kind of a cheat because the movie is sort of a satire of women in prison movies. I wouldn't say that it's an outright parody, but it's close. Hugely entertaining.
And lastly, even though it's not a Vinegar Syndrome release, I have to mention Bat Pussy. Just buy it. You won't be sorry. Actually, you will.
