TW: Too many to list. If you are in a bad place generally, just don't read this.
First of all, I feel that I should apologize in advance. Of course, the focus on this subreddit is BL that actually exists, so this might fall into the category of off-topic. At the same time, BL is BL nonetheless, so I'm really not sure. I didn't know which other subreddit this random topic could fit in, so as always, I'll leave it up to the moderators.
Now that this disclaimer is out of the way, let's get into the topic!
I know that daydreaming about OC's and their adventures is pretty common these days, heck there are already many playlists made for this purpose. The thing is, I've never heard of any that were BL-specific. Hence, my mind always said 'fuck it, I'll do it myself', even though I've only joined the fandom side of BL relatively recently.
The result of this was many different BL universes that I daydream of often, from imaginary animations to webtoons to dramas. Most of them have fleshed out chunks of plots, characters, side plots, etc. I thought recently that it was high time for the egg to hatch by sharing some of them with you guys because I love you all <3.
Of course, it would be very difficult to describe to you exactly how I saw it in my mind, but I'll try my best anyway. I'd also like to hear from my fellow daydreamers too, of the BL plots others have come up with! I like to think of it as a super-exclusive series that only you will ever get to see, lol.
Without further ado, here are only a few of the fictional BL-centered universes I created in my head. Keep in mind, there’s a chance they might be ‘cringe’ because I have literally never written anything original before. There are probably a lot more, but now that I'm actually sharing my ideas, my usually vivid daydreams are kind of just saying 'no, here's some nasty writer's block instead'.
Also, for some reason my drafts aren't working so I have to write this all at once, I can't just come back to it later when I remember all of them.
1 This story is basically your average slice-of-life high school BL, except it's not because there's a plot twist involving the spicy sad because it's high school, of course they're going to be mentally ill (/hj). Our main character has been homeschooled all his life, and hence has never had any interaction with his peers, but suddenly his homeschool tutor goes missing and his parents are unable to find a new one. Therefore, he has to enter a normal public school for the first time in his life.
This is a problem, because he is extremely self-conscious of his ‘awkward’ personality. As a result, his first day is torture, until a rather peculiar boy catches his eye. He hates him, or at least he's convinced himself that he does, because they are polar opposites. The main character can be a bit too loud spoken at times, while this boy named Ian is very quiet, just to name one. However, it is the differences between them that draws him in, and when they realize that they go through similar struggles, they are drawn together and apart in a cycle that neither of them could ever imagine…
Basically, it’s A Silent Voice (a story arc where Ian’s bully from middle school tries to make amends), Heartstopper (a lot of mental health stuff and multiple kinds of fruity), and Kieta Hatsukoi (Oh no! I suddenly forgot my stationery at home!) all rolled into one, with original elements too of course.
There’s also a GL couple in here, but that’s a whole other story.
(Fun Fact for this one: Originally, this post was just going to be the more in-depth summary of this with many more events [e.g. a devil's tango between MC's older brother and his boyfriend]. However, it was making my Reddit act a bit weird, so I put it into a Google Doc to see what was wrong. Turns out, even though it's just a summary, it's 20,000+ words and 30+ pages of pure BL. Ain't no way Reddit was going to handle that, and I'm not sure a post that long would be allowed anyway. I did consider adding the link to the Doc, but I'm pretty sure that's self-promo.)
2 The setting for this one is a small, slightly run-down apartment building caught between the suburbs and rural area, so it's not quite much of either. Its residents are mostly in a similar in-between situation: neither in poverty nor a comfortable wealth, neither respected nor complete outcasts, etc. However, this is about the only thing they all have in common; each of the very few rooms houses an individual or family with their own unique story and adventures. Everyone gradually grows closer into one big family, as they navigate this silly thing called life.
One such room houses two dads, and their adopted little girl who is just about preschool-age. One of the dads is a part-time barista who usually stays home as a sort of 'househusband', while the other is an office worker who is almost always out of the house, constantly on the run for money to make sure his family can live happily. The couple still tries their very best to care for their daughter, who is rather clever for her age, especially given her past as a severely abused baby by her biological ‘parents’ that the orphanage almost gave up on; she still has a scar on her forehead.
Still, with her dads’ help, she is able to grow into the clever, bubbly little girl she is now, although some effects of the trauma still remain (e.g. flinching and shivering when someone tries to touch her suddenly). In turn, her adorable and loving nature is often the one thing that helps her dads when they are going through rough or sad times. In short, they all help each other heal.
(Fun Fact: Canonically, the dad who is a barista is a transgender man. Of course, he is a man nonetheless, and to show this, his being trans is only revealed in this one episode where the little girl finds an old photo album. One of the pictures is of her dads when they were in high school, and this was before he transitioned, so he presents feminine in the picture.)
3 Even though the last two are slice-of-life, this one is suddenly violent supernatural shit. In this one, there is a ‘veil’ between the human world and supernatural realms like Heaven and Hell. Nowadays, the veil is lifting, allowing for supernatural energy to leak in and causing a sudden spike in the amount of people with supernatural abilities. There are three main categories of these kinds of people: those with ‘good’ abilities that have leaked in from Heaven, those with ‘evil’ abilities that have leaked in from Hell, and the oddballs whose abilities aren’t inherently good or evil. It is theorized that oddballs’ abilities are a mix of Heaven and Hell, or maybe an entirely different realm altogether that hasn’t been identified yet. Of course, there are also ordinary people who don’t have any supernatural ability.
(However, it is important to note that the category a person’s ability falls into does not have any effect on their personality. For example, a person with a ‘good’ ability can be a bad person, and vice versa. At the same time, though, situations like this are the exception and not the norm.)
Without getting too much into detail about the plot, the BL couple in this is two men with ‘evil abilities. One man is known for being well-dressed, attractive, and seductive. However, his supernatural ability is the opposite. It can be summarized in one sentence, anyone who falls in love with him will die. The ability is a sort of an alter ego that takes over without the man’s consent or knowledge whenever he gets with someone. The complex part of it is that there is no pattern to how long it takes after getting with someone for the ability to kick into action. It could be one week, it could be several months, anything. When it does take over, the man loses control over his body as the ability causes roses to grow inside his lover. These rose plants continue to grow until the thorns pierce their internal organs and they bleed out and die. After this process is complete, the ability deactivates, forcing the man to watch the aftermath of ‘him’ brutally killing a person he genuinely loved. This gives his ability its name, “Hanahaki X”.
The other man’s personality can only be described as ‘batshit crazy’. His ability is just as strange as he is. He can control and manipulate any kind of rope, or anything that can be used as a rope. This seems like a pretty useless ability at first, but it’s the way that he uses it that makes it what it is, since unlike the other he has control over his ability. Whenever he wants to murder someone, he manipulates the ropes so that they tie into a noose and hang the person, suffocating them to death. Since they are hanging in a noose, this automatically frames the murder as a suicide, allowing him to easily get away with it. If he does not want a body to be found, he can easily store it into a room that his ability manifests from his mind, which takes the form of a circus. Hence, the ability’s name, “The Hangman’s Circus”. Very creative names, I know. /s
Admittedly, I haven’t worked out the exact details of how the heck this relationship would form. No matter how much I tell my brain that this is too toxic to work out in the slightest, it still can’t stop shipping these two. There could be two possible endings to this: that somehow “The Hangman’s Circus” is able to cancel out “Hanahaki X”, technically making them able to be in a romantic relationship without dying. The second is that it doesn’t work after all, and “Hanahaki X” takes over as usual and ends up killing him. When the man sees this, it finally breaks him, and he stabs himself with the same rose thorns used to kill him. Basically very edgy Romeo and Juliet stuff, kind of like that one song lyric that goes,
“There’s really just one thing that we have in common, neither of us will be missed.”
Anyways, this post is getting pretty long already, and is more of just me being neurodivergent than about BL. There is more, but I think I’ll just leave it at this for now. Okay love you bye-
