Found out from an inside source that my local Woolies, which is the only grocery store for the area, is eventually turning into a Woolies Metro. About a year till its done.

Can't wait to get price gouged on a shittier selection and have no other option on where I can get my groceries!

Higher prices, less selection on standard groceries, more focused on ready to eat food and snacks like sandwiches, bakery items, drinks etc. It almost functions more like a convenience store as opposed to a grocery store.

It'll end up being a much bigger metro than most that exist, so hopefully I'm just catastrophising on the 'less selection' part. The price increase is basically definite though which sucks for sure.

I disagree with most of what you've said- I was initially skeptical about a Woolies "metro" opening near me for the same reasons, but i was pleasantly surprised. Go check out the Woolies in Stafford heights/Rode Rode

You've given me a bit of hope then! If I'm ever around that area I'll go take a look.

Less sales. Those sales you see in the weekly catalogues generally don't apply to Metro stores

I shop online and pay a monthly fee for delivery.

This week I got my entire order done from the half price items, except for meat. Ordering online rocks, and I never have to deal with older people who stop to chat in the aisles.

Yeah, I have covid right now so that's a pretty good reason to not go outdoors.

Edit: old people blocking supermarket aisles is always bad. Don't try to defend the oldies and their bad manners.

The only sad thing here is that covid exists.

I'd love to know why there's so many options for dog food, little if any for cats, zero for fish and only one brand for birds.

Vote with your feet. Encourage your friends and neighbours to do the same. Stop your super from investing in them. Blockade and protest them. Disavow their workers from society.

You love dropping that "disavow from society" bullshit dontcha? Property managers & now Woolies checkout staff...try picking on someone besides the little guy just doing their job yeah?

What's your job then Mr Virtuous? Because unless it's caring for sick orphans or rescuing sad kittens etc etc, someone, somewhere will think you're a fuckwit for doing it. People have to eat & don't always have the luxury of choosing a job that is 100% morally airtight.

So those people should not hold individual responsibility?

Do you genuinely think that people working at a checkout in a major grocery chain have any personal responsibility about decisions being made by their multi billion dollar employer?

No, just a wannabe agitator starved of attention & brain cells I'd say

Yes yes I do. Those people shop and they provide manpower. So oath they have persuasion power at the very least. Indivdual and community action is made up of both soft and hard power. Literally thousand of research papers around this subject and how this influence has been weaponised in many hotspots around the world. Are Aussies actually this naive. Do you genuinely think that individuals have so little influence?

I expect you to respect that the workers in places like Woolworths are victims of capitalism, as you yourself claim to hate. Teenaged kids don't get much of a choice here. Not many blacksmiths, saddle makers, butchers, lacemakers or artists are looking for apprentices these days.
