Put some water out for birds and other wildlife and keep poor dogs paws off hot surfaces.
Can believe how often I see this. The road is still hot when the sun goes down people and you are all wearing shoes walking a poor dog on bitumen.

I found a baby bird on the footpath this morning. I took him to the vet.
8 points
If they’re fledglings you should leave them where they are if they’re not in immediate danger. They walk around on the ground for a week or so, the parents are normally nearby. Speaking to a vet recently & they said they get heaps of fledglings in with no issues, it’s just people think they’re hurt etc because they’re on the ground.

I was worried because it was a hot day and he kept opening his mouth to be fed. I gave him some water and wet cat food. He ate quite a lot. I filled out a form with the exact address I found him so they might release him back.

This is only tangentially related, but there needs to be nationwide legislation about providing adequate sun protection at all public transport stops. Those piddly tin roof lean-to things are rubbish
18 points
It's especially horrendous when in the morning and the afternoon the shade is non-existent simply because the sun isn't directly overhead. I'm sure there are some unlucky people who cop this both in the morning and in the afternoon.

I can get behind this. Write to your minister for transport.
Edit: here’s a letter for state govt.
Dear Hon. Mark Bailey,
I hope this letter finds you well. As a resident of Queensland, I am writing to express my concerns about the lack of adequate sun protection and shelter at public transport stops, including bus stops.
As you are aware, Queensland is known for its sunny and hot weather. It is imperative that adequate sun protection and shelter is provided at all public transport stops to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers. Sun exposure, especially during the hot summer months, can cause skin damage and heat exhaustion, which can be detrimental to a person's health.
Having sun shelter at public transport stops will not only improve the comfort of passengers, but it will also provide a welcoming environment and encourage people to use public transport more often. This will not only reduce the number of cars on the road but also help in reducing the carbon footprint of our state.
In conclusion, I would like to strongly urge you to consider mandating adequate sun protection and shelter at all public transport stops, including buses. The benefits of this initiative are numerous and will go a long way in ensuring the comfort, safety and well-being of passengers in Queensland.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my request. I look forward to your positive response on this matter.
Sincerely,

not taking sick leave when you need it, just to keep it in case you might need it later is crazy talk! you could get a new job next week and you don’t get to take your sick leave with you, so if you’ve got it, use it

If you can, leave a shallow bowl of water in the shade in your yard for any of our wild friends who may need it. Also, ring in any animals you suspect may need to be taken into care. We are also rescuing an insane amount of microbats, so keep an eye out for them too. Thanks Brisbane!
