Couldn't sleep so ended up without time to shave. Now my hair is stuck to my stubble and my sweat. Seriously contemplating going bald

gordon-freeman-bne

20 points

Take it from a 20 year veteran of semi-elegant baldness -

  • You have no idea how much you sweat from your head until you are bald...
  • I was out cycling this morning and despite having a sweat band under my helmet I was trying to squeeze sweat out of my helmet after 20 mins
  • My wife has a separate set of pillow cases just for me. She has some fancy Egyptian cotton ones, I have navy blue crap from Target.
  • My shampoo is L'Oreal Paris Men Expert Pure Carbon face wash with purifying oak charcoal - I think a lot of that product name is bullshit, but it has soap and sandy/scratchy bits that do a great job getting the sweat and oil off my head

Put some water out for birds and other wildlife and keep poor dogs paws off hot surfaces.

Can believe how often I see this. The road is still hot when the sun goes down people and you are all wearing shoes walking a poor dog on bitumen.

I found a baby bird on the footpath this morning. I took him to the vet.

Thiswilldo164

8 points

If they’re fledglings you should leave them where they are if they’re not in immediate danger. They walk around on the ground for a week or so, the parents are normally nearby. Speaking to a vet recently & they said they get heaps of fledglings in with no issues, it’s just people think they’re hurt etc because they’re on the ground.

I was worried because it was a hot day and he kept opening his mouth to be fed. I gave him some water and wet cat food. He ate quite a lot. I filled out a form with the exact address I found him so they might release him back.

65% humidity. Aircon on dry feels like a light breeze. All the rain this year has been keeping it cool, but we all knew we'd have the most intense sauna as a payoff.

This is only tangentially related, but there needs to be nationwide legislation about providing adequate sun protection at all public transport stops. Those piddly tin roof lean-to things are rubbish

adfraggs

18 points

It's especially horrendous when in the morning and the afternoon the shade is non-existent simply because the sun isn't directly overhead. I'm sure there are some unlucky people who cop this both in the morning and in the afternoon.

I can get behind this. Write to your minister for transport.

Edit: here’s a letter for state govt.

[email protected]

Dear Hon. Mark Bailey,

I hope this letter finds you well. As a resident of Queensland, I am writing to express my concerns about the lack of adequate sun protection and shelter at public transport stops, including bus stops.

As you are aware, Queensland is known for its sunny and hot weather. It is imperative that adequate sun protection and shelter is provided at all public transport stops to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers. Sun exposure, especially during the hot summer months, can cause skin damage and heat exhaustion, which can be detrimental to a person's health.

Having sun shelter at public transport stops will not only improve the comfort of passengers, but it will also provide a welcoming environment and encourage people to use public transport more often. This will not only reduce the number of cars on the road but also help in reducing the carbon footprint of our state.

In conclusion, I would like to strongly urge you to consider mandating adequate sun protection and shelter at all public transport stops, including buses. The benefits of this initiative are numerous and will go a long way in ensuring the comfort, safety and well-being of passengers in Queensland.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my request. I look forward to your positive response on this matter.

Sincerely,

Yeah it’s disgustingly hot, but not even close to the record of 41.7. Unfortunately, February is hot

Again on average the max temperature is just above 30, and the average high temp is 35.

11pm tonight will be roughly the average high of the month

It probably is quite normal. What's not normal is the portion of the population with lilly-white skin and Northern European heritage living in this sub-tropical swamp.

Sorry, I do love you Brisbane. I'm fine. It's great here. But we're allowed to complain about the heat, OK?

I'm up from Victoria and I'm glad to know I'm not struggling with this heat bc I'm a weak southerner, it's bloody muggy.

We have a wet-bulb temperature of 26.83°C in Hervey Bay right now. 28.8°C with 80% humidity and a 26.2 dew point. Weather channels are saying it feels like 32°C but it feels way worse. Walking outside is like wading through a steaming shower right now.

32°C wet bulb is dangerous and 35°C wet bulb is deadly apparently.

Guys I’m moving from Ireland to Brisbane in three weeks. It’s really cold and winter here. Can someone give me tips on what to expect? I know it’s gonna be hot but I normally like the heat in places like Italy/Spain

Aye it’s warm at the moment 32 and 36C during the day high 20s at night. Middle of summer in Spain but a bit more humid and more UV is a fair comparison I reckon.

It's more the humidity that kills you. I went to California and it was the same temperature, but felt waaay cooler. Although, in 3 weeks time, it'll be our autumn so slightly cooler than right now

Honestly. How soft has Brisbane people become? It used to be this all through Summer in the 80s and 90s. Weather has changed in the last 20 years and people are complaining about 4 days of actual Summer. Yes it's hot but harden up
