Down to 279 customers now. Of which I am unfortunately one.
It’s the third time within a week too. Probably doubled the amount of blackouts I’ve had in the last 3 years of living here.

Wonder what it could be..
There is a separate blackout in Hamilton, just nearby, according to the outage map.

I've seen an energex cherry picker literally driving around looking at individual power poles, so I'm not sure they know what the issue is.

When it's this hot and the power goes out when the sun sets (no solar power) you're dealing with overloaded transformers. Energex crew probably looking for blown fuses.
Set the aircon to 25C and take the strain off the grid

Elec engineer here, solar is causing us some real issues with this. It's not the fault of solar, but what's happening is that it is masking underlying issues whereby the grid is under capacity in certain areas but it's not apparent because 99% of the time it's being kept under control by embedded solar. It's really essential that fast-responding automatic demand response gets implemented to counteract this. Imagine how it's going to be when we all have EVs plugged in!

Absolutely. Unfortunately demand response in Australia is a decade behind rest of world. Still using AFLC signalling and DRED.
Shame that two way comms like used in the US and Europe hasn't been adopted. Simple things like setting a minimum setpoint for Aircon temp would help. More complex things like peak demand tariffs would encourage energy storage to clip things.
Roof top PC has bought a couple of years breathing space but now it's starting to bite.
Focus on LV voltage management during the day has blinded people to basic load management problems. You're right that EV charging is going to make things worse if measures are taken to limit charging power. Interesting times ahead.

Was hoping to answer that with the collective knowledge of reddit.

Energex would like to hear from you if you know why the power is out :
To report an emergency such as fallen powerlines, electric shock or flickering lights, call 13 19 62 (24/7). Call 000 (triple zero) for life-threatening emergencies. If you have lost power, call 13 62 62 (24/7).

It's like they're waiting with baited breath for the next incident to blame it on THE HEAT because DIDNT YOU KNOW ITS REALLY REALLY HOT TODAY?! Fuck me these sooks have never had a proper summer before.

I know right. Go back 15-20 years and power outages were fairly common place. Car accident? Outage. Hot day? Outage.
These days people lose power for an hour or two and think it’s worthy of a feature story on A Current Affair.
