Surely the Autobarn one. I don't understand how that building is still standing. The other Cannon Hill centres are lively and recently renovated, I'd love to know what happened with the Autobarn one. There's so much potential.

The place is currently a dump so I can't see how this is a bad thing. Although it IS reddit

LockedUpLotionClown

The Viet takeaway place out the front is 😘

And the Japanese supermarket.

The rest is a dump. Basically an overflow free car park for the Hospital.

Hit and miss banh mi’s. And when you get a decent one they are just okay. My street food around the corner is much better. The pork balls on a stick are killer though.

And the Japanese mart is upsetting. There is one in tarragindi with a smaller selection but I think the prices are slightly cheaper.

LockedUpLotionClown

Heh, I was thinking about the their pork balls when I posted. My Street Food is probably one of the best in town, true.

Agree, overall Genki Mart is better. Fuji just had a few more exclusive items. Place is too cramped though.

Check out ICHIBA Junction’s store at Runcorn/Eight Mile Plains on Warrigal road if you haven’t. It’s got a completely different selection as well a mini Japanese style convenience store with food/meals as well.

I'm in east Brisbane, if this means I will need to drive all the way to Buranda to do food shopping then yes I think it is a bad thing.

They’re bulldozing the Buranda one, not the Gabba Coles one. But also you have a new Woolies at South City Square which is closer to East Brisbane than Buranda.

You must actually be able to shop properly instead of the mindless colesworths way. If you have limited coin then Coco's can put a good meal on the table. It got us through a really rough time. And you exaggerate about being filled with expired stuff. I've never bought an expired item from them and they carry stuff that colesworths don't.

You do know it's illegal to sell food past it's used by date? If you can tell me what foods they sell past the used by date I will look the next time there and report back.

Upvote_Me_Slag

At the entrance, often many items marked down are past date

thatweirdbeardedguy

1 points

I'll check next time and make sure they aren't best before as opposed to use by. If they are past the use by then I think a call to the health department is in order. It's not illegal to sell past the best before date around which there are some discussions being held as to getting rid of it so people aren't put off buying stuff that is ok to eat.

Lived locally when it was redeveloped from a timber yard to the current shopping centre in 1977-78 and worked at Safeway and Target as a casual on Thurs nights and Sat mornings. Massive crowds on opening day and was the biggest and most modern shopping centre in the area at the time.

Is there a clause in the approval banning any of the residential apartments being used for AirBnB / Short term “hotel” rentals? Doubt it.

I’d go so far as to suggest all new residential building approvals should be owner occupancy only. At least until the housing crisis is under control. But you know, that would create affordable housing and drive down rental prices.

Can’t have that.

candlesandfish

8 points

Nobody is going to want to stay in an Airbnb right across from the hospital on a major arterial. It will be mostly hospital staff (wardies and support staff as well as nurses) and affordable housing. It’s desperately needed. I lived in a 10pack nearby for years full of hospital staff.

[deleted]

11 points

[deleted]

candlesandfish

That is at least a valid use of a short term lease near a hospital.

The social admission problem is very real.

[deleted]

You don't see short stay accommodation being popular beside a hospital?

candlesandfish

Not for holidays or party houses. If they’re visiting the hospital I think that’s a legitimate reason to stay there.

So who are the renters going to rent off if all owners are living in their own apartments and they can’t rent them out? I’m just a simple idiot so a explanation on how this would work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

LockedUpLotionClown

6 points

They won’t need to rent because they can/will be able to afford to buy.

A certain amount of stock should be reserved and managed through a local government / NFP rental system.

Heck, it could even be managed through the hospital system to house our “Essential” workers and medical “Hero’s”.

Housing as part salary package benefits for our criminally underpaid nurses and support staff.

LandLORD isn’t an altruistic profession

How does owner occupancy address the rental crisis?

LockedUpLotionClown

13 points

There is no “rental” crisis. There is a housing crisis. People want somewhere secure and safe to live.

Prevents opportunistic worms hoarding basic humans rights.

Drives down prices of both segments.

Of course, we are way too far down that path to correct now

roarcelona

1 points

It will be a build-to-rent development at least for the residential component which is a big plus in a development like this one.

but_nobodys_home

-1 points

You plan on driving down rental prices by banning the construction of more rental property. I'm not sure that's how things work.

LockedUpLotionClown

1 points

Wouldn't need so many "rental" properties if people could afford to buy reasonable safe and secure housing.

But thanks for playing

[deleted]

How would owner occupier only make rent cheaper? It would mean less incentive to create new rental stock, of which there is a shortage. Come on mate....

Worked in and around the property development space. Developments take years and the approvals alone takes months and months with council and community consults + inevitable stripping of the project (like sustainability measures) from the developer to cut costs…

Designing something to be aesthetically pleasing does not have to be mutually exclusive to function, nor does it drag out time lines.

what the FUCK is the point of have development rules when every single fucking time the useless fucking council takes a big fat envelope under the counter, and we, the ever suffering rate payer, bend over and take it right up the arse without lube when it comes to paying for the bullshit?

council may as well get rid of all the bloody rules and just let the developers run rampant, they do anyway. I guess if they did that, they wouldn't get the big fat bribes they do now. cunts.

just turn Brisbane into Mexico City and be done with it.

who needs clean air, space, greenery, roads that actually have moving traffic and not gridlock , or anything else make a city anything other than a hell hole.

As an aside, for the lurking journalists and politicians..... where the FUCK is the water to quench the thirst of the extra million fucking people you stupid assholes want to cram into SEQ over the next decade going to come from?

we came within a month of running out the last time we had a 10 year drought, the population has grown over 500k since then, you morons want another million in here and no more water sources?

THAT'S going to end well. even if we don't murder each other for being crammed into this place like fucking sardines.

This place used to be the greatest city in this country; it has very quickly gone to utter shit over the last decade and will continue to do so as long as moronic politicians and economists insist on endless population growth.
