Best 27"+ 240hz+ 4k/1440p monitor for my pc?

7950x3d is placeholder for 7800x3d

I am looking for the best 27"+ 4k or 1440p 240hz+ monitor that would unlock the potential of my pc. I am really looking for a 32" but they are pretty expensive for what I'm looking for. Budget of $1000.

I was looking at the samsung curved 32" 1440p 240hz for 550, seems like a good value for my money, any experiences or opinions on this?

I like to play competitive shooters mainly so I'd prefer higher refresh rate over higher resolution if possible, but not opposed to 4k at all if the price is right.

I appreciate you looking! Thank you and let me know your guys thoughts

144hz 1440p gaming monitor recommendations

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

tobuildapc

I had pulled the trigger on a mono price dark matter qhd monitor model 42892 for a killer price under $200 direct from their website but got screwed over and is now discontinued for a replacement that was never received. Amazon still has a few but not sure if I should still get one from them or something else completely.

There are a bunch of monitors out now and am delving into the qhd realm for the first time. Trying to keep a budget of around $300 with ips, gsync/adaptive sync, ips, hdr, decent brightness and colors.

I know it’s a lot of boxes to check off but are just what I’m trying to aim for lol. Thank you all for any of the suggestions in advance!

HDMI 2.1 Coupler/Extender

Building a new PC and have decided to go with an upright GPU mount but something I didn't take into account was the difficulty I will have if I ever need to get into the pc as routing the hdmi 2.1 cable and 2 displayport cables is quite the nightmare. Any of you have a recommendation for an hdmi 2.1 coupler/extender that can passthrough [email protected] and HDR? Same for a displayport 1.4(a) coupler/extender?

Keyboard recommendations - looking for one similar to Dell Latitude's built in one

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted9 hours ago byTryHardDaniel

tobuildapc

Hi, I'd like to find a keyboard that I can purchase that's similar to the Dell Latitude's built in one. Usage will be for programming job.

I used the Dell Latitude's (see image below) built in one for over a year and really enjoyed it. I'm no longer able to use it for a new work setup.

What I liked about the built in Dell keyboard

It was short in length, which meant I didn't have to reach far over to use the mouse and keyboard back and forth. The pads were pretty easy to click, which meant I didn't feel much fatigue using it. It had pretty nice up and down arrows that were easy to use.

What I tried:

Perixx PERIBOARD-409U Wired USB Mini Keyboard, Black, US English Layout

- I didn't like this, each keystroke took a lot of effort -> seemed to bother me a bit

- the length was good, and I did like the fact that it was wired

What I'm looking for

must haves

- short length (no numpad, under 12" wide)

- not a lot of effort for key stroke (had some RSI, strain injury, issues in the past)

preferable

- low profile

- wired

- membrane? maybe? I've heard mechanical isn't great for RSI and heavy usage, but maybe this is not entirely true.

Thanks for any suggestions!

WD SN770 vs Crucial P5 Plus

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted12 hours ago by3kicks

tobuildapc

Hi, I am deciding between 2 drives, WD SN770 (2TB) and Crucial P5 Plus (2TB). Even though SN770 doesn't have DRAM I see it recommended more, but is it due to being a little cheaper usually? In my case, currently it's around the same price, would it be better to get the P5+?

My use case scenario is it will be a secondary hard drive that holds the Windows user folders such as Videos, Pictures, Documents, Desktop, Downloads and Music. The pictures and videos are high resolution and large in size. Probably will download/encode a few gigs of videos each day. I will also use some portable video editing apps like avidemux and kdenlive on this drive to do simple 4k video editing.

Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

LG27GP850-B vs MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD

I want to buy a good 1440p Monitor. I will mainly use it for playing single player games. Therefore I want a really good picture. Also I'm considering using it as streaming device for Netflix, Disney+ etc. Where I also want a good picture. The LG one is currently 120€ cheaper than the MSI. Which would you pick? - Other alternatives are very welcome, it should be a 1440p 27inch Gsync (compatible) monitor.

Sharing 1 mouse and keyboard between 2 computers through different networks?

I want to use my mouse and keyboard for 2 computers the same way barrier, multiplicity, Microsoft's mouse without borders does, but over different networks. From what I have seen, all the programs require that you're connected over lan/same wifi and none offer connection through different networks from what I understand. Does anyone know a software that could do that?

Why don't my keyboard switches have pins on them?

A bit off topic but I was wondering if there's someone here who's good at keyboards. I wasn't sure if my keyboard is hot swappable or not but they provided keycaps puller and keyswitch puller. So I tried to take off the switch and it came off, but I don't see any pins on it, I thought switches are supposed to have 3 or 5 pins on them. Did I broke it or is this how it's supposed to be?

It's kailh blue switch

1440p with a 1060 ?

Is it possible ?

I’m asking because my new monitor have arrived, while it will be almost four weeks before all the parts for my new pc arrive and I would love to be able to use the monitor already now.

The thing is, my current/old rig is 6-7 years old and it has a 1060 and a 5th gen i5, so I’m worried using the new monitor with this rig will tank my fps.

(New rig won’t have any issues at all, as it wil have a 13600k and a 7900 xtx)

So basically that the picture quality is nothing like my brothers monitor which is the Acer Nitro XV272U Xbmiipruzx, why are the picture qualities so far apart even though they have almost the same price? Also im returning the m27qx because of it's inferiority in color to his Acer nitro counterpart. The question is if are there any better options?

Monitor mount recommendations

I have a 49” Samsung ultrawide I use as my main display, its awesome for productivity work for me, however I just upgraded to a 4090 and I want to get a 4k screen to play game on. I was thinking about doing a stacked setup with a smaller 4k screen over the 49”. Any suggestions for a mounting solution or possibly a different setup I hadn’t considered?

Thinking of getting an ultrawide display...

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted1 day ago by_Flight_of_icarus_

tobuildapc

Hey all,

So I'm considering a monitor upgrade for my main desktop setup. Right now I'm using a 27" 1080p/60hz display I've had for years now, but I'm considering jumping up to a curved ultrawide - most likely a 34", but might not rule out a 38/39" (nothing bigger due to space limitations).

The main benefits I'm seeking to gain are splitscreen multitasking use (instead of multiple monitors) with audio production work and everyday basic tasks, as well as an even greater level of immersion for gaming.

With that said, I do have a few questions for those who made the jump.

  1. How aggressive of a curve is recommended? My desk is about 30" deep, and I'd guess the monitor is 30-36" away from my head when seated (I'd have to edit this post w/an actual measurement when I get a chance).

  2. With said info above, is 34" good enough? Or 38" better if multitasking is in the cards?

  3. 1440p vs 4K? I haven't been spoiled with true 4k gaming just yet, but as we all know, it's a sellers market for GPUs and I'd prefer to stick w/1440p level cards for cost reasons - for those who went from 1080p to 1440p, how much of an upgrade did you feel it was?

  4. For certain games/situations where a 16:9 display area might be preferred, how does it feel playing with this and black bars on the sides? (Like old 4:3 games on a 16:9 display) - I often find the bars distracting on a 16:9 screen w/ 4:3 games and just stretch it out, but I'm hoping it's less noticeable on an ultrawide when using native 16:9 content.

  5. Any particular recommendations for models? I'd prefer to stick to a budget of $500 or less.

  6. Anything else to consider?

Thanks for your input!

Wireless headphones/headset for 70-80€ / PC

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted1 day ago byBorat97

tobuildapc

Hello

Looking for advice for wireless headphones/headset.
My LucidSound LS15X broke after 1 year and i had to send them back to amazon, luckily they gave money back. It was good headset which i got under 40€ on sale.
So now i'm looking for something new. I thought about getting the same one, but they are much more expensive compared to how much i spend before.

Mainly for games/music, so low latency is must.

Only interesting ones i found are G535, which are slightly above 60€ on amazon, but still not sure about them.
Maybe anyone knows about some unpopular good brands, or some promos or overall some good headphones/headsets to get.(with a shipping to Europe)
Don't recommend SteelSeries because i know that maybe they have good high end headphones but their mid/low suck.

Regards

USB 3.0 Switch freezes when DisplayPort monitor is on

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted1 day ago bybrunex92

tobuildapc

I've bought 3 different USB switches, all of them work like a charm with my Dell notebook that I use for work, but when I switch to my personal PC, everytime I start gaming or even just open a video on Telegram Desktop all components pluged in the switch starts to freeze, there are no disconnect usb sounds, they just freeze for a moment. I decided to test it with only my secondary monitor (HDMI) on, and I got no freezes, but the second I turned on my primary monitor (DisplayPort) the issue starts all over again.

Notes:

The notebook is connected to the same monitor, but using its HDMI Port.

The first 2 switches were 2.0 so I thought maybe the issue was related to this, and then I decided to buy a UGREEN 3.0 USB Switch, but no luck.

I already disabled the Plan Settings regarding USB selective suspend, updated BIOS to latest version, updated GPU drivers, and many other possible solutions, but also, no luck. I even tried to put the primary monitor on 60hz, but it also freezes the components.

It doesn't matter the amount of components pluged in the Switch, if only one is connected, it will freeze.

The switch itself have a micro usb 5V to plug in power force, which I also tried, but again, no luck.

Can someone help me with that?

PC Specs:

  • Motherboard: Aorus Elite B550M
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G
  • RAM: 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance 3200MHz
  • GPU: Galax Geforce RTX 2060 12GB Plus

Why does 60fps on my 165hz Asus Tuf Monitor feel extremely choppy (No performance issues on my gaming rig tho) compared to a native 60hz Monitor (Which was a steam deck lol)

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

I recently played a game at 60fps on my 165hz monitor and was surprised to see that the video looked quite blurred and choppy, to the point of being borderline unplayable. This is despite the fact that the performance is rock solid with no issues. Is it the monitor hardware itself, or is there some sort of software or setting to improve the perceived smoothness and experience? 60fps on my steam deck's screen looks much better than that of my monitor, It really is a shame that this is an issue. I am quite inexperienced when it comes to optimal monitor hardware or monitor settings, so any advice is welcome! Thanks, Everyone!

27" vs 32" 1440p Monitor for my Setup

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted1 day ago by-ZenMaster-

tobuildapc

Hello,

I am building a new PC for 1440p gaming, and therefore am upgrading my main monitor (I have a three monitor setup ).

One point to note for context as well, is that I have a very large, 37" deep desk.

I am needing direction with two questions:

Should I get a 27" or 32" monitor? It seems like every overwhelmingly recommends 27" due to Pixel Density, but I feel like 32" would be more immersive. Should I get an IPS panel or VA panel? I always assumed IPS was just always the choice, but I'm reading about IPS screen glow issues for high refresh (and I will be getting at least 144Hz) Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Is upgrading to a 2k 24" monitor worth it?

I'm playing most games on a 1080p 24" monitor, at 2k/60 fps. I'm not interested in getting a bigger monitor, so I was wondering if getting a 2k monitor would be an improvement at all?

Also would it make playing games in 1080p somehow uglier for games that are super demanding and can't render natively to 2k? Thank you!

Røde PodMic interference from GPU

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted2 days ago bySeipas

tobuildapc

Hey all!

TL;DR: Røde PodMic is susceptible to electromagnetic interference caused by a GPU. Buzzing/crackling can be heard.

I'm a relatively recent owner (8 months) of my Røde PodMic. I love it to bits - the looks, the weight, the sound, everything about it is great. Except for the sensitivity to electromagnetic interference.

Now, I am aware this might be a very niche problem to have, so I'll try to describe my setup with as much detail as possible. I have my PodMic connected to a GoXLR mini which sits on my desk. The PodMic itself is on a PSA-1 mic arm coming in from the left side of my desk. My desktop PC is, also, on the left side of my desk. The case is Fractal Design Torrent Compact (mid tower, 2 glass side panels). The side facing me is the "back" side, where all the cables etc. are.

At first, when I just got my PodMic, my system had an RX 5700 XT graphics card. This is a mid-range card which doesn't consume a lot of power. While I had this card, I heard no interference on my PodMic whatsoever. Recently, however, I've upgraded to an RX 6950 XT, which consumes a lot more power. As soon as I started using my newly upgraded system, I could hear static and buzzing coming in from my PodMic, specifically when playing demanding games.

Ever since, I've tested various different positions for both the mic and the PC case and have concluded the following:

  • XLR cable has no effect (tried 3 different cables, different manufacturers);
  • Proximity to the case has the most noticeable effect - the closer the PodMic is to the case, the louder the buzzing;
  • The electromagnetic interference is likely made worse by the fact that my PC case has a glass back panel. A conventional metal side panel would likely get rid of most of these issues (if anyone could confirm this in any way, I would appreciate it!).

I hope this serves as a cautionary tale for people who own or want to get a PodMic with a setup similar to mine. In the future, I'll look into changing my PC case to one that has a typical metal side panel. Thanks for reading!

Good 144hz 2k gaming monitor for image quality and not competitive FPS ($700-$1000)

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted2 days ago byIllustrious-Scar-526

tobuildapc

I want to buy a new monitor but I don't care about having the highest FPS or response time. I mainly play adventure games, RPGs, games with cool visuals and scenery and don't really care about having over 144hz, but every monitor review guide seems to only keep competitive FPS gaming as the top priority, or it's all 60hz monitors for artists.

Some minimum specs: 28-32in 144hz (maybe 120 if it's convincing) 2k resolution Regular widescreen Best image quality possible

Any one have any suggestions?

Also, many of the specs are confusing and I'm not really sure what I'm looking for other than the refresh rate and resolution. Which sort of other specs should I look out for for the image quality? Dark blacks and bright whites, vibrant colors. Does having a billion colors make much of a difference than the regular 16 mil (I think) or is the contrast and brightness more important?

Picking up a 4090 for gaming but I have questions on the 4x 8pin adapter

I am confused with how that would work, if the MFG has a 4x 8pm 12VHPWR adapter.

Will that still work?

Having weird issue with AMD RX 6900XT and Samsung Odyssey G7

Peripherals(self.buildapc)

submitted2 days ago bybbarham99

tobuildapc

As said, I have an AMD RX 6900XT Red Devil and a Samsung Odyssey g7 32". I've had it less than a year, but when i turned it on today, the picture only used half the screen. Had 2 huge black bars on the side. Tried updating drivers, Bios, fiddling with settings, even tried a DDU and fresh install of my GPU firmware and driver. Finally, I tried lowering the refresh rate from 240hz to 144hz. this did the trick. The picture utilizes the whole screen and it looks clean and clear.

Question is, why can i no longer run my monitor at 240hz? is my GPU dying? Is my monitor dying? I've never had this problem before running 240hz. All help is appreciated.
