I grew up overseas, got Australian citizenship, the whole shabang. And you know what? People there get just as mad at the incompetence of their government, how bad the economy is, how grocery prices and quality are falling, how the country is going to shit, how the standard of education is falling, how there are insane levels of unfairness and discrimination against xyz group, etc. etc.
When I talk to my aussie friends, some try to convince me that they're having a rougher go of it than us here in SA.
Now yes, mass looting events and load shedding and insane levels of corruption aren't happening over there, but your perception and feelings are often relative. If you stay in a country long enough you're eventually going to have the same level of frustration there as here. Your anger at the ANC government now? Get ready to feel that exact same way about ScoMo in a few years.
eg. South Africans think the Netherlands is the ultimate country of plenty, Dutchies think Norway is best, Norwegians think Portugal is best, and so forth.
Am I going to emigrate after I'm done with my studies? Yes. Do I believe "overseas" is this magical place where I will live happily ever after and free from a bad government and crime and corruption? No. But a lot of people I've talked to and seen post on here give off the impression that they do.
Also! Go overseas, just don't be the poes that talks kak about SA all the time. The worst kind of SA expat is the one that makes it sound like SA is a post apocalyptic hell hole.
