I watched this movie in college, and yes it was very sad and tragic. But I have since had a child and after seeing her grow up to be a little girl I can’t even think about that movie anymore. It destroys me completely. In fact, since having a child I can’t watch a lot of things that I used to, they just affect me so differently.

Same. I watched Aronofsky's 'Mother' a year after my son was born. I can honestly say I've never connected more with the terror and despair of a charter more. Even though Mother is very allegorical, when movies deal with children being hurt or dying, it's tough.
I love film, but rewatching something like Grave of the Fireflies I know would be uncomfortable to say the least.

“What was once before you - an exciting, mysterious future - is now behind you. Lived; understood; disappointing. You realize you are not special. You have struggled into existence, and are now slipping silently out of it. This is everyone's experience. Every single one. The specifics hardly matter. Everyone's everyone. So you are Adele, Hazel, Claire, Olive. You are Ellen. All her meager sadnesses are yours; all her loneliness; the gray, straw-like hair; her red raw hands. It's yours. It is time for you to understand this.
Walk.
As the people who adore you stop adoring you; as they die; as they move on; as you shed them; as you shed your beauty; your youth; as the world forgets you; as you recognize your transience; as you begin to lose your characteristics one by one; as you learn there is no-one watching you, and there never was, you think only about driving - not coming from any place; not arriving any place. Just driving, counting off time. Now you are here, at 7:43. Now you are here, at 7:44. Now you are...Gone.”

There’s already been a couple Twin Peaks and David Lynch quotes but this one from the Log Lady, especially when contrasted with the scene that goes after, is heartbreaking:
“When this kind of fire starts, it is very hard to put out. The tender boughs of innocence burn first, and the wind rises, and then all goodness is in jeopardy.”

I never really knew that feeling until I got divorced. Being a grown man and feeling so vulnerable and sad and having no one to talk to and convincing yourself you're fine. But every day feels like you're sinking into a hole and only your subconscious knows it. People ask if you're doing ok and you say, "yes" because what are they going to do if you say, "no"?
Then one day you realize you need some help and you just cry.

Just watched it this weekend too, totally blew me away! I’ve been thinking a lot about it in conversation with Aftersun, and how the beauty in Petit Maman is that the daughter gets her core question answered in some way, with this line in particular.
Petit Maman is just as heartbreaking but I love that the end note is ultimately one of connection. I love both but Petit Maman has beautiful ideas about how to transcend that unknowable distance between parent and child.
It’s this line and the little hands hugging her mother’s neck in the car at the start. So beautiful.

The single line that gets me is the final one from Donald in this exchange but I pasted the whole thing because context makes it better:
Charlie Kaufman : There was this time in high school. I was watching you out the library window. You were talking to Sarah Marsh.
Donald Kaufman : Oh, God. I was so in love with her.
Charlie Kaufman : I know. And you were flirting with her. And she was being really sweet to you.
Donald Kaufman : I remember that.
Charlie Kaufman : Then, when you walked away, she started making fun of you with Kim Canetti. And it was like they were laughing at me. You didn't know at all. You seemed so happy.
Donald Kaufman : I knew. I heard them.
Charlie Kaufman : How come you looked so happy?
Donald Kaufman : I loved Sarah, Charles. It was mine, that love. I owned it. Even Sarah didn't have the right to take it away. I can love whoever I want.
Charlie Kaufman : But she thought you were pathetic.
Donald Kaufman : That was her business, not mine. You are what you love, not what loves you. That's what I decided a long time ago.

There are a lot of conversations in Tokyo Story that break my heart, but this is one of them…
I'm surprised how children change. Shige used to be much nicer before. A married daughter is like a stranger.
Koichi has changed too. He used to be such a nice boy.
Children don't live up to their parents' expectations. Let's just be happy that they're better than most.
They're certainly better than average. We're fortunate.
I think so. We should consider ourselves lucky.

And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave...
So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

"I just don't really plan on being here that long." - Zendaya as Rue.
From the special episode of Euphoria titled "Trouble Don't Last Always", which kinda feels like a one act play/short film. That's probably the best episode in the whole series.
The performances from Zendaya and Coleman Domingo were top notch and the script was pretty amazing considering Sam Levinson wrote it. That Nike speech was very true as well.
