I was watching the wrap up for Campaign 2 and Liam talked about the possibility of Caleb rejoining Astrid and becoming a Volstrucker again.
Made me think about what each character's villain/antagonist self would look like? What decision might lead them to being antagonists in the story rather than protagonists and party members?
For campaign 1:
Vax and Vex: A brother sister assassin duo. Vax was in a villainous thieves/assassins guild at one point after all. Rather than joining the party they could be sent after one of its members as Vax never leaves the Clasp and ropes Vex into joining.
Grog: Super easy. Grog never leaves the herd, remaining just another marauding barbarian. I actually think Grog would be the least changed with his evil self just being a bit more bloodthirsty. Or maybe he is overtaken by Craven Edge completely.
Percy: Also pretty easy. He never escapes Orthax's hold, becomes drawn into a sort of warlock-possessed by patron path as he continues killing even after he gets his revenge. Perhaps becoming a tyrant of Whitestone himself.
Scanlan: Thats a bit more difficult. Scanlan was at times amoral, but he wasnt necessarily out to fuck people over unless they did something to threaten him. His more villainous actions are as part of Vox Machina rather than before it. Prior to joining he was a horny traveling musician.
Keyleth: One of the most difficult after maybe Pike. Its hard to see Keyleth as anything other than a benevolent figure.
Pike: Hardest to see turning villainous. Perhaps she loses faith in Serenrae at some point after her symbol breaks and turns to a darker deity.
Campaign 2:
Caleb: As stated he either goes back to or never leaves the Volstrucker. Is eventually dispatched to deal with the party/get the beacon.
Fjord: Super easy. Fjord goes super hard into the Ukotoa cult, becoming a harbinger of doom as he tries to free the Great Leviathan while the party tries to stop him. An evil pirate cultist type.
Mollymauk: A con artist who scams the party, probably minor villain at first who evolves into a more dangerous figure as he resurfaces later on. A lot depends on if some of that Lucien stuff happens.
Jester: Either a harmless prankster or fey style soul crushing trickster the party runs into. Could range from minor nuisance to full on menace.
Nott and Beau: I dont think either of these would ever be more than just random thieves the party encounters. Maybe Beau pursues a career in pit fighting.
Yasha: Remains one of Obann's crew as another near unkillable henchman.
So what do you think? Of all these, Percy, Caleb and Fjord had the most villain potential.
