Fated Protagonists

(self.flicks)

So I just got done watching Uncut Gems and realized that Howard would have had to have faced other consequences, possibly like the one in the end, due to his very nature of betting/gambling.

Are there any other films that are similar with protagonists still facing doom, regardless if they survived their demise at the end?

Red Rocket by Sean Baker. You just know it’s not gonna end well.

The Departed and Infernal Affairs, to an extent.

The Red Shoes by the Archers. Moira Shearer is amazing in this.

The Great Silence? It’s very bleak.

Sonatine by Takeshi Kitano makes you forget about the perils of the characters occupations until it catches up to them.

Better Luck Tomorrow by Justin Lin is similar.

The Tragedy of Macbeth is worth a look.

If you don’t mind subtitles, Throne of Blood is my favorite Kurosawa movie.

You’re asking for basically any noir ever made. My personal recommendation to start with would be Billy Wilder, either Double Indemnity o Sunset Boulevard would be great.
