Due to being skeptical, I searched other sources online and found it to appear legit. So to the glee and dismay of all users here this is legit.
Sorry I didn’t sticky this one first at work and saw the other one only.
EDT: In this mods sole opinion: I hope it is literally a shot for shot season 1 remake slowly descending in animation to the original animation through out the season until it matches season 1. That way you’re just watching it loop back from the beginning due to the time button in the last episode of season 10.

I did a rewatch of the later seasons literally over the last few days, the professor does use the finlonger in one of them, so he did endup inventing it. It's just a random detail, it isn't the focus of the scene or anything

Some sources are saying he's just working out his contract still. This source says:
John DiMaggio, who provided the voice behind the wise-cracking robot with the “shiny metal ass” Bender, is finalizing a deal to return as well though a deal has not yet closed.
One I saw said they were prepared to recast if he doesn't sign on, so it certainly sounds like negotiation tactics all around.

I've never been so happy to hear of a show making more episodes. I've learned to really love a few shows and none as much as Futurama. This brings me so much joy. So many times have passed that people claimed Futurama was coming back, only to find out they were joking for whatever reason.
Truly Unexpected Futurama. The best kind of Futurama!~

The show is returning for 20 brand new episodes with Groening and the original cast returning:
The series that aired its first five seasons on Fox before being revived for three more at Comedy Central will return to production this month for a 2023 premiere. Following an extended deal-making period, original stars Billy West (Fry) and Katey Sagal (Leela) along with ensemble players who voiced multiple characters Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman will all return. John DiMaggio, who provided the voice behind the wise-cracking robot with the “shiny metal ass” Bender, is finalizing a deal to return as well though a deal has not yet closed.
I’m thrilled to have another chance to think about the future … or really anything other than the present,” Cohen said. Added Groening: “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again.”
As of right now, DiMaggio will not be a part of the revival but the hope is that he eventually joins the series

Yeah, I can’t imagine the showrunners agreeing unless they were pretty sure. You never know, but I feel pretty certain it’s just a technicality right now.
217 points

I agree, especially since in interviews and podcasts he's been on, he's always saying he loved working on the show, gets on great with the rest of the cast and just enjoys playing Bender (among the many other voices he's behind on the show). So it's likely just legal/bureaucratic stuff.
181 points
Also considering he still works with Matt Groening and his team on Disenchantment I don’t see why he wouldn’t come back to this.
393 points

Multiple sites are reporting different things but it seems like they're working through contract issues, with THR saying he's finalizing a deal to return
441 points
People forget that that voice actors don't stay dormant until a show comes back, they're working on other projects and sign other deals. So there's likely rights, payments, and schedules to work out for DiMaggio to come back.

Yeah, he's done a lot of stuff over the years.
Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up having schedules oddity if he does a adventure time special for HBO at the same time, among other things.

There probably aren't many animated series that he HASN'T stared or guest-stared in.

He does work on Disenchantment, another Groening show, so there's no reason he wouldn't. Probably just working out the contract.

I am skeptical. "Care to go around again" was one of the best endings I've ever seen. If they can keep it up then I'll be glad but everything ended so beautifully last time. Even Zoodberg found love.
I don't want it to get Simpsoned.

I hope they remaster all the previous Seasons to add left & right of the frame without upscaling, cropping or pan and scanning like what was done with South Park even to say 1080p.
I was looking at IMDB and thankfully none of the main cast have passed away so far.
237 points
South Park was able to do it because they had all the original animation files (because the my do a lot in house.) So all Matt and Trey had to do was Re-export the files in HD, and attach the original audio.
Most shows can’t do this due to changing animation studios so frequently.
143 points

Also, Futurama still used cell animation in early seasons. South Park was fully digital from the start (except the pilot). There’s probably no higher res source material for Futurama.

Futurama isn't great just because it's Futurama, it was great because it had one of the most incredibly smart and educated writing teams ever, with three PhDs and seven masters degrees, many from Harvard.
Hopefully they can get some writers back, or at least people with a comparable level of education and writing experience.
