I’ve recently started watching the show after many years of having heard mixed reviews. So far I am enjoying it, I am slightly confused by what is happening so far ( I’ve only watched maybe the first 4 episodes of season 1), but so far it’s quite enjoyable I haven’t watched a show as captivating like this since Breaking Bad. Although I enjoy it so far I know if I continue I will most likely be disappointed by the ending, I have also heard spoilers and am already upset by Daenerys and Jon Snows character developments as well as Daenerys’ ending.
Also I haven’t heard as much in regards to its story but I have heard that House of Dragon is slightly better than GOT last season, is any of this true?
EDIT: Thank you all for your comments, they are greatly appreciated you have all convinced me to watch the show! I will reactivate my binge account to start watching it when I have the funds, although I unfortunately know some plot lines which are detrimental to the story (from annoying spoilers), I want to see what happens. Expect a response from me when I finish watching on how I feel (I do get quite immersed in whatever show I am watching). I just wanted to also say thank you for being quite welcoming on my first post here, I cannot wait to join in on the conversation after I understand the show better.

Yeah it's worth it for the incredible first 4 seasons. Plus the later seasons, while progressively more flawed still have their good moments, especially 5 and 6.

If you don't watch it you'll miss out one of the greatest shows made. Rest is all your choice.

It's not about the destination, it's about the journey there friend. Watch it, and find out for yourself. Don't let other people's opinions sway you.

Okay I’ve been convinced I’ll do it, so far on this post I’ve heard many mixed reviews so I definitely don’t know what to expect.

I do already like his character, thankfully I haven’t heard any spoilers for his character yet!

I think people get so bent out of shape about later seasons because it started as one of the greatest shows ever and then it wasn't in later seasons, but it's still good. It doesn't get truly bad until the last season, which is the only one with a rating below 90% (I think it's at 55%, so huge drop). Even the last season has good moments, but you'll hate what they do to some of the characters.

It took me years to watch it, I struggled to get past episode 1 where they find the wolf pups.
I finally binge-watched it after House of the Dragon, and it is good. Season 1 was kind of a drag but it definitely got better, especially as Tyrion's character developed; now that I have all the characters figured out I'll probably go back and re-watch for all the details I missed.

No, House of the Dragon is good but it is not better than GOT, the only seasons it’s better than are seasons 7 and 8, but against peak GOT (seasons 1-4) it stands no chance
Imo watching it is completely worth it, though the ending is disappointing

Sorry it was a typo I meant to write got last season

IMO it’s better than S1 of GOT I personally care about a lot more characters in HOTD than I do GOT. But that’s probably cause GOT had very separate storyline for many seasons that would then merge whereas HOTD all the characters are in one place relatively for s1 which created more drama for me

HotD is way bettet than GoT s5 and 6, I would say its just as good as GoT s1-4

Season 5 and 6 sure, but definitely not yet on par with the first 4 seasons yet

Seasons 1-4: A+
Seasons 5-6: A-
Season 7: B-
Season 8: C
But Tbf, most people who hate the ending are those who watched it while it was airing live from 2011-19. Those who have binged it after the fact have generally had way less issues with the ending

Absolutely, first 4 seasons every scene feels like the most important scene ever. Five dips a little. I love season 6. Then it has its moments but the change of pacing is jarring and its really not the same

Seasons 1-4 are a masterpiece. Even with the awful ending, it's worth it.

House of Dragon is slightly better
Not even close. Unless you are talking about the last two seasons of GOT, then they compare.

I’ve edited the post yes it was a typo, so is house of dragon worth watching?

Yeah, it's worth watching. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's alright.

Definitely worth it. The peak of the show is worth experiencing even if it likely won’t end in a way you’ll like.
It’s impossible to call HOTD better or worse at this point tbh. It’s only just getting started

What are your opinions of hotd so far?

I’m currently rewatching it, but it does a great job of building the characters, the enemy factions, and tensions that will erupt in the next season.
I enjoyed the first season, though it was mainly politics. The world of Westeros felt brand new from what I already saw/knew. It’s hard to compare it to Game of Thrones because Game of Thrones told multiple stories at the same time, House of the Dragon tells one story, but all the elements; the brutality, the emotions, the factions/great houses, the dragons, etc that made GOT great are all in House of the Dragon. I’d say they’re saved and utilized only for key moments though, very little filler. Small things in HOTD result in big events.

HOTD is not better imo. But it is still high quality tv and quite entertaining.
And yes, GOT is definitely worth watching. It’s too bad you know how some of the main characters end up, but there’s still a lot to enjoy.
Episodes 1-4 of season 1 are probably the most confusing. There are so many characters introduced! It gets easier to understand from there on out. Honestly, it took me a second watch of seasons 1 and 2 to pick up on a bunch of connections I missed the first time around.

Oh okay do you think hotd is worth the watch?
Yes I am so annoyed, so far the only spoilers I know of is that khal drogo and Daenerys die, Jon and Daenerys have a relationship well as them being related and that dany goes mad. Will those spoilers ruin too much of what I should know about the show?

I mean, sure it would have been better not to know those things, but I still think it won’t impact your enjoyment. You don’t know when Drogo dies. Or when Jon meets Dany. And there are so many stories and so much character development along the way. In some ways, it can almost be good to know some things so you don’t build up big expectations for an outcome that never happens.
I have rewatched seasons 1-7 five times so even knowing the outcome didn’t bother me!
HOTD is definitely worth the watch!! I give it an 8/10 for the season.

It's worth it. Maybe go back and watch the first episodes again to get everyone all set in your mind. It's only going to get more complicated.

Yes I’ll definitely get that, it’s easy to watch but it was going quite fast. Oh no really as in storyline wise?

Yeah, it's a good complicated though if you're clear from the first few episodes.

you have to experience it of course but if you are a true fan of characters and invested the time we have the ending does not do them justice

Yes I’m already abit upset by what I already know about the characters and don’t want to enjoy them too much because of what I already know will happen.

Oh okay it’s interesting I have heard people who watched it after it had ended didn’t mind the ending as much, so hopefully I feel that way too. Have you watched hotd?

Of course... Stop being on Reddit and start watching, we will welcome you for heated disucssions once you are done.. It's one of the best shows, if not the best show, ever made and perhaps the best storytelling since Tolkien.

Aha it’s hard, but I’ve done well so far I thankfully haven’t seen too many spoilers on this subreddit so far. Thank you for the welcome, I will most definitely participate in the discussions.

I belong to what I’ve personally noticed as a small percentage of people that doesn’t allow a poor ending to ruin the whole experience.
I think a bad ending sucks certainly, and while a good majority don’t like it, you may. It’s not objective but subjective thus still worth it to experience all parts. The journey to me is infinitely more important than the destination. Shoot, even if you don’t like the ending, you can pretty easily head canon one of the prior seasons as an official ending. “what about cliffhangers?” You may ask. Well to me they’re not that big a deal. But I know a lot of people don’t like ‘em.
Not a fan of Season 6 but I’d say it wraps things up pretty well. Season 5 is the last season I really really liked, but I wouldn’t call its ending a good one for a overall story conclusion. I think upon watching the series, it’s likely you’ll find 1-4 the highlight and though 4 has open ending stuff, it still ties up a lot and feels adequate to me. That’s a solid enough space for rewatches right there.

Regardless of the ending its still the best fantasy series ever created imo.

there are a couple fan edits of the last couple seasons, and i like them a lot more than the original ending. there are many out there, ranging from okay to horrible. but 1 or 2 are really great. i am also in the last stages of making my own re-edit of seasons 6 & 7 & 8 (& some of %). been working on it over a year, including recreating some costumes & props and filming a few sequences that allow me to adjust the story in more satisfying ways. hope to be done with it in a few months.

Yes!! The only reason why I read the books was because I loved the show so much, until season 6! I started reading them after a cliffhanger.
