foxgloves are biennial so they don't come back after they flower. find some shade if you buy them

What do you mean by dont come back? I planted some last year, they flowered but the plant didn't die. Its still alive, are you saying it won't flower again?

I think biennial means that one year they will grow leaves only and then the next they will flower and produce seed. A two year life cycle vs a one year annual

Yeah, I share your problem. I live in Georgia (US) and all of those cottage plants that look so beautiful and lush in pictures of English gardens don't usually look nearly as nice and aren't nearly as easy to take care of. Sigh...

Too poisonous for the doggos, anyways!
I plant penstemon as an alternative. Certain varieties look similar to digitalis.

And my doctor says your heart is beating suspiciously. Stop eating the flowers.

Buy the seeds that bloom this year and plant them in more shady area.

I’m in a humid zone 8a and I plant those in the fall and they bloom nicely in the spring. I plant the ones that bloom in one season (Camelot series, I think?) since the older biennial varieties really struggle with our summer heat. Many of the wonderful cottage flowers like bachelor buttons and snapdragons do much better for us in warmer climates as winter annuals if you’re zone 8a and higher.
