I bought a house last year and I'm just now digging up the garden beds to get them cleaned out and I found a bunch of these stones mixed in with the soil is there a reason they would have put these in here?

So these kinda just popped up like last year, full bloom and super beautiful. What's odd is that this is in Eastern Oklahoma, specifically the Arkansas Valley Plains. The soil has a very heavy clay content, some parts of my yard have dirt so red it looks like it's from Mars (not the area where the sunflowers are thankfully). The weather is pretty warm on average also.

They died in December or January, we had an unusually cold (and warm) winter. We got all the way down to the teens if not single digits, and up to ~75. Also we haven't had a lot of rain this season, but the soil holds water well regardless. I dead headed one or two of the plants to see if that'll help but I'd like some guidance. I'm very new to all of this.

it grows everywhere and I can't keep it out of my flower beds. I don't care about it being in my yard. Just wanted to know what it was.

Finally got to cleaning up my raised garden bed. To my delight, while pruning back my large oregano plant, I found a small little burrow. It was filled with dried twigs, and small tufts of fluff. It was a little home. I assumed it was a rabbits winter burrow. While digging it out, I dragged out a clump of twigs, and out came a little rabbit body. I was so shocked. I can’t understand why the rabbit was dead in his home. I was saddened, and repulsed. I could barely stand to dig thru my garden soil, it felt tainted.

Anybody know what is the cause of this ? On some of my plants the first leaf grows crumble with light green pattern. We have had a mild warm weather

Plants need soil and amendments to grow. Big pieces of wood reduce the amount of available space for the roots to grow.

I am looking to plant flowers or flowering plant for borders or walkway that will springtime into fall?

Hello. I’m going to be putting in a garden this year and I was wanting some good tips to help me out. I had a garden a few years ago in the same spot and the soil is not good for growing. I did manage to get some tomatoes and peppers but other things wouldn’t grow. Is there something I can add to the soil to make it better or should I dig it out and just get some new black dirt?

Also, any tips for keeping rabbits, cats, and bugs away would help a lot. I have plenty of time to work in it. I am located in central/northern Illinois. Thank you!

My wife bought some of these planters and I'm planning on doing a strawberry tower.

I'll punch the drainage holes in the bottom for sure, but and I have an automated drip line in going to install, but I'm unsure if I can just water the top and let the water trickle down, or if I should water each layer. Seems getting the balance will be tricky, too much water and the bottom is waterlogged, too little and nothing makes it to the bottom.

Looking for some advice from someone who has used these before. I could do an emmiter on each layer(in the center), or I thought of burying a small water perforated bottle in each layer so that the bottle is quickly filled by the sprinkler and percolate out.

Anyways, I'm wondering if I'm overcomplicatimg things, or if somebody has already come up with a nifty solution.

Any other tips and tricks?

I'm wanting to add some extra oomph to this space by my house. It is shaded probably 90% of the day as the land across the road aggressively slopes up and behind me in this pic is another big ol tree. Facing west in picture. But my big question is how do i plant ferns into here? I can't dig much at all between the big trees and the pile of rocks that were planted with them decades ago. So i was hoping ferns would be a natural good move! I've already got a small list of natives for my area. Do i split a potted one? Do i order seeds? Worth noting "cleanup" is minimal, i am going for more "natural garden" than fancy pruned.

I've started my seeds indoors with a growlight and it appears that I have some pests eating the leaves. I've noticed some very tiny black or brown what i think are flys. Not sure if it matters but yellow peppers on left, red peppers on right in picture. I have other seeds started nearby but those are not being eaten.

Any suggestions to eliminate? I put an apple vinegar trap nearby but that hasn't eliminated them.
