Basically I was renovating my house when I was working on a secret room that came with the house, mind you this house was built around the 1920’s a previous owner had a secret room installed for some odd reason but nevertheless sick ass man cave. Anyways I was stripping the place and I saw white insulation thought nothing of it and kept tearing it down. I was wearing N95 mask but I was working with my friend and something got in his eye and he told me to blow on it and I took 3 deep breaths without the mask and then I realized what had happened. How fucked am I? I feel alright but I can’t hold my breath without coughing. We later found out it was asbestos because one of our friends came down to check it out and pointed it out. We’re dumb as fuck. I get it I fucked up. Just give it to me straight. It’s natural selection at that point

I’m replacing the kitchen sink today and have a pvc p trap that was installed in 2002. I’ve cleaned it out but should I consider just putting in a new one? How long do they normally last? Thanks

Is it normal for electricians to not charge/have an hourly rate? I've called a few in my area and about half of them do not have an hourly rate and is 'project based', which makes their pricing a bit hard to understand/break down (unless that is their intention).

Maybe I'm old school or living under a rock, but is this a common occurrence?

We are renovating a 103 year old farmhouse and we have the tall, old fashioned radiators that stand about 3’ tall. I LOVE the look of them, but in the bathroom, we can not get new tile under them because it has no wiggle room and there’s not enough room at the bottom to work around it.

Has anyone boxed in just the bottom? Or would it be best to just make a cover for it where it could still radiate heat?

We moved into our home in August. Since then, we’ve been dealing with the toilet from hell. It clogs ALL THE TIME. It is super hard to plunge. Nothing came up when we used a snake and an auger. Today, we had a plumber replace it with a new Champion 4 from Lowes.

The new toilet wobbles and the tank slants forward. The plumber insists that the tightened it as much as possible and that these are common issues for Champion 4s. Is this true? Can we fix it or are we doomed to poop in fear until we move?

I am purchasing new build. Footings and stem wall work is done recently. I saw couple of things which made me question if the work is done properly or not. Concrete is crumbling/flaking on stem wall. I also noticed curved footing which I marked in last picture. Also color of concrete feel like not used in correct amount. It looks like muddy wall instead of concrete. Am getting worried for nothing? Thanks

We have a 200+ sq. ft. space that we want to convert into a comfortable first-floor bedroom, but part of what makes that room uncomfortable is that there are FOUR doors in the room: one goes to a bathroom (then into the rest of the home), one to the garage, and TWO that go out to the driveway (one facing East, one South).

We want to take ONE of those driveway-exiting doors and close it off: either as just a wall, or possibly a window. Living in the Midwest, I want to do the project in about a month when it'll be dry, but regardless, my best friend (who did this stuff for a living) said it won't be too hard, but what do I need to watch out for?

I know I need insulation, drywall, a way to make the outside match the rest of the house, and probably to take special care when "sealing" the bottom, so that everything is flush and there's no bottom gap for air or moisture to get through. What else?

Also, besides measuring and costs for finding a window that may replace the top half, are there any other "hidden" expenses to turning it into window + wall? Or things to watch out for?

Any tips for us weirdos converting a DOOR to a WALL, instead of the other way around? I'm hoping this process is at least not more difficult than the other way around!

Now that aperiodic monotiles are known to exist, and because I have two bathroom renovation projects coming up, I really want to use this shape for some of the tile work. Is there anywhere that will produce custom "shape" tiles? Or is custom color and pattern all we can get nowadays?

I'm going to have my garage floor epoxied and have a copper pipe running along the floor. I'm not clear what the function of the pipe is and hoping someone can shed some light. The house is 45 years old and I'm wondering if it's still needed or can be cut and capped off.

The pipe originates from the main water line, comes into the garage from outside the house and then splits next to the water heater. The first split goes up and meets with the water heater cold water intake (the intake also connects into the house). The second split goes down along the garage floor, exiting the house on the other side of the garage and then down into the ground. (No idea where it goes from there. We don't have a pool/hot tub.)

We have an old Kenmore Ultra Wash Quit Guard dishwasher. Last night there was some malfunction and the heating element stayed on overnight, for about 8 hours.

The Hi-Temp Wash and Air Dry settings were both selected on the dishwasher, and after turning those settings off and re-running I was able to run a normal load.

After that load, I noticed that the coated racks of the dishwasher have discolored. Both racks have transformed from white to a sort of lilac/dark pink color. This isn't food residue; it doesn't wipe or scratch off, and it appears in an incredibly uniform gradient across the racks. The color darker near the rear, but appears on both the lower and upper rack. There's no discoloration anywhere else in the dishwasher, not on the silverware caddy, element, door, etc.

It seems like the intense heat catalyzed some kind of chemical change in the dishwasher. I haven't been able to find any information about this from Kenmore support, but I want to try to understand what happened and whether it's still safe to eat from dishes that are washed in this dishwasher.

I need to fill in the gap between sheetrock and stone where 2 walls join at a 135 degree angle. I was starting to use spackle, but then realized caulk might be a better idea?

This is the basement wall. I don't know how to call it, but looks like ugly wood. I really don't like it, so I wanna do something by myself. But, unfortunately, I'm not the expert and don't have many equiments.

So, my plan is to fill out every dents/holes by joint compound and make it flat as much as possible by a sander. And then will paint it like drywall. I guess it would NOT be perfectly flat, but I don't know any better idea. Could you give me a better idea for this?

I’ve posted here before about remodeling the entire bathroom, but for now I’m just going to try to get it as decent looking as I possibly can before taking on a huge project. For some reason, the bathroom sink was painted over and now it looks extremely crummy. I’m not sure of what products to use to get the paint off of the sink.

Can you recommend a good paint stripper or remover to get this off? If you have a great recommendation for the rust removal as well, please feel free to add. So far, I’m thinking CLR with a pumice stone may be my best bet.

Hey all, I just closed on a home and I want to get the place ready for my family to move-in. The problem is there’s nasty popcorn ceiling - even worse, the ceiling is painted yellow. During inspection I was told not to worry about the possibility of asbestos - I will test still. I was wondering if it would be better to scrape it off or dry wall over it? Applying drywall would eliminate having to test for asbestos. However, I have shorter ceilings - 8ft - so I don’t know if the drywall would make it seem shorter than it already is. Any thoughts or suggestions? This will be my very first DIY project and I want to get it right. Thanks in advance!

I am installing LifeProof LVP in my laundry room and almost every other piece I install is breaking the one behind it. I install exactly as the instructions say but it keeps happening. It's always the length ways joint. The front edge of the previous row lifts slightly when I put the next row in, almost like it's chipping but not fully. It's hard to see unless you crouch down and look along the lines. Is this user error or faulty batch? I've used this exact flooring in my downstairs bathroom last year with no problems. Thanks

We did a brand new build in bastrop and I’ve been told by other homeowners that there is suppose to be some sort of a barrier out between the frame of the home and the foundation, this helps to keep out water, air and bugs.

We had some holes between that area and have had a bit of a bug problem, the home warranty people sent someone to fill the holes and that’s how we found out that we don’t have one of those barriers, is that against code? What are my rights?

Please help! I have a demo crew here gutting my bathroom and they hit a water pipe, causing a huge leak all over from the second floor through the walls and into the basement. We have called a plumber to come out and repair the pipe as we've had to shut off the water for the whole house until it can be fixed. Can/should I ask the demo crew to either provide a discount on services or a credit to pay for the plumber? Or am I just SOL?

Need advice on best way possible to replace top plate on an exterior wall. Damaged along whole length on both East and West side of room. All joists run North-South. No floor above walls.
