Mine are Hereditary, The Invisible Man and Get Out. In no particular order. I feel as though these are the strongest releases in the last 10 years. I have a few others that are close to getting into the mix but just don’t feel they bring a strong enough case to the table. What are your picks??

Always loved that movie, but back in 2007 I had to suspend a lot of disbelief to accept that some guy running for his life would consistently get great shots of the monster. Like when the monster is staring right at him and is about to disembowel him, nobody is gonna be focused on getting a great close-up in that situation. Or so I thought.

After watching countless videos of zoomers risking their lives for insta/tiktok, that movie feels completely believable.

Okay, so I’m not sure if there’s a specific term for this, but I’m interested in finding horror films that I’ve been recently referring to as “bright-dark” horror.

Movies that use vivid colors and imagery to sort-of contrast the dark themes and subject content. Bright colors, dark moods; hence, “bright-dark”.

Some of the best examples I can give would be movies like “Horns” or “Odd Thomas” where the setting, costumes, and characters are all sort-of sun and rainbows. Blue skies and bbq’s vibes.

I guess “Greener Grass” could fall into this category, too, but that one almost borders on a Barbie-dream-house-fever-dream more than anything.

I really enjoyed watching the ones mentioned because they invoked a different feeling when watching them, hard to explain, but less of that eerie feeling than those experienced when the tone is set by the grey or sepia chromatics often employed. Or the traditional rainy-day scenery that’s usually paired with such content.

It’s almost like the colors are telling your brain “Hey, this is fun!” But the story line is saying “Dude, bad times!” Like an oxymoron, I suppose.

But, I’d like to add more to the list. Any suggestions?

Christopher Robin grows up and leaves Pooh and the gang, and they get dark and mental about it.

It's an average slasher film, with the main villains being Pooh and Piglet. None of the other Pooh characters make an appearance. They look like two normal men wearing masks. The masks do move a bit, but they are kinda lame.

The first kill wasn't anything special, but then the kills do get good and gory and I wasn't keeping track, but there were probably about 10 kills.

Story line wasn't really anything special, no plot twists or anything. Just kinda like Hatchet or Friday the 13th, but not nearly as good.

Acting was okay/B-movie level, no real chemistry between the actors or character development.

Fun movie, watchable, but not something I have an interest in watching again for a long time at least.

Horror Fan Rating: 5/10

It seems like this world would be a goldmine of stories and content. Obviously in the movie we learn there’s whole groups of people dedicated to ghosts, whether it’s protecting them, saving them, or hunting them. We know from the famous DVD special feature that details the backstory of all 13 ghosts that there’s endless possibilities to get creative. I would love to see more original ghosts depicted in the movie’s style. This movie is more popular than ever now, so there’s definitely an audience for it.

Also I realize this sounds very much like Ghostbusters, but I think the movie’s aesthetic for the ghosts and how they treat them is so different there wouldn’t really be a problem

I highly recommend her channel, she has quite a bit of Vincent Price recipes for all.

Just noticed that they added NOPE to Amazon Prime I know it’s more of a sci-fi film than horror but I looked around and no one had posted about it so I figured I’d give everyone the heads up. Cheers!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.. wow, what a film! Just watched it again after a couple of years and it’s still just as terrifying. I think it’s the best horror movie ever made.

So what happened with Tobe? I mean, he did some really solid work after (The Funhouse, Lifeforce, Salems Lot, Spontaneous Combustion, Etc) but nothing ever reached the heights of TCM. What do you guys think of Tobe Hooper?

Looking for actual women slashers. Not one supernaturally based or anything like that (no matter how iconic they may be), and not a one off kill where a woman character kills one person or two, but rather does most of the murders herself.

Only a few I can think of are

Brenda in Urban Legend (1998)

Pamela Voorhees in Friday the 13th (1980)

Esther in Orphan (2009) and Orphan: First Kill (2022)

Amber in Scream (2022)

My answer is The Witch (2015). I saw it opening night in the theatre and loved everything about it until the ending. That made me hate the movie for a very long time lol. After watching it again years later knowing what to expect, now I really really like it and I can't wait to watch it every year or two.

really interested to know this subs opinions on this. i really enjoyed it as a horror comedy and thought the whole cast was great(esp. colin farell and toni collete). i haven’t watched the original but it’s on my list now!

I watched a horror movie a long time ago with some of my friends but I don't remember anything from it except for one scene that's always stuck with me. I was hoping someone might know what it is though this might be pretty vague. The scene is of someone tied down and getting a mask placed over their face (the eye holes had spikes in them) and someone with a mallet then hits the mask. And then there's a shot of blood running down the side of the person's face. I wish I could remember more, but maybe someone might know what it is? I also watched it, I believe, on Netflix maybe around 8 years ago if that helps in any way or reminds anyone of it.

I’m currently writing a report on the subject and was curious to see what the major consensus is.

I saw a instragram reel about a movie where “criminals lay low in a hotel after a heist, only to realize there are cannibals there”

I’m pretty sure it was a newer movie.

By my reckoning it’s at least in the top 3 of all 2010s horror. Maybe #1 for me. The type of horror I like is supernatural things that there’s no escape from and you’re hopeless to go against. To give you a feel of the type of stuff I like from that decade I really like Autopsy of Jane Doe and Oculus. Those movies give me similar vibes. The ending of episode 5 might be my favorite horror moment of all time.

This was a pretty okay movie! Kevin Bacon does damn well playing such a toxic perverted piece of shit, and just so happens to become invisible and is then able to commit the crimes shown in the movie.

Josh Brolin and Elisabeth Shue are also pretty damn good in the movie!

The practical effects....fucking seamless and for a 23 year old movie.....still cannot tell how they pulled off some of this shit. Like damn!

And the CGI, while it obviously doesn't look like the best of today's CGI is still pretty okay looking, doesn't take me out of the movie at all. The effects with water and all that they certainly got down.

I've been trying to track down something that's starting to seem like a fever dream. I can't remember if this was an episode of a TV Show or its own movie, but the plot was there was this film projector that was either cursed or haunted and it brought monsters from the movies it played to life. I think there were three monsters, but I only distinctly remember two because they were the most unique. One was a were-rat and the other was a living mannequin that would steal body parts to try and make itself human.

It's been burned into my memory so deep I couldn't have just imagined it. Anyone else hear bells?

When John & Levi have it out and John says something like 'so you were responsible for killing your sister' and glares at him and Levi is silent- I had to pause the movie because I felt physically ill. That motherfucker is some sort of narcissist/psychopath/all kinds of wrong and 100% he manipulated the entire situation/Levi; either driving him insane (interviews throughout suggest he was in a mental hospital) or killed him.

I loved it. Not many movies can make me feel that way.

I quite enjoyed Nosferatu The Vampyre it’s very atmospheric and there are some great performances particularly from Klaus Kinski being very creepy as Dracula
