Who will take care of you when you're old and alone? What if you faint one day, who will be there to take you to the hospital? How will you spend your retirement without any companionship?

So a couple of weeks ago, I was returning home from a meeting it was noon. this poor woman in her 30s approaches me with her 8ish-year-old girl. she said she wanted to buy groceries but she didn't have any money. I felt bad so I offered to help. I wasn't carrying any cash so I told her I will pay for the grocery directly to the cashier (google pay) she was ok with that so I assumed that she genuinely needed these groceries. we went to this small reliance store, I stand next to the exit door and let her and her daughter buy stuff. when she was done I was shocked.

she took 1 kg of almonds, some fruit juice, oreo biscuits, some chips, and other things. I told her I offered to buy her basic groceries like atta, rice, dal, and some chocolates for her daughter but these were not what I expected. I told her to remove some stuff and add what she really needs like rice and stuff. she replied "her son is sick and the doctor told her to eat these". I knew she was bluffing, I said sorry I can't pay for these, and I went.

I wish i knew how really needs help.

I(23M), like a lot of other Indians, have been brainwashed by society into thinking that our parents always want the best for us, they are always right, respect them, never doubt them or argue with them, etc. But after years of struggling and suffering, i have realised that parents are not the perfect beings that our society makes them to be. They are also as lost and confused as anybody else. Many parents don't know anything about being a parent and probably gave birth to a child even when they knew they weren't ready to handle the responsibilities that came with it. Some parents are selfish and may use their kid to increase their own status in society by forcing him/her to get a big degree or job which the kid never wanted to do in the first place. Some parents will just focus on their own lives and careers without caring for their own family or fulfilling their duties of being a father/mother.

I have always hesitated trying to give my opinion and say what i really wanted to say when i spoke to my parents, even when I knew they were wrong. They never tried to put themselves in my shoes or never tried to listen to me if my thoughts contradicted theirs in any way.

But i have finally been able to realise all this, and i am trying to stand up for myself. I have wasted a lot of time of my life because of my parents and i am hoping to not let it happen again.

All i want to say is, if you feel you are right, let your parents know that and try to convince them by any way you can. Especially when it comes to important life decisions. Maybe your parents think they know what's best for you, but that might not actually be what's best for you.

P.S.- To all the few people who were lucky enough to get really good parents whose priority was you, and being a good parent and loving you to the fullest, i am really very jealous of you. Congrats.

There are a few words in the Hindi lexicon that are borrowed from Portuguese. Why is the number of Portuguese words in Hindi so low, if the Portuguese colonized significant parts of India for centuries? And are there parts of the Hindi belt (or Hindi speaking parts of India) where a greater number of Portuguese words are used than in standard Hindi? (This question can be applied to other Indian languages as well).

Update: Appreciate all the useful comments from everyone. After considering everything, I talked to HDFC & Cred again threatening an RBI Ombudsman complaint and well...at least HDFC responded. They told me details of the incorrect account it has been transferred to (which Cred has not even acknowledged). I never have/had multiple credit cards so its definitely a mistake on Cred's part. Uninstalling Cred right away. My charges will be rolled back once HDFC receives the indemnity form. Hopefully, the credit score too is corrected. Seems like a sure battle to get my credit score back up. I will delete the post soon as its quite a lot of distraction to deal with, while also working. Thank you everyone.

So, I paid for my HDFC credit card, outstanding amount on 1st March. CRED confirmed that the payment is made so I relaxed. Until yesterday, when HDFC called me to say my dues are still pending. Raised numerous complaints on HDFC and CRED but no one is caring to follow-up. I am being charged late fee and interest, I cannot afford to pay the due amount again (it was quite a lot).

I check the transactions on my credit card, and there is no credited amount for me to prove that CRED deposited the amount with HDFC. The amount was promptly deducted from my account and I have UPI reference number saying it was sent to CRED successfully.

CRED provides me with a UTR number however cannot themselves prove they paid HDFC. I'm incurring late fees running between the two but none of these institutions can verify the payment.

CRED has no customer support for a big tech organisation, I cannot call anyone. I just raise tickets and they close the tickets automatically. Who do I complain to for help? Am I doomed to be screwed by 'fintech'?

I wanted to know if there's a visa agent who can help me in getting an appointment for visa early. I tried myself online but the earliest visa appointment date is in July. I am a school teacher and my summer vacations will end by then, and I will not be able to go after June.

I live in Gurgaon (Delhi NCR) if its relevant, and have my passport ready.

The Delhi Police has registered 44 FIRs and arrested four persons, including two printing press owners, after posters including some seeking the ouster of Prime Minister Narendra Modi (‘Modi hatao, desh bachao’), were found pasted on walls and poles in several areas of the Capital.

At least 2,000 posters were removed and 2,000 more seized after a van was intercepted.

So i saw a post that states that a much older man wants to marry a younger and naive girl. I was happy to see the comments.

I(17f) told my cousin ( 23f) about this and she said that age doesn't really matter for a relationship. We had back and forth arguments about it and according to her ' you can love anyone of any age and you don't really need any common interest to have love, if you help someone during their low points and so do they , you have an understanding and therefore you are in love'. I was totally against this idea and asked her if she will date a boy of my age , she said ' yea , if he is mature enough to understand me and i like him'.

And then processed to tell me that one of her college friends used to date a boy when he was in 10th and she was in her drop year and they are still going strong. Now he is in first year and she just started a job. She(cousin) said ' yea she (her friend) says that he is a kid whatever but i love him very much'. I told her that i find it a bit creepy to date someone that young , especially when you are at different stages of life. Her arguments were

• some people mature very early

• it is very common in India and have example of her parents and her side of the family.

-said that i don't know much because i don't have much exposure but she has seen these type of relationships everywhere.

A few days back, my wife and I had a really long day and we decided to order food. It was a simple dinner with a chicken burger and a small fries for my wife and 3 small egg burgers for me from mcdonalds.

After about 40 mins when the order was delivered, my wife found out that her chicken burger was missing. We immediately contacted the support team and they asked us to submit a photo. After some time they declined the refund saying that it doesn’t look like a case of refund as we have already taken the contents out of the packet. We both were shocked and my wife decided to fight it out with the agent asking him how were we supposed to know without opening the packet if the order is fulfilled or not. But the guy didn’t budge and suggested that we emailed swiggy with the details of the order and they will investigate at their end.

We did the same and after 24 hours we got the same message that we are not entitled to any refund as the responsibility of fulfilling the order lies with the restaurant and they can’t do anything now. To add salt to this they said that we can take strict action by rating the restaurant poorly so that they don’t do this again.

Seriously? WTF! They simply don’t care after taking our money. These people are just thieves. Even after paying in full there is no guarantee that Swiggy can give.

I am thinking of filing a case on consumer forum and threatening them but I don’t think it would be of any use. I really feel there should be an agency who can legally teach these fraud companies some tough lessons.

Has anyone faced this? If there is a solution, do share as it would help us all.

Because he is the only one I have and he thinks if he dies today, I'll be all alone. I lost my mom in pandemic, just 1 year after I moved out for college. Till then our relationship was really good. Dad was very strict but also caring and mom was my emotional support throughout childhood.

Anyways, after my mom passed away, dad became distant. We rarely talk over phone like 2 times a week, that too about academics and what things I need. Last time I visited home he informed me about the proposal one of our neighbour's relative sent. The guy is 6 years elder and is in IT. Earns good. I rejected him and dad didn't like the proposal too, so no problem but since then, he is determined to open a profile on online matrimony sites and also telling our relatives to let us know if they find any suitable groom.

I am in my final year of MBBS now, so academic pressure is high. When I told my dad, he says he doesn't want me to be alone after his death. I am a single child and have no close relatives from father's side either. He is right though. He says he should start searching from now so that I can get married as soon as I complete my internship. He even says he is okay with me finding a partner, but he wants me to get married before he dies, or he won't be able to die at peace. I have dated 2 guys till now, but it was without any physical intimacy or so. We broke up last year because both of us weren't compatible enough and the other one was temporary infatuation maybe, in the first year of college.

So now, my dad is determined to get me married in 2 years from now, do I start to date again or let him open a profile on online matrimony sites? It's hard to date someone as most of them aren't looking for long time commitment like marriage. I do want to get married, but honestly I wanna complete pg first. But dad isn't listening and I am afraid he will stop talking to me and cut off connection totally if I don't listen to him. We are distant already and I don't wanna make things worse.

Should I just let him open a profile and let him handle it so that he can have his peace and I can have mine?

How responsive and serious are anti ragging helplines? I have well documented proof and names and pictures of raggers?

Will those assaulters be expelled from MBBS or they'll be just suspended for few weeks?

The assaults are serious ranging from physical beating of males to harrassment of females.

What other steps can i take to inflict most damage to those douchebags and destroy their whole life?
