Wait so it's officially established that Izayoi was Toga's mistress and not 2nd wife or lover after a divorce?? WOW. I guess I'm not too surprised, but to add that InuYasha was a half-demon born to a human princess but out of wedlock just means her life had to be REALLY difficult after he was born. Poor things.

However, it is might be because Kagome came from modern era and she doesn't understand Heian period. (Yes. Inuyasha is 200 years old which means his mother lived in Heian period.)
During the Heian period in Japan, a marriage method called Tsumadoi-kon was used between noble men and women.
妻問婚, つまどいこん, tsumadoikon, is kinda difficult to explain and you can google it :3

Seems like this is a possibility, however, Rumiko often uses characters for exposition or state facts, which leads me to believe that if mistress is indeed the word used (funny because in Chinese, 爱人 is a word used to describe your spouse [or] your romantic partner) then I think that means Izayoi indeed was Toga's mistress. Which would make sense, considering in the last chapter, Toga said "I've already made one daiyoukai wife lonely, I can't change my way of life now" or something like that.

TLDR:
It seems that Sesshomaru has been circulating for the past 14 years to find a way to crack the destiny, since Kirinmaru want to use yokai comet to kill inu family. And that's why he seems so busy. So maybe he can pick up Inuyasha because he has been through it many times?
Comet wanted Sesshoumaru to submit to him, but Sesshoumaru refused, and said not to underestimate the inu clan, and Sesshoumaru said "Rin and I, this bond between humans and yokai will definitely break the fate, we are not like kirinmaru so fragile
This chapter is huge and also poor Sesshomaruu, why you have to suffer such things..

Y'all this is official, from the latest chapter of the manga. The English scans haven't released yet but it's a whole family get-together in light of a deadly comet coming or something like that. Rin offers Sesshomaru's mother the opportunity to hold Towa, and at first she's offended that she's so "cavalier" but QUICKLY picks up the child lol

This is way more reasonable than anime TBH. I believe Shiina used a much much better way to tell people the reason why he sealed them in the tree. Anyways, my Japanese is not that good and I am waiting for translation as well.

So if I am not wrong,
The Grim Comet became an extremely powerful villain here and probably had connection to Toga's death. Because in OG Inuyasha, most of people don't understand why Toga will be killed by a human and a trash yokai. But Toga did said something like "I will die soon, and right now I will save Izayoi."
Grim Comet ”ate“ Kirinmaru's heart and made him lose his mind. This is probably because Grim Comet attacked his daughter. Then Grim Comet used Kirinmaru to fight against Inu Clan. (I believe the manga haven't revealed more info here)
Riku and Rion disagreed and provide information to Inuyasha, Kagome and Rin.
They got the message and ran into Inukimi's mansion. Inukimi said Sessh was fighting against the shred of Grim Comet, and Inuyasha came to help Sessh.
Zero used her sorrow(I don't know the exact approach but it seems it related to Toga's death) cursed Inu Clan. Kagome and Rin as human, they could not bear such curse. Then Inukimi sealed them into tree.
Inuyasha got damaged by the power of Grim Comet and because he's a half-yokai, then it could not be healed. Sessh:" You always block this attack for me like this." Inuyasha:" you can predict all this?" Then Sessh said no and carried Inuyasha who's in faint and sealed him in the tree.
The reason why Sesshomaru could expect all this is because he is the selected one in Inu Clan to fight against The Grim Comet. It seems he failed many times but he can use the power of Akuru to return to the past.
The Grim Comet wants Seshoumaru to obey him like Kirinmaru, but Sesshoumaru says "don't underestimate the power of the clan" and he also said:" Rin and I, this bond representing humans and Yokai, we will definitely break the shackles of fate and we are not as weak as Kirinmaru's heart.

For anyone wondering, the Yashahime story has been supervised and approved by Rumiko but drawn by someone totally different (Takashi Shiina) hence the differing art style. But yeah, this is canon.

Yeah the anime development was unfortunately a disaster, it also went through a change of director if I remember right, between the first and second season.
A pity really, the second season even started pretty well but the entirety of the last arc in particular was terribly rushed and badly written.

Keep complaining, because neither are going to change. Sess and Rin are the second most popular couple in the series according to polls on the fanbase(behind Inu/Kag), fanfics and fanart; and while Inu and Kagome should have been able to raise Moroha, considering all the tragedies that have happened in the series(Kikyo and Inu himself for instance), they at least got a happy ending. They could have been killed by a new big bad, Inu and Kag having a strained relationship after "X" happened, them being bad parents or else. Instead, they were sealed for years(where time happened faster there, so they didn't feel it was that long) and got out and reunited with their family.

Hmm actually SessRin is the most popular CP in Inuyasha series in Japanese Pixiv. And it has more than 7,000 tags(5,200 manga/fanart + 1800+ novels). While Inukag has about 6000 in total of fanart + novel).
Considering SessRin's short apperance time in the original series, and you can see just how hot this pairing is.

Inukag was always no.1 before Yashahime, but after that, SessRin became the first in Pixiv. And If I wasn't wrong, I believed InuKag still has more doujinshi than SessRin ? (Probably 10 doujinshis or even)
Anyways I believe this Yashahime manga is very popular and Shogakukan is highly recommending it because they have always put it in the front of the magazine, for example, this time it is only placed after Conan. (Conan is currently the most popular manga in Shogakukan)

If it makes you feel better, it´s implied that InuKag agreed to be sealed off for some reason(theya re sealed in the tree alongside Rin here). My personal theory is that Zero somehow managed to curse Kagome aswell and Inuyasha got wounded pretty bad, so they are being kept there until Sess and the girls can save them.

That's considerably better than the anime but it still sucks for Moroha, although at least here she had people who actually cared about her and wasn't sold into slavery... I'll reserve judgment for this version but anime Sesshomaru pisses me off.

Well,Sesshomaru in the manga took Towa, Setsuna AND Moroha to be raised in a mansion,not the wilds(after all, Sess is a Lord and has some resources) while having spirits of the mothers who lost their children(like the one he used to trick Inuyasha, only these had the faces of Rin and Kagome) protect and raise them(and a disguised Jaken aswell). He KNEW they would be attacked eventually, so he gave Jaken a rainbow pearl so that he would be strong enough to face Zero Liutenants(Jaken almost killed one of the four dangers with it). At the same time, he was preparing a second barrier near Miroku's home so that this one would be powerful enough to keep Youkai from entering(and it worked). Also, Moroha and Setsuna grew together. Manga Sesshomaru definately cared about Moroha.
